About Negril Village
Located in the heart of Greenwich Village, Negril Village promises to entertain your soul as well as your palette in a hip & classy environment. The latest installment in the Negril chain specializes in Nu Caribbean cuisine or what is dubbed “New York Savvy Caribbean cuisine”. The menu embraces the cooking styles and techniques of destinations such as Trinidad (i.e. Chicken Roti), Puerto Rico (i.e. Island Paella), and of course Jamaica (i.e. Jerk Chicken and Ackee). Set on two levels, the restaurants décor can be described as contemporary yet natural. The spacious dining room, on the upper level, boasts bamboo floors and seashell lined walls; while the Rhum lounge, on the lower level, warms you with its raisin interior, red lacquer floors, and in-house DJ. Live Reggae, Calypso, and Latin bands will further enchant you as you sip one of Negril Village’s many tropical drinks.

Negril Village Ratings and Reviews
We enjoyed our New Year's Eve dinner at Negril. The room we sat in was a bit dark and gloomy for a Caribbean restaurant at New Year's, but as time went on, the food and happy families celebrating more than made up for it. We started with the ackee tostones and cod fritters, all very tasty, especially after a squeeze of lime. The mac& cheese was fine, if a bit dry. Our main courses, spicy, briny seafood Creole, luscious goat curry, shrimp and grits, jerk chicken all delicious. Well seasoned rice and peas and stewed collards/ cabbage accompanied. For dessert, we had a lovely, buttery bread pudding, spicy, gingerbread-like black cake, and an unusually flavorful and moist version of red velvet cake. Our server, Linden was quiet and efficient on the whole. He apologized for our drinks coming after our appetizers, and brought us a complimentary colada. This was nice, but the drinks were a bit sweet for our taste. To note: tip is included and getting to basement bathroom is a bit treacherous. On the whole, we had a great time, and I look forward to coming here again soon.
This was my first time here and my experience was amazing. The jerk chicken was cooked really good. I had the rum infused salmon which was really good. I enjoyed the whipped sweet potatoes, the steam broccoli was cooked really well. I tried my friend’s Jerk steak which was good really well. I also tried her Mac and cheese which could of used some more salt, but overall it was good. Our waiter only checked on us once, and he seemed to be all over the place. It took awhile for us to receive our check and then took awhile for it to be picked up. Afterwards the waiter did apologize for not being attentive, he said one of his parties tried to run out in the check (i felt really bad for him. I didn’t know ppl still did that). Overall i had a really good time. I’ll definitely be back.
Ok where do I start, it was my wife birthday. The first thing we was told the heat wasn’t working, so the place was cold. Next we ordered the appetizer sampler and asked for extra nachos chips and was told we couldn’t get anymore. Next we ordered 2 coconut rum drinks, my wife didn’t like her drink because it was too strong. She wanted a new drink but was told she would be charge for a new drink so they watered down her drink to make it weaker. After that when she went to the bathroom with my daughter you have to walk through part of the kitchen and then down a staircase to the basement. While walking down the steps she slipped and broke her heel on her shoe and bruised her buttock from the fall. The manager was advised about the fall and said he will tell the owner. Today is 12/15/17, the time is 5:06pm, and we still haven’t heard from the restaurant to see if my wife is okay. I can not recommend this restaurant.
The romantic yet vibrant ambiance is perfect. The food is perfect, full of flavor and overall beyond satisfying. We went on a random Monday night, got some drinks with our food and was pleased. I can just imagine how great it is on a Friday or Saturday night.
Always have the best time at Negril! Had some yard food (dasheen, green banana and dumpling) with saltfish, homemade ginger beer and THE best banana pudding I've had anywhere.:) I'm from Dominica so this is the closest I can get to nostalgic home food in a restaurant in NY.
Waiter, think his name was Paul recommended the sampler platter which was superb. I ordered the oxtails which was a little salty but ok. My other friends ordered the jerk salmon & loved it & another ordered the snapper. I ordered a Dark & Stormy (ginger beer & Appleton), it was STRONG and I drank multiple glasses of water. I was hoping to dance into the wee hours of the morning but was disappointed about the recent fire and the renovations are not complete yet.
We'd not dined here in a while due to inconsistencies in the quality of food. We decided to give it another try. The new look of the restaurant is quite lovely. The gentleman taking care of us was kind and thoughtful. That's where the delight ends. The goat was all bones and very fatty. The so-called supervisor came to ask of our experience. After taking the food to the kitchen she explained that goat has 'fat and bones'.... Then she shared she could not take the cost of the two plates off our meal because we'd not sent it back. Huh? You mean the plate you just took to the kitchen at my request ? The ineptitude deepens as she decides to 'remedy' the situation by taking five dollars and the tip off the bill. Negril is cosmetically improved yet food and management are mediocre and defy what used to be a good thing. Not recommended unless you like beautiful green walls and overpowering music.
Negril has fallen off drastically. The food isn't that great for the prices they are charging. Food wasn't made to order, as less than 5 minutes after ordering we where served. The food was lukewarm and lacked the robust flavors of visits past. I will only return for happy hour at most.
Food was not as good as I remember. I used to love the curry goat here but I found that this time, it was just average. Also the appetizers were delivered and we were given no more than 5 minutes before our main courses were delivered. So the pace of the delivery of the food to the table was a bit ridiculous. They added an automatic 17% to the bill which I found to be pretty rude. I actually would have left considerably more than that since I normally do 20-25% and the waiter was very pleasant but since they went ahead and did that, I really didn’t find the need to add anything extra.
I TOOK MY FRIEND HERE FOR HER BIRTHDAY AND WAS EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED AND EMBARRASSED! THE FOOD WAS DRY AND TASTELESS! WHEN I ASKED TO SEE THE MANAGER, SHE ARGUED WITH ME AND INSISTED THAT THE FISH WAS NOT DRY. SHE DIDN'T EVEN APOLOGIZE. WE WAITED A LONG TIME FOR THE WAITER TO TEND TO US. HE PRETENDED TO GIVE US COMPLIMENTARY CAKE WITH A CANDLE BUT CHARGED US $8 FOR IT! TO MAKE IT WORST, THERE WAS ONLY ONE BATHROOM FOR A PLACE PACKED WITH DRINKERS! A WASTE OF $150. THEY HAD A NERVE TO TAKE A TIP OUT! I WILL NEVER GO HERE AGAIN OR RECOMMEND THIS PLACE.
