I carry Japanese heart, I carry it in my dishes
Inspired by fresh and healthful ingredients.
“necco” = Roots
necco’s values are rooted in Japanese heart
necco celebrates the root vegetable
necco hopes to root in this local area
Very authentic Japanese food. Simple menu but appropriate selections available. The Japanese green tea was authentic and delicious. An authentic healthy choice for Japanese food in LA. Will definitely return and recommend to friends.
portions are super small!!
Food was excellent, and their deserts were fantastic. I had the Maccha moch cake, and it was a killer.
Great gluten-free tempura and creative Japanese dishes. We loved garlic edamame !
Lovely restaurant with friendly staff and delicious fresh creative food straight from the Farmer's Market!
Someone is having a good laugh at Necco and it’s probably the kids on the kitchen side of the counter.
A plate of roasted vegetables consisted of an incongruous combination of limpid fingerlings and burnt kobucha, dismally arrayed with rock dry slices of zucchini and lotus root tipped with an artful cross of stringy asparagus. The whole was entirely worse than the parts.
Order the miso-marinated bits and the beings back beyond will produce a platter of pasty tofu & pastier mozzarella slices.
The vegetable tempura was alright if downright oily.
But ah the Omusubi rice balls, supposedly a specialty! Unsticky brown rice barely holding the odd sprig of burdock or the tiniest suggestion of an eggplant or avocado. The kitchen have outdone themselves in marvelously undifferentiated creations here.
All this probably constructed from $5 or less in produce cost, for which, and this is the funny bit, we shelled out 15 times as much.
Fool me once; shame on you Necco.
I’ll send my frenemies over for a do over.
Excellent food and service. I was very happy with their plant based offerings and will be back to enjoy more.
Great service, great food, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Best mother’s day ever, food was amazing as usual and at the end they gave every mum a rose, such a sweet gesture!
Thank you for reopening!
Lovely place for lunch or dinner, food is fresh and tasty, the presentation is typically Japanese, I like he fact that organic produce is used, would definitely recommend this wonderful Japanese restaurant to anyone.
Excellent healthy and organic Japanese tapas! Felt full in a great wholesome way and recommend for people to it out!
They changed the menu substantially, I loved the old one, the new one not so much. New menu features rice balls that for the most part are just that, A big ball of rice . Everything else while fresh and organic did not measure up to the standard of LA's best Japanese food.
We visited Necco for a late lunch. After seeing that it is a small unassuming storefront location we questioned our decision only to to be very pleasantly surprised. The food is delicious, authentic and reasonably priced. This is truly a find and I would recommend it to anyone wanting a delicious meal with warm friendly service.
We'll go back for dinner next time.
Excellent food and service, a great find.
My favorite restaurant in LA. So glad they're back open!
Healthy fresh food
Love this place - 200%. Super delicious and healthy!!! Too sad that they are closed for now...
Love the gluten free options
Too loud. My ears were ringing for 20 min after we left. Bring earplugs.
Always excellent Japanese meals authentically prepared with fresh great ingredients.
The food and presentation EXCELLENT. However, the ecoustics is difficult has to be tolerated. Often heard the scraping of the chair legs on the slate (?) floor. Perhaps this is part of the modern restaurant atmosphere, so my comment may be in the minor. My brother-in-law said, some places are even noisier. Conversations could be hear from other tables and the wait staff.
BUT the food is TERRIFC. I would still come back regardless of the noise. I'll expect it next time. My second time to Necco.
Great. Easy parking. We had a reservation. I arrived first and they seated me 5 minutes before the reservation time.
The presentation of the food was excellent. We had a vegan tasting menu and a normal tasting menu. It was delicious.
Most of the fish dishes were very good--especially the sashimi offerings! Alas, most of the vegetable dishes were fried. The 2-star ambiance-rating is driven by the physical space and conditions: tables are close together, seating can be uncomfortable and cramped, venue can get steamy and loud during prime time. The service was outstanding: bright, helpful, gracious and attentive. Recommended: snapper carpaccio, salmon sashimi, salmon "bite" with topped with salmon eggs, edamame with salt.
I appreciate Necco for a number of reasons. The food is great and I can feel the love they put into. It’s a very authentic experience. I don’t like pretentious and this place is special without the pretense.
Delicious Japanese tapas! Creative dishes using fresh and seasonal ingredients. I really liked the spicy tuna brown rice tacos.
Such yummy vegetables!! I love roots and love eggplant so this place is my kind of place
Great food with quality service.
Flavorful interesting dishes. Outstanding brown rice taco was a treat along with small plates each of scallop, shu mai, and crab. Waiters were knowledgeable and professional.
The chef here is a really cool guy, if you ever sit at the counter and talk with him.
He has a great sense of ingredients and presentation, and his cooking skills are as sharp as his knives (very).
Recommend the sauteed shishito, lotus, renkon plate - seems so simple, but they are the best veggies on a plate I've had. Almost a fulfilling meal, and I'm not a vegan/veggie eater.
Give it a try!
This night was my birthday and Necco never disappoints. I don’t just go for my birthday either but it’s the only place I wanted to celebrate. Everything that comes out of this kitchen is amazing. The tuna taco and the crispy brown rice are just two of my favorites. You can’t go wrong ordering anything of the menu, it’s all so good. I love the space and how perfectly sized it is. And the bathroom is good too. Bathrooms always make or break the place. Necco chef and company really cares about your experience and it’s so refreshing.
What a gem. My new go to location for an intimate and comfortable experience.
Necco puts out well crafted, extreme quality sushi, with a delicious and timelessly modern twist.
I was looking for a delicious place a short car ride from Geffen Playhouse. It's completely unassuming and was almost empty when we arrived, uh-oh was that a bad sign....well, they filled up quickly and turned away the walk-ins, fortunately we had reservations. This japanese style tapas is perfect for mixed crowd, vegan and carnivore can dine together happily. Our favorites were the Lotus Root Croquette and Brown Rice Roll and Salmon bites. This will be our new pre-theatre spot!
Necco is a gem. The food and ambiance were a perfect escape from a rainy LA night.
Necco was amazing! The decor was so simple and rustic but beautiful. The service was impeccable. We were seated right away and the water was very informational and so friendly. The owner was also very friendly and gracious. I went with my mom on a Sunday morning right when they opened. I really wanted to order the Bento and read they only create a few a day. It was DELICIOUS. Every bite had so much flavor, it familiar Japanese flavors but was so unique in the way it was prepared and presented. Beautiful plating, ambiance and service. I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant, no complaints. It's definitely worth the hour trip from OC, will def be returning!!
It was kind of annoying because as soon as we got there at 9:30 p.m. the restaurant had one empty table that needed to be cleaned and seats at the bar like bench Style. I was on a date so I preferred the table and they asked me if I would be happy sitting at the bar instead because they had other parties coming and she was saving the table for them. I already looked online at the reservations when I booked mine and they were openings every 15 minutes so I knew there was no other people coming and I told the hostess that I would prefer to wait for the table she gave me a hard time about it and my date started to give me a hard time about it but I relented and said it's okay we will wait for the table. She cleaned the table we sat down had our meal and just like I predicted we were the last people to enter the restaurant. Anyways so I don't understand why you would treat people who made a reservation like this and force him to sit at a bar when you have people on a date and would leave empty tables open for a potential Group which is never coming after all
Very expensive for what you get. Glad they have vegan options but not worth the price. We tried almost all vegan dishes on the menu and they taste so so. They got busy after 7 so I guess their regular meat and seafood is good. I won't bother if the entire party is vegan but fine if you are trying to accommodate vegan.
First time to this restaurant; had some great vegan options. We loved their food - very original items. The place is small, so be sure to make a reservation.
We tried vegan dishes and seafood dishes. All were tasty and artfully prepared. Very pleasant and attentive server as well.
Very inventive and tasty food. Capable of satisfying a table of both vegans and non.
