Nellie's Southern Kitchen

Had family in from Indianapolis. Brian is a
Musician so had to bring him to Nellie’s. He loved the vibe and his chicken and waffles. My catfish was great as always. And Donte provided great service.
Had only a few minutes for lunch today and Nellie’s team helped out with a quick grilled cheese and soup - perfect! Thanks Lauren & James
This is such a great place! I went with several friends from work and we enjoyed our meals and the vibe. The service was great, love the look and how the restaurant is decorated. I was disappointed that they didn't have any biscuits available, but hopefully will go back and try again.
Brunch was great. The atmosphere here is perfect. Very welcoming and comfortable. At the same time having a very exclusive feel. A gem of a place in Belmont.
What amazing atmosphere in a Saturday evening! The staff was spectacular as well. Our table was very happy with the tremendous flavors we ordered. We will be back!
Over priced and did not care for the atmosphere could have gotten the same thing at the crackle barrel
We had an early lunch or brunch after touring a local garden. The staff couldn't have been more friendly and the food was terrific.
We beat the supper rush with a 5:45 reservation, the place was empty. We ordered the chicken and gravy and the meatloaf. I had heard that the biscuits are really good, so we added a basket of those. They came before the food and were quite a disappointment. They were burned and dry. We sent them back hoping that they were a fluke. The next basket wasn’t burned but they were still dry and chewy....in the South, biscuits are not dry and chewy. Maybe it was an off night for the biscuit maker, but I could have made better ones using Bisquick. Other than that, the food was really good! The servings are definitely for one sitting only, no leftovers for the next day, which is fine. All in all, it was a good experience. My husband and I haven’t had a date night in a long time and the atmosphere was nice. The entertainment was just starting as we were finishing our supper. They sounded good, but we had made other plans. We will be back but I’m not sure we’ll give the biscuits another try...
Just love Nellie's! It's my favorite lunch spot in Belmont. Great lunch specials and several "light lunch" options - PBLT half sandwich (the P is for pimento!) & salad is awesome. And you can choose from any salad on their lunch menu! And Sunday brunch at Nellie's did not disappoint. Chicken & Waffles and Southern Eggs Benedict were so yummy! Our server Sean took good care of us. Live music every night at Nellie's and also on Sunday - the place has a great vibe.
Bar stock was not sufficient. Cranberry with vodka: cranberry watered down. Emily was polite and responded when prompted but was not observant. How could a Southern restaurant be out of cornbread? Pecan crusted green tomatoes were great. We are bringing a group of 20 to dine on the 17th, so we are hoping details of service will not be an issue. Loved the music.
This is the Jonas Brothers restaurant named after their great grandmother. Early reservations; restaurant not busy. Server was attentive until we took a little time to decide on our order, and then she disappeared. I understand we weren't so quick but they weren't busy. Shrimp and grits are very good but shrimp had tails on so that was a messy task before the dish could be eaten. Chicken and dumplings were very good. Banana pudding was wonderful - layered and served in a mason jar with long handle spoons. We ordered biscuits but they were out of biscuits - one of the items they brag about! How could that be when it was so early? They said someone was coming in to make them. We saw other tables with them before we left but we never heard about them again nor were we served biscuits. The music was too loud for our party. It was recorded music when we arrived; then the singer started. He was good but still a little loud for conversation. Just turn it down a notch so diners can easily talk. We really came for dinner and conversation, not music. All in all, a mixed bag. We might go again but there's also a lot of competition in the neighborhood.
Great food, great service, great live entertainment. I’ll be back!
It was mother-in-laws 91 Birthday. Everyone treated her special and she loved it! She was given an apron and desert. We all had a great time.
Setting was great, food was great, service was fair. We must have come on an off night for the staff. Appetizer took almost 20 mins to come out and they gave us the wrong order the first time. Our entires were missing a few items that we had to ask for.
Family date with our 18 month old! The food was excellent and she loved the live music! It was the perfect volume - nice addition without being too loud!
This was my second visit to Nellie's. I loved it the first time, and was very excited to go back. I wasn't as impressed with the food this time. My catfish breadcrumbs tasted stale (moldy) and the fries were oily. I'm hoping the kitchen was just having an off night, and I'd be willing to give this restaurant one more chance.
Enjoyed a late lunch with family at NSK. The menu was full of delicious choices. All three meals were outstanding. The service was excellent too. We want to come back soon!
My Fried Chicken was extremely over cooked..
Food is consistently very good, service is hit or miss. One time, we had great service thanks to a hard working, attentive, and professional young man. Another time it was terrible. It was clear that to the waitress we were an afterthought that didnt deserve her effort. Furthermore, help staff was hanging out in a prep area, talking loudly, and staring at customers. If management can get the service up to the level and consistency of the food, this will be a restaurant to be reckoned with. Otherwise, best to spend a little more and go to Webb Custom Kitchen.
We drove in from Florida the day before and Nellie’s was recommended to us so we thought we would give it a shot. We, 9 of us, got there and the place was pretty empty. Out hostess was friendly as well as our waiter. We ordered two baskets of he mini biscuits and only 1 came. He explained the outside top was busy? Kids ran up and it was empty.....the place started to fill up and we had ordered. Everyone received their food but us. When ours did come, I had to send my dumplings backs because they had been in the window forever and were cold. Probably won’t be back anytime soon.......I wish them the best! Great community.
First time there. We were trying to get something to eat near the airport s my son was traveling through from Europe back to the West coast. Nellie's was about 6 miles away. Food selection is good, portions are large, and overall feel is very casual. An acoustic musician was playing. Our server was a bit scattered, with multiple requests for simple things - drink refills, etc. However, that ultimately didn't detract from a good time.
Fun place for a lunch with friends. The food and service were outstanding.
Our waitress was very absent. She was too busy hanging out at the table next to the stage talking to a man the whole time.
Excellent as usual
Good southern food, friendly service, and live music.
Food was excellent and enjoyed the entertainment! Definitely will be back!
We loved our first visit to Nellie’s! Food was excellent and the prices are very reasonable . Portions are just right - not too big or not enough. Really loved the biscuits, chicken and mashed potatoes - the green beans were SO GOOD! Also enjoyed the live music and the little booth right by the stage. Beautiful decor and super clean ! We will be back - want to try the rooftop but it was too hot this visit! Thanks for a fun evening and for holding my phone when I left it on our booth bench ;)
Best collard greens ever, mac and cheese was great too. Service was the best in the Charlotte area!
Was good! Had a great dinner with my mom and dad and bf.
Our waiter was excellent!
Liked the guitarist too. Food was so tasty.
Drunken collards, meatloaf, mac & cheese. All great.
Service was ok, food was bland without much taste. Was very disappoint.
Quick and efficient staff attended our table of six. Food was hot, fresh and yummy.
Brunch was wonderful!!! I had the French toast and it was divine! Also there was live music playing which really created a nice atmosphere.
Everything was great except the music level was extremely too loud. It was difficult for us to have a conversation with our friends.
We had a great evening. Good food.
Restaurant was very busy and service was less than ideal. We had a reservation which seemed irrelevant as we still had a long wait and ended up sitting in the bar area which actually was nicer since it was near the window.
Hostesses and staff need more training and pr skills.
My wife and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary at Nellie’s. It was my first time there, but not hers. I ordered the ribeye steak, mashed potatoes and okra. I’m not a huge steak guy, but it was a special occasion so I indulged. Everything was very good. I can’t get enough okra since we moved to NC. The steak was very good, but I think I’ll order it medium rare next time. It was medium on this visit. Anything I would say about the steak would be more insightful in terms of everything I don’t know about steak rather than how Nellie’s prepares one, so I’ll just leave that there. No salt on the table, which led me to believe it’s impolite to use salt, lol. The toast and Pimento cheese appetizer was really good. Had a good IPA with my meal.
Good portions. I walked away full but not hurting. As Belmont residents, we’ll definitely be going back. My wife says the outdoor upstairs/roof is nice. There was very nice live entertainment the night we went. Pleasant and not so loud that we couldn’t carry on a nice conversation at the table just 10’ away. Just right.
To be honest, I’d kind of avoided Nellie’s because of the Jonas connection, thinking it would be overly expensive and too much about the Jonas Bros and not enough about good food, but I was mistaken. If you didn’t know anything about the Jonas Bros, you probably wouldn’t even notice there’s a relationship. I was glad to see that. Perfect balance, really. Very pleasantly surprised.
Overall a great meal, very fair price and a great atmosphere.
This was our first visit to Nellie's. We were extremely pleased and will recommend it highly.
If Sebastian is not cooking I see no reason to go to Nellie’s. Pork chops were less than half the size I received before. the spices were not the same and they were not as tender.
We made reservations and didn’t need to wait. I lived the lights over the bar and at first glance i thought it would be nice. There was no silverware or anything condiments on the table our waiter took 29 minutes to come to the table we ordered tea and meatloaf the tea was hot and not enough ice , our meals came and we had to wait on silverware as our meals sat there I ordered coke since the tea was bad but still have not received that. It was very disappointing and if my name was on a restaurant reflecting my values and tastes I would be ashamed to be associated with this one. I’m sorry but so many negatives took place and nothing except the look of the restaurant was a positive.
We have always enjoyed our visits and dining at this restaurant. However, we booked a 8:15 reservation and they were out of several menu items, our biscuits that we ordered as an appetizer came out AFTER our dinner did, our waitress was SLOW about everything including out check, and the music was really really loud! We WILL go again cause it was a fluke visit but our guests would not go again...
