Chef Jared Van Camp has crafted an obsessively house-made and locally focused bill of fare. While taking influence from Italy, Spain and France, the ingredients and products are sourced exclusively from the Midwest.
The design is inspired by Villa Nellcôte, the French chateau where the Rolling Stones recorded “Exile on Main Street” in the 1970s. Between recording sessions (and bouts of debauchery), the band and their famous friends would gather over hours-long meals prepared by a chef who sourced each day’s ingredients from the local markets.
Like its namesake chateau, Nellcôte is opulent and approachable, a neighborhood restaurant wrapped in high-energy elegance. It’s where friends convene over food and drinks prepared with fresh, seasonal, house-made ingredients — including hand-milled flour — in a setting that feels special. All accompanied by a killer background soundtrack.

We have been to Nell Cote several times before. Mostly for brunch and really liked it. This time we were entertaining guests before a Xmas concert. 5:30 reservation. The place was virtually empty and they sat us way in the back near a bussing station. The buttata appetizer was sour/old. Chicken dish was good as was the salmon entree. The beef was over cooked. Service was OK. Ambiance is always nice. Just not our best experience there. Probably will not rush back.
The food was terrible and overpriced. Beautiful restaurant but wow, was not expecting such terrible food. They have a prime location. Wait staff was nice but slow. Extremely slow getting our drinks to our table. It's a shame because we really wanted to like this place. We truly didn't though.
I used to love this restaurant. I do not understand how a restaurant can go so bad so fast.
The hostess that night was friendly and helpful, the only good part of our night. Our waiter knew absolutely nothing, not about the wine, or the food. Maybe he goes to the better restaurants on the block! The pizza was okay, a bit mushy in the middle. The mushrooms and polenta had a weird smoky taste. The burrata salad just was not good, how can you mess up a salad!? The description of the cauliflower side was not what we were served. Overall a huge disappointment. I will not go back
Food was excellent but the service was substandard. Drinks took 15-20 min to arrive. One of the items we ordered never came, waitress brought the wrong kind of wine, and then brought me someone else's bill which created some confusion. Surprised that there were that many issues for a restaurant open this long. Manager was very helpful and comped a round of drinks. I hope it was just an off night for the server.
It was fine. I have been here many times and like it a lot, didn't get service for 20 minutes, not even a drink, after sitting down. It was busy so wait is understandable. They were nice and comped the first drink. Experience was 3/5 due to wait time. Still will go again. There may have not been enough staff for the level of guests at the time.
We booked a table at Nellcote for our anniversary. They put us at a great table overlooking the whole restaurant! Food was delicious, cocktails were great. The only downside was our server had our table (at the back of the restaurant) as well as tables out on the patio so it took her forever to do anything (get drinks, get cocktail or dessert menus). Would go back, but they need to sort out their server sections.
I had eaten several delicious meals in Chicago last week - Acadia, Blackbird, Monte Verde and was hoping this would be on par with them. I was disappointed. When we arrived it took too long for our waitress to come to our table initially and the restaurant was almost empty. After placing a drinks order, she returned to take our dinner order. About 15 minutes after that, our salads arrived and when we were done our drinks finally arrived. Not the order I am accustomed to. The drinks were delicious but skimpy. Mine was in a tall glass and looked generous but on closer inspection I saw that the glass was mostly taken up by a giant ice cube, leaving very little room for the actual drink. When our salads were finished, it took a long time to get the plates cleared away. After our appetizers were done, we couldn't even get the table cleared. I ended up putting the app plates on the table next to us when our pizza came and had to ask for new plates. After touting the home made flour, the crust was underdone and the pizza little more than some cheese and vegetables hastily thrown together. In the middle of that - the lights went down to almost darkness. Had to ask them to brighten the place up just so I could see the food. In short, not a great experience and blase food.
I have to say the food Wes very good. Every item that we got was good although their service was under par. It seemed like they didn't have enough waiters/waitresses working. Overall it was good though. Food came out on time but the drinks took about 30 mins to get. Emphasis on great food though!
Small plates--three of us shared a flatbread pizza, beet salad, burratta, and polenta, and that was plenty, despite service staff's recommendation otherwise.
A step below other neighborhood small plats, but that also means tables are available . . . still good food for value.
This spot is beautiful. Would definitely come here for a drink again. Service was fantastic...just the right amount of checking in, and the timing was perfect. I really just wish the food fit the high standard that the ambience and service set...oddly runny/soupy polenta and potatoes, half our party ordered the short ribs and it was suuuuuuper spicey, the noodles were kinda hard... sort of bleh food. We ended up going to another Italian place for dessert, and there gobbled up 1, then 2, the FIVE plates of pasta at that place because it was so fresh and delicious. Maybe the pizzas at Nellcôte are a safe bet? Again very gorgeous sexy spot, great music and everyone loved their cocktails, so will be popping back in for a drink, but wish there was a little more attention to the food!
Food was incredible. I had the Crab Pasta dish and shared the Antipasti and Burrata with my family. All so yummy. I know my Mom loved the Amish Chicken, my husband enjoyed the Bolognese, and my best friend really liked the Corn Agnolotti.
The restaurant accommodated my step daughter--who wanted Spaghetti--by removing the Calabrian chilis from the dish and it was perfect. She ate the whole thing. They also made her a fun "mocktail" with extra cherries, per her request., which was lovely.
The only thing is that I did kind of feel like the server was pushing us to order more food than we needed. She said that one bread basket, one antipasti and one order of burrata wouldn't be enough for the 8 of us as starters, so she convinced us to get two of each. It was really too much, coupled with the Entrees that each of us ordered. I appreciated that we were well fed, but one of each of those appetizers would have been fine, and we ended up spending more money for a bunch of appetizers left on the plate that we weren't able to finish because we were stuffed.
Overall, though, everything was beyond delicious, and I can't wait to come back.
We received an email for a Labor Day special for $16 per person bottomless mimosas. I invited 5 friends and we arrived to be seated, but weren't waited on for FORTY Minutes. When the server finally greeted us, he didn't mention the special, we had to ask.
It took another 15 minutes for us to receive our first mimosa. It was painfully slow most of the couple of hours we were there. The food was ok at best.
It would have been one thing if they were busy, but they weren't. The server had a busser drop our food, and never came back except to be flagged down for more mimosas. We later asked about the promised share plate in the offer, which we were told had to be ordered and wasn't automatic. It too was "ok." When the bill came they charged us for it, and we had to pull up the offer to let them know this was supposed to be complimentary.
The third part of the offer was that if you wore white, you were to receive a gift card in the amount of the food purchase for your next visit. This wasn't given and we didn't even ask for it, bc we won't be returning. Overall disappointing experience and this place has really gone downhill!
Such a major disappointment! Such a lovely space and such an ordinary, underwhelming menu. We had heard that it was wonderful when it first opened but has become very ordinary since then. Such a waste of our time and money.
To make matters worse, I had mentioned in my online reservation that we were celebrating a birthday, and then mentioned it again before being seated and we STILL didn't get a candle with even one of our 3 desserts ordered! Shame on them.
Gorgeous space, would be great for a intamate date for two. Great wine selection. Our table for for four felt cramped for all the dishes we were trying to share. The food was good, would have been great if it were not for a few of the dishes sent out. The corn agnolotti pasta was very good, so was the crudo and the steak. What fell short was the mushrooms and polenta, the polenta had zero salt, and the mushrooms were over cooked. The burratta dish was not evenly dressed and not salted and the toast was cold. The bread service would have been great if the bread was warm. I'd have to go again to be fair.
The salmon, cauliflower, and margarita pizza were delicious. The peanut butter semi-freddo dessert was amazing! The service was great, the environment was very nice. It's a bit overpriced but I suppose you pay for both the food and the experience/environment. The drinks were really overpriced for the little amount you get but that's ok. I wasn't there to drink.
