Nia Ratings and Reviews
I’ve been a patron at this restaurant for several years. I always order the bacon wrapped dates and lamb meatballs.
This visit, the bacon was dried out and over cooked, and the dates were gummy and tasted old.
My friend and I did mention this to our server but she appeared indifferent.
When we arrived, I informed the hostess who was also out server that I’d made reservation via Open Table, she acknowledged and verified on her check in screen but instead of checking me in, she canceled my Open Table reservation.
I’m the end, with a mostly empty restaurant, our server asked my friend and I to move where we’d been sitting for most the evening to another location??? This was in effort to accommodate a group that could have been accommodated at a different section without disturbing us.
Before my friend agreed to moving, the server made the move decision for us and started moving our tableware.
The server attempted to make a means by bringing free dessert 15 minutes later; dessert we didn’t want and most of which wasn’t touched.
My friend and I typically tip 20% or more but reluctantly gave a tip of close to 10%.
We will find a new place to enjoy our get togethers...
I came here with a girlfriend before our night out on a Saturday. We had the Nia salad and grilled asparagus to start, followed by the scallops and lamb meatballs. For dessert, the creme brûlée. All of this was shareable and the proportions were just right. I felt like we had a great meal without feeling stuffed. I enjoyed my glass of Prosecco and my friend liked the Hey Girl made with St. Germain. The window view of busy Randolph Street by the bar was great and the staff couldn’t have been nicer! I met the owner Nia who told us about her Greek family and love for food growing up in Chicago. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a date spot or night out with friends. I look forward to returning for one of their tasting events held 2 times a month. I highly recommend!
Honestly, the food was hit or miss. The eggplant involtini and the patatas bravas were good. We ordered a bunch of different seafood dishes and all of them were just okay. From the meat dishes, some weren't bad. However, the grilled strip steak was like shoe leather.
Had a great dinner, did the 8 course menu. Great selection, everything we chose was good, and such a great way to experience so many nice flavors. The scallops were some of the best I've ever eaten. Bread pudding was to die for as well. Really surprising the amount of food and the quality for such a reasonable price. Nia made a great wine suggestion, definitely suggest trying something new here. Great "hidden gem" of West Loop dining. Cozy atmosphere and good for dates where you can actually talk comfortably. I've enjoyed every time I've eaten here but tonight was truly great.
Ate outside in their terrific sidewalk space. Very cool potted herbs delineated the area, and on this very nice evening, we were happy to be there. Waitress attentive and friendly. Tapas and wine all very good. Eighties music playing a bit loudly. (Didn't like it during the eighties, so not my favorite now.) Good spot for a light meal in a great location.
This was our 3rd or 4th time at Nia and it was excellent as usual. We went with family to celebrate my daughter's birthday . We were a group of 7, so we ordered from the group dining menu for the first time- which meant 8 courses, each of which were served family style. That worked out better than I thought it would, and everything we ate was delicious. The Nia Salad, Crisp Calmari, Mushroom Risoto and Lamb & Feta Meatballs were our favorites. Our server, Antonia, was a delight. We'll definitely back :)
We consider ourselves regulars, as the Menu is consistent, and the food, even more so. The service is friendly and homey, there is never a rush to get out, and we feel entirely comfortable there. Much of this is due to Nia, herself, and the tenor and tone she establishes for her serving staff. Always a good trip. The small plate of mushrooms is superb.
I found Nia a passable experience but nothing exceptional. The small plates are actually larger and filling, but ultimately unremarkable. The service however was very attentive and the music that was played in the background absolutely perfect. Not very expensive so if you're looking for a meal that is predictable, with good service and decent atmosphere this is your place.
The food and service were solid, but nothing here was standout. Even for small plates some of the portions were very small and by the end of the meal it felt like we paid too much for what we got. Also, the restaurant had many empty tables inside on a Friday night, but only listed early and late reservation times on Open Table. And then, a few minutes after my party finished dining, I received an email that Nia had canceled my reservation, even though I gave them my name when I arrived. Nothing was bad about the experience, but a disappointment given all the great restaurants in the area.
My second visit, I live out of state and don't get to Chicago often. Told the friend who lives there I wanted to go, she'd never heard of it, but loved it too! Curious as to when its "busy" time is. I've been on a Saturday, about 1:00pm, and Thursday 6:30pm, and it was basically empty both times.
This restaurant was listed as one of the most romantic restaurants in Chicago. And it did not disappoint. The ambiance was very intimate and the service/treatment of the guests was superb. The food was delightful and very tasty. I enjoyed everything about this restaurant and can't wait to come back.
Our party of 4 thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Nia. We had an early reservation at 6:30pm, so the indoor tables were not full. We appreciated the opportunity to converse with each other in a quieter atmosphere. The restaurant has a lot of ambience, and the service was excellent. Nia serves tapas, so we ordered several small plates, ranging from salmon and mahi mahi to lamb & feta meatballs to risotto. My mahi mahi came with asparagus. Another friend ordered an asparagus plate, which had additional seasonings on it. We found a good wine list, too. We do not live in Chicago so enjoy trying a new place whenever we visit. We would gladly return to this restaurant next time we're in Chicago!
Nia was alright. Nothing to criticize about it. Nothing to crazy about it at the same time. If you are looking for good valued tapas place, probably Nia wouldn't be the place you'd like to go. There are cheap and good tapas place around the city. But I liked the environment of the restaurant and the service. It was a good time.
The tasting menu was great for our party of 5. We had a hard time just picking one from each course. With all the options we easily can see co I g back to try something new. Only downside, was I felt a little rushed with all the small plates coming out so quickly and in multiples. I will still be going back for seconds though.
Made the reservation with Opentable, but later on (once we were home from dinner late night) got an email saying my reservation was cancelled by the restaurant (even though we did go and at the entrance shared details about our resevation) and I didnt receive the bonus points from Opentable. I feel the staff could be more alert.
We weren't sure about the family style tapas for $35 per person, there were 8 courses including dessert. It was wonderful. There were 6 of us for a birthday party. The selection was made by consensus and we each had our favorite. The bacon wrapped dates, the nia salad, and the wild mushroom risotto were favorites.
I took my wife to Nia for her birthday. She is a business executive and experiences fine dining very frequently with clients. Nia is a restaurant that she would bring a client or friend to impress them and have an absolutely delicious meal with great service . We had the nine course small plate option and it was amazing and not expensive at all.
