About New Leaf Restaurant & Bar
Nestled in beautiful Fort Tryon Park in upper Manhattan, steps from the acclaimed Cloisters Museum, the New Leaf Restaurant & Bar serves a contemporary new American menu for lunch. We serve dinner all seven days and brunch on weekends! We accept reservations for all dining times.

I started with a delicious mushroom soup and requested some bread to go with. For my main course I was given incorrect information on what vegetables were in the quinoa dish. The waiter never asked how the food was. A good thing as it was oily and lacked flavor, an uneccesary disappointment. I stopped in there because of the lovely location.
Our dishes were either good enough, or not quite up to scratch. Nothing quite lived up to the prices charged. The tiramisu was not even tiramisu (mascarpone folks, not cream cheese). They get away with this probably b/c it is such a special spot. But next time will order the burger and save my big money for a restaurant that earns it.
We went after a concert at the Cloisters for an early dinner. There was a wedding going on in the large room. We were seated in the bar room which is cozy. It was snowing outside and the scene was beautiful as it got dark. The waiter thoughtfully suggested we get our orders in before the kitchen was swamped by the wedding. All came in good order and was delicious.
I love going to the New Leaf restaurant- it is one of the coziest spots in Washington Heights. However, I was very disappointed with the service we had yesterday afternoon for brunch; Our waitress was absent throughout our meal. We found ourselves constantly asking the busboy to track her down for us- and at the end helped us a lot of more than she did. First she forgot to bring us sugar for our coffee (busboy helped us out); We wanted another cocktail midway through our meal (busboy had to track her down); the last straw was when she brought us our dessert menu and didn't come back... for over 20 mins! She only came to our table because I went looking for her to ask for our check! Luckily, we didn't want dessert- but, what if we did? If the restaurant was crowded, I would've understood - but it was not- especially towards the end of our meal, you could've counted how many tables were occupied. I really do hope this was a one time snafu- and not the new norm.
Always a great place for lunch with colleagues. Our table was ready when we arrived. The menu while not huge offered each member of the party a very satisfying and diverse option. Great staff, pleasant environ! Will always go when I need to eat in Washington Heights.
Burger and pulled pork sandwich were very good and tasty, tender and not heavy at all. Not particularly good the cheesecake, average and very expensive. We had our brunch on a sunny Sunday day in the outside tent, was warm, quiet and very comfortable... we leave in the neighborhood and it was a nice and convenient stop after a long walk in the park. We will go back for sure!
The service was OK; not outstanding. Hamburger was average- not the best, nor the worst. French Toast was seriously burnt- not all that good. Dessert was the chocolate mousse cake- not bad. Total was over $100, which was *not* good value. Average food but way overpriced. Would not recommend to a friend.
We have been to the New Leaf a number of times and it always has been enjoyable whether we sit indoors or out in a very large enclosed tent-like area. The food is good and the servers usually are competent and friendly. If you are hungry at brunch, try the Croque Madame. Be prepared to skip dinner — it is rich and quite filling! Also very yummy. My meal mates like the Rancho Huevas quite a bit. The restaurant is not at all inexpensive once you add in the drinks and other beverages, etc., but it’s worth the expense.
Good points: The maitre'd was lovely. the location is wonderful and the seating is far apart in the patio area. The bad points: The food was really below average.
Huevos Rancheros was bland, bland with a dollop of bland, and my entree of pull pork sandwich was ok, but the fries were limp and a very small portion. Service was pretty dismal - our waiter kept forgetting things and disappeared for 40 mins.
A beautiful October afternoon. Visiting the Cloisters we decided to have lunch at New Leaf.
Sitting out on the patio was very nice. The food was good.. It was a brunch menu on Sunday. Menu could use a little more pizazz. The Bellini's and Bloody Mary were very good. Tables are not close together so you can have a quiet conversation. Service was not good. Waited a long time after being seated and waited a long time for entrees and for coffee. We enjoyed the beautiful day outside on the Patio it was worth it.
I have been here before a few times and I remember the menu being much better. There were no specials and it didn't offer a lot to choose from if you aren't a meat eater or vegan /Christian's The staff is great and sometimes there's live music. It's a quiet, hidden gems in the city.
The menu is very limited. Salmon, roast chicken, and skirt steak and some bar food. Really not good for if you go for dinner. The e prices are hight and the hamburger was overcooked and dry. The bun was burnt. A nice place for lunch in the summer. But on a weekday cool fall evening the place was quiet and almost empty and that is refreshing in overcrowded New York. The staff were kind and helpful.
Unfortunately it was underwhelming . The food is very straight forward. Really a wedding reception menu. We noted in the reservation that this was our anniversary but no special acknowledgement was made. It’s a beautiful setting but the rest of the experience does not match up. The prices are really just too high for the quality even taking into account being in Manhattan.
Hostess was less than welcoming and had a stain on her shirt. While the waitress was pleasant she was a bit formulaic and when asked if the chef was in(due to a long wait for food) - she said she would have her manager check. In fairness they comped us for coffee. But overall very low energy . Food however was good. The bus person was the most affable. It's a Shame this place isn't more appealing as the venue is great.
I'm not one to generally leave reviews but this was a pretty bad experience and I'm hoping the restaurant will take this feedback and be able to make some changes. Went with my fiance to check out the food and overall experience as we were considering this as a possible wedding venue. We read some mixed reviews on the wedding sites so decided to check it out first. Food was not good. Salmon was terribly undercooked despite being prompted by the waitress to have it cooked medium. Beet salad was very salty - tasted like canned beets. Walking up to the restaurant we thought it looked very cute. They sat us in the tented area that I assume they use for weddings. It was an enormous space with very few diners which gave off a weird vibe. The lighting was entirely too bright. It felt like we were eating at a carnival food tent. While being seating by the hostess, she noticed a large dead fly on the table. She pointed it out, and then still tried to seat us there. Not a huge deal except that there were a million empty tables in there. We suggested we just go to another table - which she allowed. Because of the bright lights there were gnats everywhere that kept landing in our food and wine. Spent most of the evening swatting them away. Needless to say - we will not be considering it for a wedding venue. Its a shame because the park is quite nice and it could be a great venue if they fixed some of these key issues.

Seated on time service was good. Food is ok but the outdoor patio is lovely. If you do brunch make an early reservation. When we left there were people waiting and restaurant was packed
The $25 brunch menu was pretty much on par with food you get all over town. What sets this place apart is the spectacular location in Ft Tryon park, just a short walk from the Cloisters. The patio is simply a wonderful place to dine on a nice day. The service was perfunctory at best - plates and glasses more or less thrown down on the table, waiter disappearing at the end of the meal when it was time for the check. But we'd go back.
To be honest, the food and drinks here were fine but nothing to write home about. But the location and ambiance completely make it a place worth going! Up the hill in Fort Tryon Park, it feels like a little escape from the city. The patio manages to be both completely surrounded by trees but with a perfect cross-breeze. It was just classy enough to feel like you were having a nice outing but still had a very enjoyable casual vibe. (And the clientele was a welcoming mix of older people, young adults, and families.) Not somewhere I would go to specifically for the menu, but I'd definitely go back if I were looking to have a long meal out to catch up with friends or something similarly social.
