What Insiders Are Saying
Nice Matin is an upscale French spot with lunch, brunch and dinner.
Unfortunately, Nice Matin has declined considerably over the last two years. I ordered a plain hamburger, medium rare; it arrived close to well done, with only the slightest hint of pink. The profiteroles were heavy and the ice cream filling and chocolate sauce not very flavorful.
A good comparison is the other neighborhood bistro, Cafe Luxembourg, which after 40 years in operation can still deliver a hamburger perfectly cooked to order and light profiteroles with excellent ice cream and a rich chocolate sauce.
We always enjoy eating here & we had a delicious dinner & great service!
This is a terrific place. A very friendly, polished, professional team treated us very well. One great wine list, too. Great menu. Prix Fixe is excellent. Great people watching, too.
We returned to Nice Matin because of the quality of the food, the lovely decor, and excellent service. In addition, there is an excellent wine list as well as a wonderful selection of beers!!! Being a couple who have always loved all things French, it was our way of celebrating Independence Day!!!
Been to nice matin many times and it is a,ways a good, enjoyable meal
Lovely take-me-away-from-NYC cafe. Doors open onto a very busy Amsterdam Avenue make for a pretty hefty noise level. Interesting menu for lunch. Attentive service.
Had Brunch with guests. Service was slow and disjointed. Drink was made improperly,Our guest had to go to bar to request a new one since server was non existent. Salad Nicose made with canned tuna. One entree comped because it was not prepared per the menu.
Overall poor experience for the price.
Excellent food and nice, quiet location by myself at a small window table.
Good food, good service
Prices are up there but the food is really good! Outside dining had temporary scaffolding over it which is a bummer. I love the romantic ambiance inside but my only problem, the chairs are not very comfortable. Tables have mixed booth and chair seating, booth is more comfy.
Excellent service, delicious food and nice wine list!
I have been dining at this restaurant for at least 10 years. I was appalled to discover that they are now charging extra for what used to be complimentary bread at the beginning of the meal. When we got our bill, I discovered that they charged $9 for a bottle of Pelligrino. The entree was well-prepared, but you need to know that I will not be returning to your restaurant because of your greed. Unfortunate.
Service and food always good.
Would not recommend based on recent visit - brunch was okay not outstanding.....server was wonderful but since the place was extremely busy could not keep up with any "additional" requests such as extra dressing for salad, ketchup, etc. However, would try again.
AlwYs delightful! Nicely prepared and presented dishes. Informal. Attentive friendly servers.
We went there for brunch. Food was very solid & service was excellent. We weren't rushed. Wonderful experience.
They No longer offer the Pre-Theatre Dinner however its still offered on their website. The price of wine by the glass is pricey and the pour is smallish.
Always reliable. Good food, great wine list, friendly service and the buzz of the upper west side...
Great for dinner on the UWS. Fantastic wine list. Professional service; sommelier went out of his way and topped of the experience. Prix Fixe is worth it. Chef came out and worked the room. Crowd was a mix of locals and business dinner groups for the most part. We keep visiting during bad weather and have been told and can see that is is usually open air with floor to ceiling windows open and a breezier, street level vibe.
The bartender was great. Amazing drinks, great personality. Our waitress was wonderful and efficient. Dinner was delicious.
We were in NYC from out of town for our anniversary and this was our celebratory dinner of the trip. Nice Matin just plain knocked it out of the park. The food was exceptional and, honestly, probably a little under-priced for its quality. Every single staff member we interacted with was warm and welcoming and went out of their way for us. We would return here in a heartbeat
Food was very good. Service was very slow and somewhat inattentive.
I love coming to Nice Matin for many occasions—for drinks outside with friends, for dinner with family—and Nice Matin never disappoints. The servers are very attentive and the food is consistently delicious. I appreciate the theater pre fixe menu that allows us to enjoy an appetizer and entree for under $30 per person—pairing that with one of their tempting signature cocktails (my faves are the St. Tropez and the Monaco!) makes the meal complete. I recommend this place for a meal for two to eight—they are kind to bigger groups—or for a refreshing drink at the bar. Such a fun place to people watch too, especially when the large doors are open!
This is a quintessential NYC restaurant. The food is good, the ambiance is great, and
you will be treated with respect. It's not 21 ... but close enough.
Arriving before our reservation, we were seated outside at our request and then forgotten until we asked for a menu and a drink order. Once we were acknowledged things got better. The food was above average ( appy ramp tortellini and entree crispy skin salmon is recommended) and the service improved dramatically. The pre theater price fix menu fit our needs perfectly before seeing Seinfeld at the Beacon. I would go again.
Bright and beautiful, but slow on this particular visit.
Overpriced for small portions and smug environment. Staff pleasant enough and food certainly adequate but a bit of a scene so overall not that special. They don’t even offer bread on the table. Works for the neighborhood given absence of stiff competition. Tight squeeze for table settings.
Really good brunch selections!
Nice Matin is wonderful. The food is prepared with great care and attention to detail, and the staff are all very gracious and professional. It's an underrated Upper West Side gem.
Lovely as always and the windows were open onto the patio so it was so beautiful!
We stay at The Lucerne and enjoy having our breakfast at Nice Matin. We also enjoy dinner there too.
Nice room, albeit very noisy. No need for music. I've eaten there many times.
Maybe someone didn’t show up, maybe someone quit, whatever it was the last time we ate here the service was awful. I don’t simply mean inattentive and slow, but also reluctant, unresponsive and surly. ‘‘Tis is not typical, but management should take note.
Food always good but never excellent. We go for the ambiance, beautiful restaurant and a "vacation" from the hectic city.
Too loud. Lost my voice after one hour and a half.
Returning from a matinee with dark clouds threatening we were very glad we had reserved a table at our Hotel Restaurant. Surprisingly the bartender was familiar with a French 75 cocktail (Soixante Quinze ). It was most enjoyable. Crispy skin Salmon and Lobster Forte were expertly prepared. Who could resist a Calvados for dessert - not us. For an authentic French dinner any time of year, this is the place to go!
Arrived early but was seated promptly. Table spacing was excellent. Conversations stay private. Menu was a great mix between traditional and inventive. Really enjoyed taking my upper West side friends out to dinner in their neighborhood and leaving them impressed. We were able to enjoy after dinner espresso and mousse and wine without being rushed. 5 stars all around with attentive yet unobtrusive staff. Not expensive!
Always enjoy this restaurant. We always have friendly service and an excellent meal at a reasonable price. Mussels were delicious and so was the salmon.
I was very disappointed in my dining experience. We had eaten here before but it was before I had dietary restrictions. I had a very difficult time since the food was all marinated ahead of time and since I don't eat beef my choices were very limited. My husband enjoyed his dinner.
