New Heights
Loved the meal we had - everything was fresh, well-made, and to our tastes. Our entrees included a 1/2-portion of the pork tenderloin, the roasted mushroom vegetarian dish (the mushroom risotto is also on the menu as a side, don’t skip it!), and the steak frites. The portions were perfect and we ate every bite. Service was attentive, professional, and friendly, It was a quiet weeknight so the room was uncrowded, but I get the sense that it wouldn’t be too noisy even if totally full. Definitely will return.
On our last visit, the food was excellent as always. We both ordered the kale salad and the tuna entree. Both were delicious but the server didn't warn us that the tuna entree came with a large salad and no starch. Perhaps this was evident on the menu but a reminder the owner (who took our order) would have led us to other choices. As it was we filled up on bread. My wife was unable to finish the second salad.
Yet another outstanding dinner at New Heights. The Yuzu mignonette for the raw oysters was a great idea, but the oysters were inherently good in both texture and taste. The asparagus salad was also excellent, as was the very generous & hearty Amish chicken breast. I had a fine bottle of Verdejo at a very reasonable price. The service was as friendly, prompt, and attentive as always, and it is a very warm and elegant place to dine. So as not to disappoint, I do note again that one does need to climb one flight of stairs (though food can be ordered also in the bar downstairs.
Highly recommended!
Restaurant was under-staffed and server was inattentive.
Great restaurant and great experience! The food was fabulous. Loved all of the sides, especially the chickpea fries. Other highlights were the tuna, fettuccine carbonara (wish this came in a larger portion option), and mushroom risotto. We LOVED that many of the entrees came with a smaller portion option. We shared several so we could taste more!
Very quiet dining space and respectful staff who left us alone when we were in deep discussion. Perfect place for a date night -- we will be back!
Fantastic! We had a wonderful time with great food. Very impressive.
They gave us personal attention for a family dinner of eight adults and four children, the food and service were outstanding. Highly recommend!
Perfect choice...client had chosen a trendy place with okay food in the noisiest space imaginable...New Heights was the perfect antidote, especially when it turned out that one of the party is a gin freak...was only surprised that we had the dining room to ourselves on a Thursday night...this is a great place that somehow suffers from a lack of buzz and (perhaps) its location
Absolutely wonderful food in a beautiful setting quiet enough for good conversation. Our only concern was parking, but that was no problem at all. What’s more, Metro is an easy walk away. Perfect spot for a nice dinner with friends.
Great food—from foodie (those crispy oysters—wow) to comfort (that chicken—yum). Attentive but unobtrusive service. And so pleasantly quiet in the dining room (even as we occasionally heard the good times in the bar downstairs). Excellent all round. Thanks.
The owner came to our table and was so gracious
What a great place!
Pleasant dining experience. Small, upstairs dining with attentive server. Very few diners during my meal (dinner). The food was quite good and served at a leisurely pace. Seafood especially flavorful and well prepared. Would consider a return.
Dined twice once with a friend and once alone. Both occasions were very enjoyable Contemporary American menu which was s welcome relief from the standard very large portions and multiple ingredients common to most American restaurants. The service is helpful without intrusion and the waitress was knowledgable in helping choose options. The food is simply cooked with good veg sides.
Enjoyed the background jazz tracks over a g&t, of which there are many choices, including house made tonics.
Once again a great experience: relaxed ambiance with understated elegance, friendly, attentive and knowledgeable service and excellent imaginative food with very good wine by the glass selection for the single diner. I chose this time to combine all appetizers, but the mains also looked good. The fried oysters were very good but nothing unusual; the grilled asparagus salad was outstanding (the fried egg made it different from anything I had had), and the beef tartar was even better. But be warned: it has a "kick" to it that you may love like me or not. If you arrive early, you can try one of the gin drinks from the very wide selection (but the number of brands available is not quite as large as the list implies). Some parts of the menu change, so before going, do check the menu on the restaurant's own website. That given on other sites may be outdated. Ah, one last note: it *is* on the second floor, so if stairs are a problem for you, you probably need to go elsewhere. You can eat downstairs at the bar, but it can be crowded.
Incredible restaurant at many levels!! It explains why and how it has been in existence for 32 years!!!
The food was wonderful. All of it. 3rd time here and May return tomorrow nite. Limited menu but oh so interesting. Croquettes were a a light wonderful foil to the richness of the confit. Roasted shishito peppers were delish. My wife had half portion of the crab cake and half portion of the scallops. Both were outstanding. She only let me me taste the scallops plated with black beluga lentils. Can’t go wrong. Very interesting cocktails . Featuring gin of course. Varied by the glass wine list. I had the vouvray (chenin Blanc) which paired nicely with branzino and curried cauliflower. I can go on but you need to come here and to taste for yourself. My guess is you won’t be disappointed.
I have died at New Heights for over 20 years. The food, service and ambiance have consistently been 5 Stars.
Love this restaurant. It is our go-to place for special occasions and for date night. We generally stay at the Omni Shoreham and walk over to the restaurant. The food is always excellent and the service perfect. The owner is a wonderful gentleman who is generally there to greet guests. The downstairs area is the "gin joint." So, if you love gin, this is the place for you. The bartenders are very knowledgeable and can make you a drink to your liking. Also found out about "sipping" gins here. Wow! Highly recommend for a romantic evening, convention group, or any reason.
Excellent food and service. The gin list was a treat to study and choose from.
Very good food and service and loved that it was quiet!
We love New Heights Restaurant! We had our wedding supper there 30 years ago and we return for our anniversary dinners every year. The food and service are ee.
Perfect place to meet up as a family and include a few friends. Everything was delicious and the service was excellent. Best of all we didn’t feel rushed out by the staff although we had a very long and leisurely dinner. We will be back.
The food was very good but I would have liked tablecloths to match the level of the meal. We ate outside on metal grate garden tables. This restaurant is pricey so I expected at least table cloths. The service however was excellent. I had the branzino which was excellent but the rice basil risotto needed more basil.
One of the best restaurants in DC for a dinner where you actually can hear your companions conversations without raising your voices. Very good food, wine and gin drinks; vegetarian options; relaxed and charming atmosphere. We will return.
Fantastic, unpretentious, warm hospitality...just lovely. Thank you!
Fantastic food, and friendly, professional service. This always a favorite of ours. They have a fantastic selection of gins, and an excellent wine list. The dining room is tastefully decorated in rich colors and has views over Rock Creek park.
Very nice and efficient server. The food was a mild disappointment. The wine list was quite good.
We've had the pleasure of dining here a few times and each time more impressive than the last. The service is excellent, the food is amazing, the manager is an absolute delight to speak with, and it isn't noisy or over priced. They are incredibly flexible and accommodating. Truly a gem!
It's nice to have such good food in a soothing quiet room.
Wonderful dinner with very attentive service. Everyone enjoyed their main courses, nice wine list - not huge but solid. Gin is a specialty and they have amazing selection. Owner came by table and when he learned our daughter likes dirty martinis, he brought a special infused gin for her to taste. Just a very nice time.
Very accommodating. If you go early for dinner you can hear yourselves.
We arrived and no one else was in the restaurant (we had a reservation-table for three). There was only one waiter and one busboy but that was fine. We received our drinks and the waiter took our order and that was the last we saw of him. All of a sudden three more large tables came in and he was swamped-- we got our salads and then waited forever for our entrees- even though we ordered before the other large tables came in. We received our entrees and had to ask for more water - no other drinks were offered by the busboy and as I mentioned the waiter never came back but he was swamped with these other tables. We flagged busboy for bill and the waiter brought the check and just said "thanks"-no explanation or apology so our tip reflected such but really this is the fault of management- if all of these tables were reserved you know in advance it will be busy so GET MORE HELP. Poor reflection on your management style not on the poor waiter. Food was great but won't be back
This is a delightful, quiet restaurant with high ceilings and window views. Drinks are plentiful and the menu is varied and well-prepared. We think it's a too-well kept secret
The carrot ginger soup was excellent as was the branzino. They seemed short staffed and things like more water or bread took a while.
We ate at New Heights about a year ago and were most pleased. This time, not the same! Would not recommend.
We have not been to New Heights for many years but we were very happy to return! The food was very good and it was lovely to see the very helpful and pleasant owner again! The restaurant itself could use a bit of a “fresh up” but the food was very tasty.
Don’t get stuck in the back of the upstairs. It was absolutely freezing- huge temp difference with the rest of the floor. They need to get an HVAC guy to balance things out. Also on a slow night we were there for a total of two hours. It took forever to get our food. The food was good but the portions were rather skimpy. No salad dressing on my salad and none was offered. I don’t plan to go back.
Another lovely meal at New Heights. The vegetable dishes were particularly appreciated.
Excellent service, quiet attractive atmosphere and fresh clean menu. Well prepared
I’m hesitant to be so negative b/c the food was quite good, and it was a very pleasant setting, not noisy. But I can’t remember when I was last in a good restaurant w such inattentive service. Maybe it was just an off day where half the staff didn’t show up. Though if that were the case I would have expected an explanation.
