About Nice Matin
"Nice Matin, named after the largest daily newspaper in the South of France, gives the Upper West Side a splash of Provençal sunshine and a heady introduction to the cuisine of Nice, home of the pissaladière, pan bagnat and, if we are to believe the menu, a whopping big burger topped with comté cheese, smeared with aioli and served with a heap of rosemary-flecked fries. It's the best thing to happen to a hamburger since Daniel Boulud worked foie gras and short ribs into an all-beef patty. The pleasure is all on the plate, and it carries right through to the desserts.", William Grimes - NY Times.

Nice Matin Ratings and Reviews
I have enjoyed this restaurant a few times over the years, as it is not near my area of town. This time the meal was truly exceptional. Both the food (potato crusted branzino and the cod with arugula) and cocktails were really fantastic! I will definitely return soon.
From the staff to the food, everything about the experience of dining at Nice Matin was outstanding. We chose Nice Matin based on their restaurant week menu choices. We were not disappointed. The Parmesan crusted lamb chops were cooked perfectly. The sole Veronique was wonderful. The apple tart and Meyer lemon tart were a perfect ending to the meal. We will d3finitely go back.
Excellent service with quality food at reasonable prices (for NYC). Perfect amount of time between bread/drinks/starters/main course. Had passed Nice Matin hundreds of times in the last few years and this was the first time I went in - already looking foward to the second.
Nice Matin does not disappoint. First of all, the hostesses are careful to give you the type of table you want, in my case, quiet. Secondly, the food is dependable, especially the fish dishes, which are nicely cooked. I tried their "Italian salad" as an appetizer for the first time and it was very good. This was part of a nice prix fixe menu. The sommelier gave good advice about a Gaillac red wine. Because it was a cold Monday evening, the restaurant was quieter than usual, which suited us to a T. Great neighborhood asset.
Food was great. Everything we ordered was flavorful and fresh. There were some deliciously creative options and also the good old faves like steak frites which I always love.
Service was amazing, super attentive. We had show tickets and they made sure we were on schedule without being rushed. Very knowledgeable wait staff.
Now on to the most surprising part of the meal. The wine list and Sommelier! If you are a wine lover, and let’s face it, most of us are, then a visit here is in order just for the experience of the Sommelier visiting your table. So knowledgeable and friendly. But don’t let the fancy word scare you away! The price list on the , oh 2500 bottles I think he said, runs the gamut. You can enjoy affordable and recommended wines or go for a special occasion splurge. I’m sorry I forgot his name but either way he will make you feel like royalty no matter what you order and guide you to the perfect choice.
Next time we in the area we will be back.
Honestly, this was a bad experience. Our reservation was at 7. At 7:15 they tried to seat three of us at a table for two. We said we would wait for a table that we could fit at comfortably. The manager said that they always use those tables for three, but I noticed that any three they tried to put there also refused. Both tables of that size ended up being used for twos. When I mentioned it to the hostess she said that it usually works if one of the three is a child. We didn't get seated until after 8. We didn't get a drink for another 20 minutes. We had to wait another 20 minutes for bread even though we asked for it twice. All three of our hamburgers that we ordered medium well came out rare. I have to say this was a bad night. The manager never came over to apologize for anything. It was just bad all around.
The restaurant week menu was disappointing. We asked for the rack of lamb to be medium rare. It was practically raw. We had to send it back. Also, each individual chop (3) was covered with bread crumbs. Gave us the impression that it was industrially prepared and purchased by the restaurant for restaurant week and just heated. It did not seem to be prepared by the kitchen.
It was OK - just OK. It was Restaurant Week in NYC and the 3 of us each ordered from that menu and we had a total of 4 drinks. The food was OK; the Scotch (neat) seemed like a short pour, and the total bill (including tip) was about $250. We had a wonderful waiter initially; very knowledgeable and very personable. Toward the end of the meal, though, - about 10:00 P.M.- it was hard to find a waiter to order dessert and give us our bill. So, again, just OK.
Not that inspiring overall. Food was generally good but menu wasn't that inspiring and seating was a bit cramped for four. It took a good 15 mins before we were offered menus or wait staff came to our table after we were seated. I'd go back for lunch but probably not dinner.
We are a group of five friends who, for the last 15 years, exchange holiday gifts at select restaurants that can accommodate the demands of our many packages, our friendly energy and dining demands without disturbing others' dining experience.
Everything was perfect. We were given special treatment and never felt rushed. Our server was attentive and the sommelier Megan addressed our wine requests. The Branzino was delicious and the short rib ravioli sauce was pleasantly different and so delicious.
Thank you! Looking forward to a return visit. Nice Matin is a truly fine restaurant.
It is such a pleasure to give this restaurant a Great Review. ! Everything from the welcoming greeting at the front door to a nice table to a great waiter and great food was perfect ! I live nearly and so many restaurants on the upper west side are disappointing . This is the best !!!!!
Always a West Side 'go to' restaurant. The food is consistently good and the service is attentive. We have noticed lately that the wine pours are a bit 'light' which I believe is a new policy.
Regardless, one can't beat the location, pleasant decor and consistency in a sea of UWS restaurants that come and go quickly.
This was our third New Year's Eve at Nice Matin. As before, the menu, the food and the service were outstanding. From salads to main courses to desserts the ingredients were fresh and blended artfully and deliciously. The diverse wine selection by the glass was fine.
This is the best managed restaurant from top to bottom that I know.
We dined at Nice Matin on NYE with our friends who were visiting from out of town. We had the most enjoyable meal. The food was delicious and the service was terrific. We were not rushed and yet we were well taken care of. Kyle the sommelier made an excellent wine recommendation to pair with our food . We always enjoy dining at Nice Matin and loved dining there on NYE!
