Nellie's Southern Kitchen
Book your next event with us
1st visit, daughter is attending Belmont Abbey..... WE WILL BE BACK, want to try more food ! Extra special when Mr. Jonas got on stage and sang “ Desperado “!
Let me make this clear, I have really like Nellie's in the past. Their food is terrific (my wife loves the chicken and gravy like nobody's business).
The challenge at Nellie's is their front-of-house situation. We had 7:30 reservations on Friday night. We were not sat until 8:20. We ordered our drinks when the waitress made it over, but didn't see them from the bar until after our appetizers came a few entrees arrive... then, a few more minutes later. While we had a really great group of friends with us who enjoyed singing along with the live music, we were there entirely too long.
My hope is that Nellie's figures out this massive issue around service. Their product and venue are good, but their front-of-house has made it so we won't be back any time soon.
Always a pleasure to dine here.
Great first time experience! Our waiter, Quay, was fantastic and helpful. Great service, beautiful atmosphere, will definitely go again!
First visit - will definitely return. Anxious to check out the brunch.
We usually can say that our meal was perfect but not this time. My husband and I both ordered the chicken and dumplings. While the taste was wonderful the meal was cold. I ordered green beans as my side and they were also cold. Pretty disappointing. The service was very good!
Food never disappoints and the live music for Sunday Brunch was fabulous. Highly recommend for a cool brunch spot with a southern twist!
So disappointing. I ordered their "famous" chicken-n-dumplings: the dish came out tepid, at best, and the taste was uneventful. The dumplings were homemade and a nice consistency, but the taste was bland. Our waiter never came back to ask if my guests and I were happy with our choices. I had to go find him to ask that my entree be heated more. He also never came back to refill our water; we had to chase him down for that. My friend ordered the prime rib and mashed potatoes: the potatoes were in a scoop on the plate like you would see on your school cafeteria lunch tray. She was pleased with the prime rib but the remainder of the plate was uneventful. Another guest tried the pulled pork; again, it was just "ok". Bottom line: food was mediocre and service was sorely lacking. We will not return.
Food service a little slow though not that busy, but great server. Nice music. All food very good as always, hoid value.
Great place. Even though it was Sunday morning brunch, they still had live music. Good volume so we could still carry on a conversation at normal volume, and we were right in front of the stage.
Nice lunch with a buddy. Good food, a bit noisy from a group in the back.
We dined on 12/28 and had family in town for the holidays from CA. The live music was fantastic and I wish the man singing had a CD available for sale that evening. We had such an enjoyable time. The server was a bit slow but the food was excellent. We had the artichoke appetizer which was great and had a variation of dinners ranging from Fried Chicken to a BLT. Everything was great and we always love coming back. The street was decorated for Christmas and so festive. The trees were beautifully lit! Great time as always!
Food was phenomenal! Service was a little slower than I’m used to. They seemed like they were short-staffed or out of some foods/services. Also blatantly told us not to order the dessert we were considering. Overall still a great environment and delicious food. Will be back!
We had a very bad experience. We had reservations at 8:30 and were seated promptly. Robin was our server and it took awhile for her to come take drink orders. She took our drink order and appetizer order. Appetizers were brought to the table and Eaten before we even got our drinks. We could see our drinks on the end of the bar for at least 15 minutes- we were tempted to go grab them ourselves. I was brought a glass of water with huge chip in the glass. Our order for dinner was taken 40 minutes after we sat down. Many of the items we ordered were no longer available so we had to go to 2nd and 3rd choices. Our food sat under a warming lamp for at least 10-15 minutes as we saw it when we went to the bathroom. Robin could not even open the bottle of wine- she broke the cork before getting it opened and she actually left the broken cork on the table. Food was mediocre as it had sat too long- biscuits were dry and potatoes were crunchy. Our appetizer plates sat on the table even after robin came to take 2 nd round of drink orders. They were cleared before dinner but just barely. We had just had a wonderful evening showing our adult children the Christmas lights at Daniel Stowe and were looking forward to treating them to dinner at Nellies. Service was nothing like our first visit a year ago. So disappointed.
We have been to Nellies at least a half a dozen times. We love the atmosphere but today was a disappointing experience. We had reservations for party of six and we waited more than 25 minutes and when we walked in and told the Young lady behind the counter we had a reservation she did not even notice we had requested a large booth and she said they had no seating available at all. And again we don’t mind waiting but 25 minutes with a reservation seemed excessive. Food was very good as always with a somewhat limited menu which is their specialty. However I ordered a Caesar salad as a side and I assumed it would be brought before the meal was served however it was brought with my meal which made it very awkward. Personally I believe that whenever salad is ordered as a side that the guest should be asked if they would like their salad served with a meal or prior. Lastly I also ordered club soda with a twist and I received tonic water. Again requested club soda with a twist and received another tonic water. On the third attempt she finally advised me they had Pellegrino water and that was served. The overall experience was less than average. I understand it’s the holidays and servers are tired but it seemed a little discombobulated today like the right handed not know what the left hand is doing. We had 3 different people serving our table and it just seemed redundant like they did not all know what the other had done. We have had less than stellar Service in the past so I definitely think this is one area that could be improved upon.
Very nice restaurant with great service and food. Would definitely go back
Ordered Paul's pinto bowl and unfortunately the beans were not seasoned at all. Added salt and pepper to make them have some flavor. the rest of the experience was great!
I have eaten here often and was disappointed this time. Chicken fryer was down. Crunchy chicken strips were chewy and poorly prepared. Service was slow, had to walk over and ask another server for an iced tea refill and my server wasn’t too happy I did, but hey when you say you’ll get it and I’m trying to eat hot food don’t go take orders from two tables without asking someone else to help. Since the fryer was down I tried chicken and gravy. Ok but probably wouldn’t order again based on that one time. We will be back but another experience like this and that could change.
Just a great experience. Our waiter Bobby was terrific explaing the menu and letter my hubby sample his first chicken snd dumplings. Great food, drinks, atmosphere. Will go back!
The food was amazing and the biscuits were almost as good as my Mom’s biscuits. We tried the captain crunch chicken tenders and they were surprisingly very delicious. I had the chicken and waffles and I honestly can say that was the best fried chicken I have ever had. The ambiance is fantastic!!!!!
Nellie’s is a wonderful place to eat. The interior is modern and cheerful. The food is creative and delicious. I loved the meatloaf with BBQ sauce and my husband loved his maple salmon entree. The vegetables were southern style but didn’t seem unhealthy, in other words, not so greasy or overly seasoned. The sautéed green beans and Trinity corn were excellent. They have a gluten free menu and weekly specials. I highly recommend this restaurant. A new favorite!
Nellie's is our go to restaurant when visiting our son in Belmont. Never disappoints. Always friendly and superb food.
We had a 7:45 reservation. At 8:45 we still were not seated. We then found a table in the bar area but no one ever came to take out order. We finally left around 9 pm when we still had not had anyone take even a drink order. This was the 5th or 6th time we had been to Nellie’s and have always enjoyed ourselves enough that we thought it was worth the drive from Charlotte, but the service was so poor this time, I doubt we’ll ever go back. I can understand things being busy on a Friday night, but if people are still waiting for a table an hour after their reservation, you’re doing something wrong.
Dinner reservation at 6:15pm. Seated at 7:17pm.
3rd time here, and definitely the busiest due to local Christmas events. Entrees were a little rushed as we received within 5 minutes of getting the appetizer, but we understood. Overall highly recommend.
Everyone enjoyed their meal, especially the okra and the collards and artichoke dip.
The food was delicious and the service outstanding. The music added ambiance that added to the experience.
Had our office Christmas dinner here and food was amazing. I did have one issue. Ordered cheesecake for dessert only to be told it was frozen, couldn't be cut. I went out on a limb and asked our server if it could be microwaved for a couple minutes without ruining the quality. It worked perfectly! Didn't anyone know to take the cheesecake out of the freezer?
Food and ambiance was excellent. Service I would say was good. Here is the only complaint we had. So, we understood that if you asked for biscuits they will bring you complimentary biscuits. We were a large party (12) and were there for lunch. We were told that biscuits would not be ready until dinner. So we asked if we could have some cornbread instead. The waitress responded stating that the cornbread cost extra. We then responded, well you don’t have biscuits so can we have cornbread instead. The waitress then stated she would check. Seems to me that good customer service would be that the waitress should have made that recommendation without us asking. So...as we waited for a response we received our entrees (which were very good) but we did not receive a response from the waitress until after we were done and at this point, do even want biscuits??? Well, of course we took them when she stated they would be ready in 10min. Do you really hold your cornbread so sacred that you did whatever you had to do to make biscuits for us so that we could not have cornbread? Either way you look at this, just seems low on the customer service to not provide us something complimentary before our meal came. Overall, I rated this as above par place to eat because the food is excellent and I assume in most cases so is the customer service but this was our first visit and it just left us with little to be desired. Will I go back? Maybe...not too close to where we live but maybe as a smaller group because they don’t seem like they can handle such a large group too efficiently. Maybe they should have had two waitresses. I don’t know but next time, please provide solutions instead of the customer having to derive to a solution for you. All in all, it’s just biscuits but may speak to a bigger flaw in the staffing and customer service.
Apparently they lost our food order! The waitress came by and asked if we wanted dessert and she realized we hadn’t received our food orders. It had been about 45 minutes. She got the order to us in about 15 minutes after that. Good thing we weren’t in a hurry.
Great! Food is the best in Belmont
Great place . Trendy ! Great menu . I wish the craft beer selection was a bit more inclusive of darker beers.
Live music each time we have been there.
If you have small kids that are in the active stage , this may not be there best place for them , there is. It much for them to do / keep occupied .
Great for date night , brunch , or get together .
It can be a little noisy inside , great atmosphere though . Service was great and menu was delicious!
Overall the whole experience was great, food is awesome and the ambiance it’s perfect to spend with family and friends.
Food was excellent, server was not as attentive as he could be for a table of 4 and place was not crowded.
They ran out of homemade biscuits and we finally got them st the time we got the check
We’ve eaten here many times - the food is ALWAYS superb. My only issue tonight was with the waitress. She informed us it was her 1st night and we had a party of 10. It was far too much for her to handle on her own. She would forget about drinks, she’d disappear, etc and it was a little irritating. There’s a mandatory gratuity and so she walked away with $52 in tips but the service was not commensurate.
Food great as usual! Service was very bad!!! Waiter could have cared less if he was there or not!!! Anything we need other staff would get for us after requesting. Our waiter never checked on us and had a very bad attitude! I would understand if they were busy. But they weren't!
Had the catfish and Mac n cheese and it exceeded expectations, very good!
The service was the very slow and when we got our appetizer, the plates were dirty.
Always great, we really enjoy the music for Sunday brunch!
I Love Nellies but this time nur waitress Emily was not very observant and attending. Water glasses were Not refilled. The fried Chicken was undercooked. I usually get it cause it is so good but this time it was lacking. I would have rather waited a couple more Minutes for the Chicken to be done. Wine was excellent.
