Striving to convert humble ingredients into remarkable dishes, Niche in Saint Louis, MO is dedicated to the use of locally grown ingredients to create a unique spin on snacks and dinner options.
The menu at Niche reflects its innovative concept and is divided into snacks such as Norland potato beignets served with miso aioli or the special cheese bread served with charcuterie and pickles. Dinners can include the appealing four course option or the impressive chef's tasting menu. The innovative approach to meals at Niche is even reflected in the desserts, with seasonal choices like rhubarb served with yogurt sweetened with maple and hyssop or the sassafras with maple and strawberry.
Food was fine, but not a fan of the limited menu on Monday nights.
The food was very good, small portions but too expensive for what we received. Great service and staff was very friendly and accommodating . Great place for a special occasion however it was my husbands birthday and we usually receive a complimentary dessert when we have gone to other restaurants .
Wonderful value and refinement of entrees for Sunday/Monday night dinners.
We also love to come here for special occasions; birthdays, New Years Eve, etc.
Thanks for the quality!
ps..we also frequent TASTE and BRASSERIE.
Went for one of their Sunday night suppers and couldn't have been more pleased with the experience.
My first time back to Niche after the move from Sidney St. Nothing less than greatness from the recent James Beard Award-winning chef. We all indulged in the 10-course tasting menu and every course was excellent! My favorite was the roasted pork with grits and ice cream! A very odd combination, but suprisingly delicious! The service was excellent as well. I'm disappointed I am unable to remember our server's name, but she was impeccable. So very friendly and accommodating, and eager to describe the details of every course.
Highly recommend this restaurant in STL! Easily in the top 3 best in the city, if not #1, in my opinion.
The food was outstanding. Each bite was a new exploration in the complexity of the overall flavors.
Well served. Well explained and adapted for food allergies. A delight to eat.
The only issue was the cost - over $400 for a party of four. So maybe once a year??!!!
The Sunday Suppers at Niche are really lovely. The menu is limited but so are the prices -- and they call you in advance to make sure you know what to expect. Every dish is artfully prepared to excite all your tastebuds. And the ambiance is warm and intimate -- like a Sunday supper with family & friends. We had a lovely evening.
Niche is an amazing place to dine. My husband and I each had the four course dinner and also an appetizer. It was a little over $200 for the two of us but luckily we had a gift certificate.
I think my husband's dishes were slightly better than mine - he had a beautiful soup with a merengue, rib-eye steak, and decadent pork belly. I liked my trout and asparagus, too, though. The best thing about Niche is how the chefs surprise you by mixing textures and tastes in an unexpected way. The food is a work of art there.
Truly an exceptional experience from the start. I had the nine-course tasting menu, and each course was a treat. Service was exceptional. The facility will soon be undergoing a makeover, but the ambiance isn't what you're there for anyway. I live in Atlanta, but I would make a trip to St. Louis *just* to eat here. It's seriously that good.
Loved the food. Did the 4 courses. Portions were small but overall very filling and tasted out of this world. Restaurant is loud as it shares its space with another restaurant. Overall it is worth the money and a great experience!
I was surprised. Read the Menu on line and was not impressed (sparse explanation of dishes). Plus I dined at Niche several years ago at its old location and thought it was a good dining establishment, but not exceptional. Shared these thoughts with Jennifer our server. Jennifer immediately gave us a complete and detailed explanation of the menu - she definitely got our attention. Jennifer also gave us excellent suggestions for wine pairings. Now for the food. We did the 8 course menu. The sizes were just right so that we didn't feel bloated. The "Smoked Mushroom Tea" prepared the pallet for what was to come. The "Egg" was to die for - custard and faux caviar all encased in a 1/2 egg shell. A world class appetizer. The rest of the tasting menu continued to tantalize the pallet. Hats off to the Chef, the Kitchen and Jennifer for making this a memorable dinning experience. Where do I rate Niche? I put it at joint number 1 in St Louis. For classic continental dining I go with "Tony's". For exciting and creative food along the lines of Alinea in Chicago, Niche is a must do.
Our first time at Niche for the special Sunday/Monday night three course dinner....
Just really amazing everything from ambience to the food itself. Service great! Menu great!
Atmosphere Great!! Definitely going back again!
Niche was really fantastic. It was everything I had hoped for. The food was STELLAR, the service was fantastic, and the space is pretty great. Having heard about Niche for years, I finally made it down there, and it did not disappoint. Unlike a couple of other high-end restaurants in St. Louis, I would not hesitate dining at Niche again.
Very limited selections on Sunday and Monday; pick another day. The wine pairings for each course were exceptional.
No much else to say. Start to finish, it was perfect. Sara welcomed us like family, cocktails at the bar were delicious, Jordan was our server; he was outstanding. If we lived in Missouri, we would be there A LOT! Put this gem on your "not to miss" list. You will not be disappointed.
We arrived on time and were promptly greeted and seated for our special occasion.
The “Four Courses for 70” seemed to be the choice for both of us.
1st - Potato Soup was delish
2nd - Pork Shoulder was scrumptious.
3rd - Slagel Farms Ribeye was awesome… 2 nice pieces.
4th - Baetje Farms Cheese was very good.
This dinner event took over 2 hours. The service was very very good and so was the food. I had 2 mixed drinks and my wife had 2 glasses of wine. 268.00 including tip. Overall it was a great dinner and a great night. Niche resides in a simple open room that almost resembles a cafe diner. The busy kitchen is in full view.
I WAS full when we departed. Unfortunately, we will not be returning in the near future because the cost was beyond prohibitive. We regularly go to the top STL restaurants for about 100.00 less. Regardless, Niche was a great experience!!
Interesting note – Niche shares their bathrooms with the Pastaria next store which they also own.
$70 fixed price 4 coarse meal. Kitchen not up to level of complexity they were trying to achieve. Room plain. Service ok. St. Louis is not a town for foodies.
We enjoyed the full tasting menu last week - with wine pairings. Every course was creatively plated and tasted amazing. We thought the first wine pairing should have come out earlier - I think we had 2-3 items before the drinks began, however, once the cocktail and wine began, they paired perfectly with the food and were generous. The service was paced well and attentive. Would definitely recommend!
Wonderful food. Though the trout was not our favorite ... Some of the best tasting, best presented and best served food in St. Louis!
Service and food were simply exceptional.
We went to niche a bit apprehensive. Our experience there could not have been better! We really enjoyed the food (except dessert, sorry but beets do not cut it) and the service was impeccable. We will go back.
Love this place, and I highly recommend this place for couples.
Third time here and this was the first time we were not impressed. Entrees were cold and server offered for us to take them home and warm up to have later. The place wasn't super busy. Flavors were flat. Nothing impressive. Has gone downhill since our last visit three years ago.
We had a great meal at Niche. Niche was ranked as one of the best in St. Louis and I have to agree! The food and the service was excellent. We enjoyed the 4 course meal plus some appetizers. It was over the top, except for the 4th course (our least favorite). There were 6 of us and everyone raved about their dishes. Cannot wait to return!
My husband and I recently had dinner at Niche to celebrate his birthday. It was absolutely wonderful from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. Our server, Jessica, was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. The food was absolutely delicious. We did the full tasting menu and were not disappointed. Each dish was carefully executed and brought out at the perfect time. Jessica was incredibly helpful when it came to wine suggestions. I would recommend Niche to anyone and everyone who wants a delicious dinner in a quiet, romantic atmosphere.
We had not dined at Niche since it relocated to Clayton...why did we wait so long? The food was a fabulous experience and the service was impeccable. Not some place we would dine weekly, but it will move to the top of the list for special occasions.
My 18-year-old son and I had a conversation not long ago about what makes a good chef...I decided to show him. Gerard Craft won James Beard Best Chef-Midwest last year, so I knew Niche would be a great example. And...I knew the food would be outstanding. It was. Sunday night short menu, brick chicken and rainbow trout. We ordered one of each. Both were perfectly prepared and unbelievably delicious! What we didn't know was that the service and the ambience and the timing and the staff...all also outstanding. When you put it all together, the best evening I've had in a long time. And my son somehow got the idea that having his phone out in a nice restaurant is bad manners, so...that was kind of awesome, too.
Wife and I love good food and are willing to pay for it on special occasions. Some restaurants are different just for the sake of being different, some you can tell there is thought - Niche is the latter. Great service, great food, great experience. We'll be back
We have dined at Niche many time and written glowing reviews regarding this restaurant. Unfortunately, on this occasion the event was not as glowing. The food, which is the primary reason for dining at a restaurant like Niche was, as always truly excellent. However, the service was definitely off. We felt as if we were forgotten several times during the meal. The two and a half hour time for dinner tends to underscore my point. Of course a dinner at Niche develops and moves at a certain pace which is neither hurried nor rushed. However, when the diner becomes impatient due to lack of attention there is a problem with the service.
Add to the disappoint the wine. I attempted to order two different bottles of wine listed on the wine menu only to be told that they were not available. At that point I retreated to ordering the wine pairing at $65.00 per person. One, several of the wines served did not pair well with the course. Two, the quality of the wine served did not justify the cost.
Will we return to Niche? Absolutely! It remains our favorite restaurant. Will we choose the wine pairing in the future? No. I will work through the wine menu or simply choose a cocktail instead.
It sounds ridiculous but I must say this was the best food I've eaten. It is the best restaurant I've ever dined in, and I've been all over! The prep, service and menu were astonishing. No detail was overlooked. It is worth every penny.
