The waiter was in way over his head--couldn't get orders straight, couldn't explain the wines, and offered tequila shots to a group of businessmen that were there for businss as if they were 18 years old.... Called to ask to increase reservation count from 8 to 10; was told they were extremely booked but would accommodate--when we arrived, there was only one other table taken in the whole place!
Very nice spot for business meals where you are not right on top of the table next to you.
I wanted to like this place. I went 2 times and there will not be a third. Service was nice but slow. Food was undercooked. Not an ideal place to eat if you are in a hurry. Came for lunch and needed to rush out. Needs to be 1 hour in and out.
Opportunity to meet up for lunch in a great place where you can also talk. Friendly, great service and tasty food makes this place a great choice.!
Service was exceptionally great! My waiter Malik was awesome and attentive to my needs.
The ambience was wonderful and the decor is very nice. Will definitely be travelling back to there.
Ordered Dover Sole and was disappointed in the preparation and accompanying sauces.
Excellent service, wonderful ambiance, and delicious food. The servers were very attentive and catered to all of our needs, despite it being quite a large group. Everyone was very impressed with the service and very happy with their meals.
The food was really good, but...when we arrived on a Friday night we were the third table, we were a party of two and there were two other tables of four in various processes of their meals (in other words, we were not all sat at once). Anyway, the waitress did not deliver our food nor did she remover our plates, but we still had to wave her down to refill our waters and waited for our tab. When she refilled our waters our food had already arrived, we were 2/3rd through our meal yet she didn't ask if our meals were satisfying, or anything.
By the time we left, she still only had four tables. I have been a waitress so I know how it all works. There were not enough tables for us to have to wait as long as we did and not get checked up on unless we waved her down. When we were leaving, my husband had to go search for her to get a new pen that worked, and found her at the bar chatting with the bar tender.
Engaged there 25 years ago.. returned. Very nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really enjoyed my meal. We went during happy hour specials and the lite bites were excellent. Our food was cooked perfect and was amazing. But we also smelled our neighbors food and that smelled amazing too! I definitely want to go back! It was quiet when we were there, basically a one-woman show, but she was amazing! Her service was excellent from getting our drinks to a perfectly timed meal!
Chilean Sea Bass was very good. The service was great. My only bad news is the desserts are terrible. I tried the cheesecake & Crème brûlée .
At first I was nervous because the place was dead at 8pm on a Saturday, but the food was excellent and our waiter Eddie was fantastic. I will definitely return
Wasn't expecting an office building restaurant. Wouldn't have came. Difficult to get to, average food and poor service. Looked like a weird hotel restaurant
Older location was a much better spot for a dinner. This was first time I dined at their new location and we were the only party in the entire restaurant on a Tuesday night. Seemed a bit strange...My guests were a bit skeptical about eating at a seafood restaurant with no one in it...Service was just okay. Food was excellent. I was told they have a great lunch crowd and would probably return for a lunch but not for dinner.
Service is super slow but food is good. I dined there twice in the last two weeks and service was lacking both time. Will not be going back...
Apart from the many reasons for liking the restaurant in my checklist recommendations, I would add convenient location inside Chicago's Merchandise Mart.
Birthday lunch with a friend. Server was great, but service was slow. Sea Bass was delicious, but was swimming in too much sauce. Shrimp Diablo was also delish but also had too much sauce. Used my $50 ValuedMember voucher so wasn't too disappointed.
Delicious, reasonably priced prefixed meal options
Nice casual vibe but the seafood is always very good. And it plenty of options for those who don't want seafood. The chocolate cake desert is huge, share it.
A great find as I walked through the Merchandise Mall. Lunch Fixe-Prix was perfect.
Good food, good service and overall a nice place for a sit down lunch at the Mart. I enjoyed my nicoise salad - and the rest of the guests were equally happy with their meals.
The interior is a bit cold, but its comfortable.....
Food was not flavorful or interesting. The seafood and vegetables were fresh and served nicely, but for an expensive meal, this was really disappointing. Service was very good. It's an odd location in the back of the Merchandise Mart building, with absolutely nothing else going on around it on a Saturday night.
WOW, where to start. Most of all being the only people in the restaurant (when we got there and when we left) was depressing. Given the fact that the dining room is as boring as hotel conference room, being the only people in the place made it even worse. Soup was served before our appetizers were served, wine was spoiled (albeit they were very accommodating about replacing with another bottle), seafood was good but not special, and the famous molten cake must have gotten caught in a glacier because nothing was flowing out of this day-old hardened brownie.
Maybe they draw a lunch crowd, but for dinner, I wouldn't recommend it.
My boyfriend and I came here for Valentine's Day and we loved it. Everything we had was delicious, and our server was wonderful. We both had the shrimp and lobster rositto.. One word.. Amazing! Would definitely recommend this place for a nice romantic evening without the crowd of people.
This was the best restaurant week meal by far! Great food, great service, great portions! I will DEFINITELY return!
Nice ambience. I had the blue crab and brie tilapia and my wife had the lobster and shrimp risotto, both dishes were excellently made, and the quality of the food was outstanding! I would definitely come back here to eat and recommend it to anyone in the mood for seafood.
Service and food
Five of us had dinner at Nick's in memory of another friend who had recently passed away. We were seated in a quiet area of the restaurant and treated like royalty. Our waiter was the absolute best. He was attentive without hovering, helped us with menu choices, kept our wine glasses full, and generally made the meal a true treat. Our food was outstanding. We spent three hours over dinner and never once felt rushed. It was an absolutely perfect evening.
Have been in Chicago on business for a couple of months now and this is the best meal we have had. Fantastic food and great bartender.
Went for restaurant week. Ordered the calamari, fish and chips, and pecan crusted salmon. Service was good. Food was good but nothing outstanding, probably wouldn't go back.
Always perfection! My favorite place to bring clients and friends!!
This is our yearly ritual for restaurant week. The shrimp and lobster risotto is the best. Please try the key lime tart...
Myself and two friends went to Nick's for a workday respite, and the lunch was great (VERY tender tilapia, which was wonderful!). It was also not too packed, which was great!
There did appear to be a seemingly inexplicable delay in getting our food out. I wasn't checking too ardently, but it appeared as though other tables were getting their food before us, but it wasn't indicated that any of our orders were especially time-consuming to prepare. The wait staff was very apologetic, checking in often and reassuring us that the food was on its way, and the drinks were comp'ed, so I will just chalk it up to a fluke that was out of their control.
Since it meant more time away from the office, I wasn't too worked up over the delay. However, on a day where I had a meeting to get back to, I might not have been so forgiving. Maybe wouldn't recommend for a tight lunch.
Went to Nick's for lunch in the Merchandise Mart. The service was very good and the food was very good. It was not crowded. However the service was great and the cost was not unreasonable. I think we all chose Salmon from a prix fixe menu from restaurant week, It was very good. I would recommend for a lunch- casual or business. Have never been there for dinner.
my 3 guests didn't know about it and were thrilled with the quality of their meals
When I pay $40.00 to $50.00 for and entrée I do not need the meat thrown on a plate full of mashed potatoes! They did give us one desert when we brought it up. Not the same as the old Nick's
We waited until the last minute to make dinner reservations for after a matinee show of The Lion King. Nick's was a short walk from the theater district, and it was great! Not crowded, and the food was tasty. There is no children's menu, but both kids found something they really liked (chicken piccata and vodka pasta, which they made not spicy). Good experience!
I've always had good luck here, but not this time. The service was very slow, and when I ordered filet medallions medium, they came very well done. Hoping this was just an anomaly because this visit was very disappointing.
I prefer the original location, ambiance, and menu options.
I'm surprised this place is still open. It's time for an overall. Need to try a little harder.
