About Nice Matin
"Nice Matin, named after the largest daily newspaper in the South of France, gives the Upper West Side a splash of Provençal sunshine and a heady introduction to the cuisine of Nice, home of the pissaladière, pan bagnat and, if we are to believe the menu, a whopping big burger topped with comté cheese, smeared with aioli and served with a heap of rosemary-flecked fries. It's the best thing to happen to a hamburger since Daniel Boulud worked foie gras and short ribs into an all-beef patty. The pleasure is all on the plate, and it carries right through to the desserts.", William Grimes - NY Times.

Nice Matin Ratings and Reviews
Not that inspiring overall. Food was generally good but menu wasn't that inspiring and seating was a bit cramped for four. It took a good 15 mins before we were offered menus or wait staff came to our table after we were seated. I'd go back for lunch but probably not dinner.
We are a group of five friends who, for the last 15 years, exchange holiday gifts at select restaurants that can accommodate the demands of our many packages, our friendly energy and dining demands without disturbing others' dining experience.
Everything was perfect. We were given special treatment and never felt rushed. Our server was attentive and the sommelier Megan addressed our wine requests. The Branzino was delicious and the short rib ravioli sauce was pleasantly different and so delicious.
Thank you! Looking forward to a return visit. Nice Matin is a truly fine restaurant.
It is such a pleasure to give this restaurant a Great Review. ! Everything from the welcoming greeting at the front door to a nice table to a great waiter and great food was perfect ! I live nearly and so many restaurants on the upper west side are disappointing . This is the best !!!!!
Always a West Side 'go to' restaurant. The food is consistently good and the service is attentive. We have noticed lately that the wine pours are a bit 'light' which I believe is a new policy.
Regardless, one can't beat the location, pleasant decor and consistency in a sea of UWS restaurants that come and go quickly.
This was our third New Year's Eve at Nice Matin. As before, the menu, the food and the service were outstanding. From salads to main courses to desserts the ingredients were fresh and blended artfully and deliciously. The diverse wine selection by the glass was fine.
This is the best managed restaurant from top to bottom that I know.
We dined at Nice Matin on NYE with our friends who were visiting from out of town. We had the most enjoyable meal. The food was delicious and the service was terrific. We were not rushed and yet we were well taken care of. Kyle the sommelier made an excellent wine recommendation to pair with our food . We always enjoy dining at Nice Matin and loved dining there on NYE!
Service has gone down at Nice Matin. When the 4 of us arrived for our 11:30 reservation, were told on arrival that the booth we asked for was available. Then we were switched to another table. Got booth after complaining. Friend’s side greens didn’t come on the fritata plate as menu described. Had to ask for it. My Omelette was raw and had to be returned. Asked for bread three times before we got it. Asked for a cappuccino and got a latte.
Nice dinner on a chilly night. Nice Matin was warm and welcoming. Greeted upon arrival and taken to our table quickly. Cocktail and wine list well rounded with comfortable pricing. Prix fixe 3 course dinner at $42.00 kind of a bargain! Salmon chicken and lamb were all well prepared. Salad starters huge. Dessert offerings especially gateau chocolate delicious! Would recommend.
The noise level is always a problem. My request for a table at the front honored and my daughter and I were able to converse! The food was delicious. As it was later than normal dinner time for us, we had small plate selection, with the beet and chèvre (?) to share. Fabulous. It is a go to spot for single bowl of soup on the way to do errands or meeting a friend or family member for EARLY supper.
We enjoyed our dinner with excellent service, cleanliness and attentive wine serving. Great selection of properly priced wine and wonderful bread. Some of the dishes were terrific like mussels and fries but the chicken dishes (both Tuscan and Paillard) were lacking and not up to the rest of the menu. We would have liked to see pate, charcuterie, coq au vins and casoulet. The mushroom and the onion tarts were okay but not terrific.
As always good food and service. And , this time our waiter went the extra mile. We were celebrating my wife’s birthday with our son and 5 and a half old grandson. Without asking our waiter said here is the child’s menu and I’ll put his order in first. A wonderful celebratory dinner for all.
Dine occasionally at Nice Matin. Quality has varied over the years. Last meal was outstanding. I had excellent lamb chops, my wife the Chicken paillard which is her favorite. Wine list is First class. Restaurant seems to be on the up and up. Will return soon
I was very disappointed with my lunch. I started with Duck Liver Mouse Pate. It came out ice cold. As it began to warm, the consistency was "granular" as if it had been frozen and thawed and frozen several times. I sent it back. My main arrived, ravioli, which was slightly cold and stuck together - plated and sat under a warmer. Staff was somewhat indifferent but said they'd tell the chef. Can't say I'll return any time soon.
Good food, well-prepared, menu full of lots of choices. Gets crowded early so noise level makes easy conversation challenging unless you are luck enough to snatch a table on the sides of the room; many tables of 2 are very close together. Service is fair. We had a lovely waitress but her heavy accent made her input somewhat unintelligible.
All of the food was well prepared and the service was excellent. This restaurant remains one of my favorites for New York City. It's got a very pleasant ambiance, the menu is varied, and the prices are not over the top. It's a large space and you don't feel crowded as you do in many of the other restaurants in the area.
Nice Matin is my Upper West Side standby, and it never disappoints. Its menu is inventive and changes regularly, the staff is friendly and accomplished, the atmosphere is relaxing and beautiful. It's one of my favorite spots and I'm so glad that after so long, it's still here.
This French restaurant is truly a gem on Manhattan's Upper West Side. Excellent service, tables NOT on top of each other, nice menu, wonderful food, and an outstanding Prix Fixe lunch option. The mussels were delicious and the portion was generous. The soup of the day - creamed cauliflower -was excellent, not weighed down by cream. What I liked best however was how comfortable the restaurant is, unlike my image of a French restaurant. So perfect for the West Side!
