What Insiders Are Saying
Nice Matin is an upscale French spot with lunch, brunch and dinner.
a little tired and disappointing my wife and I got our go to dishes both weren't up to standard
Excellent food, excellent service, and very kid friendly!
Food was good and cute ambiance. Expansive menu but was disappointed with customer service
Male server gave the impression that he was too busy to provide even basic service. Ordering was not a welcoming experience. He said it was busy and he wanted to take the order before bringing the tea. Food was very good at breakfast. Both of us had scrambled eggs, croissants, and a bowl of fresh fruit with yogurt and granola. Water for tea was not hot enough to even steep the tea, though, and at $6 for one tea bag, that was disappointing. Perhaps the tea wasn’t hot because it was sitting on a tray while the order was being processed. Didn’t see server again until the check arrived, when he was only slightly more personable. Other staff (female server and busboy)picked up his slack and made up for his inattention and absent courtesy. I had used the same restaurant for room service the previous night, which was why I dined in the restaurant this morning. The dinner order of salmon, risotto, and chocolate cake were excellent, the tea water was hot, and I didn’t have to deal with being dismissed by a server. If you’re staying at the Lucerne Hotel, I’m not sure the 15% discount for breakfast is worth dining in the restaurant around 9:30. Order in, and you’ll have a delightful experience.
We were there for breakfast, arriving just before the big crowd hit on a Saturday morning. The eggs were really good. Oddly, they were out of butter for toast, but we managed with a small amount. And, hey, the coffee kept coming - all I can really ask for!
The food was not daring but the quality was good and it was well-prepared. The place was packed so it was obvious that the quality of the food was consistent. Unfortunately, this made the space a bit loud, but not intolerably so. The service was very good. All in all, it was a very good dining experience.
Excellent food, especially helpful as I have to eat gluten free. Noise level was insanely loud ... making conversation difficult.
everything was great — our seating, our food choices, etc. We felt like our waitress was 3/4’s paying attention to us, but our interactions w/her were pleasant. It’s just that the place is sooo noisy, despite how big the place is and the high height of the ceilings. The food was very good, and tho expensive, not off the charts.
The wine program is really special. The Thursday evening meal of the day Short Rib Bourguignon is spectacular and the sommelier has special cellar selections by the glass that match perfectly. I had a well aged Pomerol that was a perfect accompaniment. The atmosphere is like you are in the 1963 Cary Grant film “Charade” -very special and French!.
Enjoyed a Delightfully long and delicious birthday lunch with my friend. We Each loved our entrées and the cookie plate for dessert was excellent! Service was attentive without being intrusive - Nice Matin never disappoints!
Nice dinner as usual. We ordered the $28 pre-theatre dinner and both had the salmon. I really liked the faro that came with it.
We’ve been there a good many times over the years (we come from Denmark) - sometimes for a drink or two, sometimes for dinner.
This time it was dinner and like always we had fine food and wine. We’ll be back.
We ate outdoors and the waiter was very attentive. Food was solid and quick which we needed because we were dining before a show.
Having been here since it opened, the food is good. Service was a little disappointing. When seated, a menu should be brought to the table. One shouldn’t have to get up to look for a menu and a waiter or waitress. Wine by the glass is expensive with a not very generous pour. It is still enjoyable and will continue to come to the restaurant but will have a mixed drink instead.
I did not like the chicken in my chicken paillard.... slow service eas sporadic to the point where we chose not to stay for coffee... I did however think the ramp tortelloni was fabulous.. its s
A beautiful restaurant that doesn't live up to iys potential..
Always a great choice. Great small plates and salads, and excellent bistro fare. Tables are well spaced for conversation.
This visit was the first visit where my entree, Sole Veronique, disappointed. First it had no grapes and second it had no flavor at. A companion stated his pasta with lobster but the lobster did not seem fresh. I had a wonderful dessert of Bread Pudding with sweet potato, chopped pecans and butterscotch ice cream. We have eaten here many times because it’s always been good. This time hopefully was the exception.
I was disappointed with our table being next to the door, especially since each time the door was opened, I was uncomfortable due to the cold. Also, I was disappointed by the frittata which was bland. Lastly, we never received the bread basket.
First time dining and love it! Amazing service from hostess, server, bartender and back server. Wine list is outstanding as well as the selection for food. Comfy ambiance. Will return ! Merci.
Excellent attentive service. Overall food was outstanding. The burrata was served on bread with a delicious sauce. Bass with baby corn also perfectly cooked.
The bland escargot was only the disappointment.
I love the food and service
Very fine experience.. like the wines
The service is excellent and the wait staff knowledgeable, professional, helpful and pleasant. We had the prix fixe escargot and mussels and both were abundant and the best we ever had. Looking forward to returning real soon.
This place never disappoints. The food is very good (I had the hangar steak on a bed if spinach, duck liver mousse to start), and reasonably priced (the $42 prix fixe is a bargain). Great service, very helpful sommelier, atmospheric room. The place can get very loud if an annoying group of celebrants is whooping it up (some families can be the worst, with it without children, but some adult business diners can be just as disruptive with their hilarity), as there is no sound absorbing material around. Still, this is my favorite place on the UWS, bar none, unless you want the elegance and elegant prices of Leonti.
Cute restaurant but noisy. Ordered the pasta with lobster and it was outstanding. The other entrees my friends ordered were also very good.
The grain bowl had a HUGE pile of Daikon radish but very little chickpea or watercress.
Needs a better balance
Chicken under brick, skin not crispy, just soft and rubbery/fatty. Meat was tasty though.
Nice Martin is one of our favorite restaurants when visiting NY. I think this is about our 4th visit. I particularly go there for the wonderful duck breast. However this trip to Nice Martin was disappointing. There is a new chef and the beloved duck breast is no longer, replaced by Duck l'orange. However, this dish in no way lived up to expectation. So overall, a disappointing experience. Nice Martin is expensive so coming away feeling good about the experience is important. This is the first time that this has not been a great experience. One of the bright lights was the sommelier who has remained excellent and helpful throughout all of our visits. As for the new chef, time will tell.
Excellent service and very good food. Two negatives - tables too close together (my chair was touching the chair of the person at the next table) and quite pricey even for the UWS.
Love it. Great for small group or couples. Price fixe great value. Food is terrific.
My wife and I had the pre-theatre dinner, an excellent value with good service. Moules frites for here - tasty mussels and wonderful fries. Steak frites for me, with the steak medium rare to rare, as requested, tender and succulent. The selection of wines by the glass covers most of what one could want. I’d recommend the soupe pistou appetizer also. We skipped dessert, so no comments there.
I loved the GF menu and they served GF bread, which was excellent.
The service was very slow and it took a long time to get our drinks and I had to ask twice to have my water refilled.
The tuna tartare was average. Lacked flavor. The hanger steak was pretty good - not great - and the dessert was the highlight - basil ice cream!!
The decor was nice and overall it was good experience but I was hoping for better.
Always excellent service and food. It's conveniently located and a neighborhood favorite.
Have dined here many times over the years and it always reliable - good food, reasonably priced with adequate service.
The restaurant can be very noisy depending on where you sit.
Excellent wines and food and service. It is a neighborhood gem!
I have eaten there many times before tonite they were short staffed and the service was terrible
Nice staff, although not good coordination! Had to ask for things over and over... Food terrible, steak frites was tasteless lowest quality beef!
Bottom line a place that I will not go back!!
great lunch spot. Diverse menu with a great price fix lunch and staff is excellent.
I used to like this place, but during my recent visit, we waited for a table despite our reservation, then waited more than an hour for our order to be served. The restaurant was so noisy we could barely hear each other. And the waiter was snooty and full of excuses for the lateness or our meal. A glass of wine we ordered failed to appear, and we had to flag down a waiter to re-order it. Finally, my fish dish was served room temperature after the long wait. I think it must have been sitting around before being served. By then, we were too hungry and it was too late to send it back and wait for anther meal.
Only negative they were out of our favorite biscuits at 11 am.
Hostess was lovely, food was incredible, service was terrible.
