Overall great experience and we will be back. Only one element prevented an all around 5 and that was the mushroom linguini which was way too much cream topped by a heavy dose of cheese. A lighter touch would have yielded a much better and more refined dish.
Delicious food. Excellent service with careful attention to dietary restrictions. Noisy, but it was Saturday night.
Had a reservation and was seated at table in bar. Did not realize there was an entire restaurant on other side. Certainly would have rather been seated there as bar was very noisy and didn't need TV in my face!
The food was a bit bland. The salmon was fishy. I also thought it was a bit expensive for the quality.
So good, and so much better than wherewithall on Elston!
We had a great time for a family birthday. The restaurant is comfortably stylish with a good menu and we had great service. Surprisingly, the food didn’t quite measure up to the rest of our experience. It was interesting and looked good on the plate, but overall was a little bland. My salmon dish was over cooked and without much flavor, despite the interesting accompaniments, and onion rings and fried chicken were very greasy and not enjoyable. That said, the ambience and service made up for it but I’m not in a hurry to go back, as it was quite expensive by the time we added an appetizer, drinks and dessert.
The food was overall good but a little bland. I think a little seasoning would be helpful.
Had sunday brunch. Tomato test was a good appetizer. Two at the table had the avocado toast which was ok. Bin Jinping lin was godd very spicey would have made a better appetizer
Food terrific!!whitefish and omelette
Just a little heavy for us oldsters. Service, choices, ambiance all good. Cauliflower polenta pretty amazing. Sweet outdoor seating
Outside dining in a nice urban setting. Food is incredible. This is the same restaurant as Kinship. They just changed the name.
My husband and I came here for his birthday. The food was outstanding and so were the cocktails. We sat inside at 6:30pm depending on where you sit, the sun can be directly in your face through the windows. The services was good but a little slow.
We loved the restaurant atmosphere, but service was very slow (time to order drinks once seated, time to order food after ordering drinks, time to be served food...) and the food was good, fresh and fairly inventive but my salmon was overcooked and my guests’ mushroom pasta dish was too big and bland.
Excellent server. Food was very good. Perfect night to dine on the patio.
The honey butter fries are to die for! I definitely want to go back to try the brunch menu.
The honey fries are still my all-time favorites. Loved sitting outside on the patio, too.
Another absolutely fantastic meal at Next of Kin. Best dining experience in Evanston by far
Delicious food, warm ambiance and great service. Not one bad thing to say! A hidden gem in a corporate building!
Good food, a little drafty but the service was very poor. Not staffed well and the waits were much too long.
The food was good. The service was just terrible. They seem to be understaffed and kept apologizing for the slow service but it was unacceptable.
What has happened to this restaurant! The service was so slow. Table next to us got served, turned over and served again before we got our meal. Server never checked with us after taking our order. Monkey bread over done. Omelette very greasy.
Very disappointed since we had had great meals before this.
That was our first time at this rastaurant. It is very modern and fancy inside, patio is also nice. The only thing is that service is a bit slow.Overall good experiance
Fabulous food, can’t wait to return. We sat outside. The outdoor environment is pleasant without being eerily quiet or too loud, just a steady hum. I eat a low salt diet and the server was helpful in determining which dishes could accommodate this request. The cocktails are unique and fun. The brussel sprouts were superb and this was the only zucchini cake (with salmon special) I have ever enjoyed eating! From drinks to dessert it was delicious.
I thought the food was average for the price. The famed honey butter fries were bland and the salmon was overwhelmed by the kale that was served with it. Our cocktails weren't anything special either - too sweet. However, the ambiance and our server were both good, so giving three stars for that.
We always enjoy our dining experience at Next of Kin.
This was my second visit. I took my mother this time because I inherited the foodie status from her. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals. She was so grateful that I ordered the Honey Butter Waffle Fries for us to share! My entree during the first visit was the avocado toast with smoked salmon. This visit I ate the Egg White Omelette. My tastebuds are ever thankful! I’m planning a third visit!
Took advantage of the lovely day and enjoyed a table outside for brunch with a friend. The Brussels are always delish and the entrees did not disappoint. My friend had the avocado toast which was anything but “boring” and I devoured the healthy veggies hash-so yummy!
Awesome unique entrees and desserts. Friendly service
Great location, great seating arrangement (were sitting outside), convenient street parking just outside. Service was prompt and cordial. Food presentation and taste are wonderful. Prices are reasonable. Recommended!
Everything was good but the fried baramundi was too heavily coated. However, it was tasty.
Lovely outdoor eating area and terrific on a nice day. Food is good. Wish there were more prepared salads for those who dont feel like using the salad bar.
Terrific meal with attentive service. Bar good, cocktails a touch sweet for our tastes.
The food was spectacular. They were very accommodating to my food allergies. I'd definitely go there again!
This is our 5th visit to the restaurant. We have really enjoyed this place and looked forward to our reservation. We were not disappointed by the food but the service was particularly bad, very surprising.
What a great experience! We went to NoK the first time for my wife's birthday. Lots of hype came with us making our reservations, and I'll tell you that it really was worth it.
We opened with cocktails, the crab & avocado, and tuna tataki, perfect for a summer day on their very comfortable patio. From there, we enjoyed several salads, steaks, pasta and, oh yes, the much-vaunted fried chicken.
Is it the best fried chicken I've ever had? Debatable. I've been to Charles’ Country Pan Fried Chicken in NYC and Willie Mae's Scotch House in NOLA. Mmmmm... That said, the chicken was perfectly seasoned, fried, and accompanied with the cheddar chive biscuit and a side of the mashed potatoes. One thing I'd like: gravy. But, even with that, AWESOME. I'm going to call this a top five in the country, and the two aforementioned and my mom's are the top three.
The service is tremendous. They are attentive and friendly without being overpowering or intrusive.
This is a great addition to Evanston's food scene. We'll be coming back again and again.
This is an excellent, casual restaurant with terrific food. We were there late on a Saturday night this time and the service, while friendly, was not up to the restaurant’s normal high standards.
Our waiter Mike was excellent
waited over an hour for an outdoor table when we were told it would be 30-35 min. Waitress was not particularly friendly. We ordered the burrata and had 4 at our table. It came with 3 pieces of bread. We would have gladly paid for an extra piece if the waitress would have told us. Been there many times before and the service was just off on Saturday from the hostesses to the wait staff.
Good food, drinks, service. So glad they’re in my neighborhood.
We went for a birthday celebration on a Monday. The restaurant was almost empty, which was a shame. Our dinners were great and reasonably priced. The service was very attentive, but you might have expected that with so few diners.
We will go back for sure.
