My husband and I went to the restaurant because we were given a gift card. Unfortunately, the service was lacking. It seemed like there was one waitress working at that time. She barely came to our table. Never refilled water. We did order drinks but not asked if we wanted another until our main meal arrived. Which took a little while since we ordered steaks. The steak was delicious but it should of been for $46.00 a piece. When the person brought us our steaks, she said we are presently out of steak knives! So we cut the steak with butter knives. Not sure that I would recommend or return to this restaurant.
We had Sunday brunch the morning after attending a Chef's Table event. The brunch was very good, but not great which is expected from the Culinary Center. As an example, I asked that the bacon on my bacon Benedict be well done. In other words crispy. My wife asked that her side order of bacon be done the same way. All the bacon came out limp, in grease. This was unexpected for this place. Otherwise, coffee was good the remainder of the dishes ordered were very good.
Pleasant , Clean, prompt service, nice menu choices, generally good service.
When the meals were delivered my date was served and then the server pushed my plate across the table in front of her face to put my plate down. There was plenty of room for a couple of steps the avoid doing this rude move. Lack of training!
We went for Brunch on 02/25/18. The service was extremely slow. They evidently had not put enough staff on. The food is mostly locally sourced which is a plus, but the execution of the dishes is just okay. That is the problem, the food is just okay. They seem to want this to be a high-end food experience but the flavors are just not there. We ordered the charcuterie, which was the best thing that we had. My eggs benedict could have used a lot more hollandaise and the home fries were just chunks of potatoes that had been deep fried, dry and kind of tasteless. My husband had the omelet that came with a meat sauce that was again very underseasoned. So overall somewhat disappointing.
Great Sunday brunch place! Service and ambiance are excellent. Food is great and it is very affordable.
Rob at the bar mixed great martinis and the soft pretzels were awesome. Highly recommend the fried brussel sprouts for an appetizer. Dinner was good and flavorful but meals were not very temperature hot. Desserts were limited and the chocolate mousse was a little bit of a letdown.
The Bistro did have a great atmosphere...the menu was limited. I would suggest healthier choices or options.
We have had good meals here in the past, but not this time. My meat was so overcooked that part of it was inedible. Our waiter never came back to ask if we needed drinks or to see if everything was satisfactory.
Soup was incredible- great food!!!
The Upstairs Bistro has turned into one of the finest restaurants in town. Tonight’s dinner was great. Since it was a Friday during lent, the chef was willing to modify their excellent Chicken Riggies by replacing the chicken with a variety of fresh vegetables. Amazing! The others in our party had fresh, well seasoned dishes, made to order. All outstanding. You must try the Brussels sprouts! Wow!
The service is incredible. They never say no! They are always there for your very need.
The dinning area is very clean and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming.
Overall, a wonderful experience.
Combination Valentine's Day and Birthday celebration. Special three-course menu was very good.
The Sunday Brunch was an excellent value for the two of us. This is the first time (though I live in Geneva) that we've come to the Upstairs Bistro. I enjoyed the ambiance very much and the quality of the food was outstanding. I have dietary limitations (no grains, dairy, eggs) and was able to have an excellent salad and splurged on the home fries. It would be great to see more options, though I realize that specializing like this can be a challenge.
Food is always great and the atmosphere is comfortable. Little sad to have only 3 tables of people on a Friday night. Should start having theme nights. Like burger night or pasta only that are like samplings paired with a wine or craft beer. Wine and prime night. We will be back, the food is excellent.
The Upstairs Bistro has turned itself around. The food is excellent. Great Friday Fish Fry! Chicken Riggies are consistently good.

Our first time dining here and we were pleasantly surprised. Will definitely go back. Everyone in our party enjoyed what they ordered. Service was great. It was freezing temps outside, but the bistro is upstairs away from open doors so it was nice and cozy.
It's a really classy venue with decent, if not exceptional food. There was a minor problem with a delay in bringing out an appetizer, but when asked the server explained the issue and brought out a complimentary cheese platter which was appreciated. My main problem was that lousy pop music was pumped in - loudly - which seemed out of place in an elegant setting. Classical music would have been more appropriate and if that would be considered too stuffy at least dial down the volume a bit. Also, I would like to see a slightly more varied menu or at least more frequent variation in what's offered. One thing thing that I particularly liked was the opportunity to taste a reasonably priced "flight" of wines - three healthy pours for $10. Unfortunately, the options for the flight were limited. Again - a lovely venue which could be improved with a little tweaking.
Superb. Excellent experience. Can't wait to get back to this exceptional restaurant and culinary experience.

Coffee was on the weak side, but I prefer bold/robust so maybe I'm being picky.
My Boston bibb salad was a few tender leaves with sparse dressing. Tender and crunchy both.
Save room for dessert. We had THE cookie. Not going to spill the beans here, just to say it's worth it even if you don't save room!

Overall the food was quite tasty, but we were surprised and disappointed (that at the Culinary Institute) that the pork chops were all way over-cooked.
This is one of our “go to” restaurants. The Menu changes seasonally and features locally sourced items. Good NYS wine and beer, I essentially love the cheese plate for dessert.
Went to Upstairs Bistro for Veteran’s Day. I ordered the beef special, which was completely bland all around. I’ve worked in fine dining years ago, and would be embarrassed to see someone furiously shaking salt and pepper on a meal I had prepared. My wife ordered the sweet potato gnocchi, which she could not eat as it was deep fried and way too sweet. Gnocchi should be light and pillowy, but this was like eating sugary deep fried dough balls with syrup. The 5 onion soup was OK, though I wasn’t sure if this was meant to be similar to French onion soup because it looked as though there was a piece of cheese burnt into the croutons on top. I did not ask what this was supposed to be. I was also surprised to see that we did not get any bread, especially for an $80 meal before tip. The price was incredibly high for the quality of the food we got. My wife and I have really wanted to like Upstairs Bistro, but after this and a couple other bad experiences during New Years and Valentine’s Day, we definitely won’t waste anymore nights out here. I am not a picky eater by any means, and have only sent three plates back in my entire life, two being at this restaurant on Valentine’s day for being completely inedible. I don’t usually write reviews, but had to share this last experience.
My wife and I met after a week apart. The Bistro is a part of the Culinary Institute, which is often very active. We spotted a friend and had a quick chat. Fare is on the lighter side (flatbreads) but well made and friendly service.
Consistently good and interesting food choices and excellent craft beer list. Definitely one of the best places in Cndga!
My taste buds had an adventure with the white bean appetizer. Very creative with the flavors in the hummus itself as well as the grilled veggies.
Absolutely fantastic, we arrived with high expectations and our expectatipns were surpassed......the ambience, food and staff were wonderful....the only down side was the rainy weather which prevented the views of the lakeside but as a plus the rain made the inside feel warm and cozy !!
First visit for us. Our experience was great. Service was prompt and friendly. Nice menu options, although the special was sold out at 8 PM. We would visit again.
Do not go to this restaurant. DO NOT GO. We ordered cheese as an appetizer. I never saw such hard cheese. Seriously, you needed a lot of strength and a huge knife to cut it. We complained but it didn't make a difference. We ordered a chicken and pasta main course (to share). It came. Cold. No kidding. So we called over the waiter and he took it back to the kitchen. He returned with it. Cold. Unreal. Also, it was quite spicy and I mentioned to the waiter I did not like spicy food. He never suggested this was spicy. Finally, I asked the waiter to send over the manager and I told her about the hard cheese and the freezing main course. She apologized, of course. When we got the bill we were charged for it all. I was shocked by that! Normally restaurants show how sorry they are by cutting the bill. Not this place. So bad food not well cooked and an apology that really isn't one. What can say? Save your money and go somewhere else.
Menu was different from online, and very limited. No specials because of "the new menu". Expensive. $30 for a pork chop. The lights kept flickering the whole night. Very annoying. Building was very nice.
Food very good- well prepared. Excellent view of lake. Service- so- so. Not crowded, but wait staff brought out soups and entrees at same time- we requested soups first. Brought ou three identical soup orders several minutes apart.
Wonderful meal! We stayed with wine flights and tasted some excellent New York wines and had an appetizer of local toasted veges local feta and a farro pea salad, then we had the pork chop and the steak, locally sourced meats very well presented and cooked perfectly!
Was hoping that our visit to the NY Culinary and Wine Center would be better that the last...It is such a beautiful spot, but the food and service are fair (at best). It was not busy, and had to ask waiter twice to refill water, please take our order, get the check, reheat soup served cold, etc. My salad was supposed to have seasonal fruits...apples were mushy and lettuce did not seem fresh. The restaurant needs to up it's game...could be a great destination for people in the Finger Lakes, but major improvements are in order.
Took two 90 year old women and a baby to the Upstairs Bistro and couldn't be more delighted with the ambiance, accessibility, friendly service and delicious fresh and local food! We ate outside watching the boats on Canandaigua Lake--beautiful day and no trouble having conversation in the quiet environment. I will return happily with various groups!

Atmosphere and service were lovely, were very excited to taste the cuisine and found the main menu very basic...sadly, I’ve made stuffed zucchini better at home, dessert was very good though.
We went for an adult Sunday birthday lunch. The waitress was very nice and responsive. The soup was great, the sandwiches were good. They kept the cheesecake we brought refrigerated until we were ready for it. We moved from the outside porch inside as the wind was cold and there was no issue.
Our waiter Sean was terrific as usual. We miss the manager error who has been there for several months as he was very engaging with us and always wanted to assure that we were satisfied. Please bring him back.
Sean is very polite, engaging and right on it for anything that we would like. The best that we have ever had for wait staff. Please let him know how much his terrific service means to our group.
Excellent food and service. Highly recommend. Only downside was we were outside and when the sun went down it was very dark near our table. Other areas seemed to have better lighting though. Don't let that stop you from going. It really is a most wonderful restaurant with amazing fresh ingredients.
Me and my sister chose to have brunch here to enjoy the live music during brunch as listed on web site. Unfortunately when we arrived we were told it was over for the season. Food was overall very good but not perfect. I had the macaroni and cheese with a peppered orrichetti. I didn't see or taste any pepper at all, and that bite would have completed the otherwise delicious dish. No buttermilk dressing was available for the salad. The Riesling dressing was very good however and the salad nice and crisp. I also ordered a specialty drink with blueberry vodka, blueberry, seltzer water and a hint of lavender. I tasted absolutely no lavender, as a matter of fact mostly I just tasted the mixer. My sister ordered the tomatoes Benedict which she said she enjoyed. Overall a good experience but I was hoping for perfect given the fact that the establishment also offers cooking classes. Would go back, the ambience is very nice. Hoping for improvements the next time.
The food and service are outstanding and highly recommended. We sat outside on the terrace with a view of the lake at sundown.
Unfortunately it turned out to be less than satisfactory. There was a function/party downstairs and people came outside to smoke. The smoke carried right up to where we were eating and ruined the meal. We spoke to our server several times and he did the best he could to get the smokers to move, but he was ultimately unsuccessful.
I understand that some people need to smoke, but management needs to find a designated smoking area away from diners.
