Navy Yard Bistro and Wine Bar
Ambiance was excellent food was fabulous, had the duck and a Caesar Salad which were both outstanding. Will return again & again as we live in the area.
Learned later they recently lost their lease and clearly now they could care less about the business or their customers. So sad. It was a wonderful neighborhood gathering spot not that long ago - vibrant and a beloved part of the community.
Great night out with the wife. Friendly place with great food.
Convenient spot in Charlestown. Would like to give more stars, but stating it was a wine bar was disappointing. Ordered the wine from special list. They couldn’t find it. Ordered another, couldn’t find it. I felt bad for server, the manager should have helped her and spoke to us. Not representative of a wine bar. Food was delicious. Would give it another try in future.
Nice find off the tourist track in Boston. Liliane, our server, was delightful. Good food, solid wine list and a definite bistro vibe in the Navy Yard. All good, recommended.
I was surprised at the quality of my meal last weekend. I ordered the pan fried cod because it was super delicious 2 or 3 times before. Yet, it definitely was not of the same quality. It was soupy, less vegetables and cold. Disappointing.
Had Dinnet with friends outside in a quiet corner. Service and Food were Excellent We all enjoyed our meals ( Mussels, vegan lasagna, cod ) Everyone remarked on how much they enjoyed their meal. My only recommendation is a more full cocktail menu.
Food was pretty good. Service was excellent. Just a cool location for a night out.
Vacation dinner night out. We hadn’t eaten at the Navy Yard in a while and I must say it was well worth the trip.
Solid choice for locals and tourists. Menu is not huge but decent selection. Nice wine list.
The Navy Yard Bistro has the best roast chicken I have eaten in years. The other menu items were excellent as well. My wife had cod with a wonderful crispy crust. The wine selection is solid, and it is a great place to have a conversation.
It's been a few years since I've been to NYB even though I live in Charlestown. Last night I was reminded why.
- Outdoor Patio is great. I remember there being more casual seating, but I love the outdoor space.
- Bread and Butter are delish!
- Wine list and Prices are great
- Fish is great (salmon and cod were so cooked really well)
- Caesar Salad was very blah - dressing tasted watered down. Definitely nothing special.
- Heavy Menu that seemed appropriate for winter. Would have loved to have seen some more lighter summer options.
- Tuna appetizer was lacking. Color was dull and needed some "oomph". With this becoming such a common menu item these days, you can't slack on it. Avocado, onion, seaweed salad, sesame, mango are some suggestions.
- Burrata salad - Exceptionally blah. Something that I could have made at home. Tomatoes were very hard and not ripe at all (white centers in all four slices), salad was just lettuce with balsamic drizzle. Really nothing you couldn't make at home.
Interior (especially back room) needs a revamp. Chairs and general decor need a makeover - outdated and slightly dingy.
I feel like this place delivers everywhere other than the food. The food was just not that good for the reviews the restaurant has.
Food and service are always great here. Wine recommendation was wonderful. I’ll keep coming back.
Worst dining experience ever. Table was not ready. Kitchen was too small. One shared bathroom. Food not cooked. We waited 2 hours for food and the server even failed to keep the drinks coming while we waited. Do NOT dine here. The ownership did not know how to handle what looked like a typical Friday crowd. Terrible. We had to order another meal elsewhere afterwards.
We had dinner before a concert performance at the Garden. The service was friendly and attentive. We would return.
We had 4 people with special needs (ages 6-25) in our party and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. Everyone loved the food and enjoyed every minute of our dinner out!
Best place in Boston area. Just moved to the neighborhood and have gone twice already. Love this place- great staff and delicious food!
Food was great and you can’t beat sitting outside in the navy yard!
We all loved our experience there! Thank you! We have been there many times before and will be back!
Navy Yard Bistro is a smallish, buzzing Bistro environment with an excellent menu and wine list, reasonably priced, with excellent service typical, and a lovely overall experience. Its a comfort place for my and my wife and we love having this as a neighborhood restaurant in the Boston Navy Yard.
Top shelf food and service. However the place needs a coat of paint and a little cleaning
Pleasantly surprised, our waitress was a bit slow to come to see us, but she apologized, as she was interviewing over the phone a new person to work there. The tuna tartare had a "poke" taste to it, which I found quite nice. My wife had the mussels, which had almonds in the broth, again added an unexpected taste for mussels. The cod was moist and flavorful, plus there was plenty of sides with the meal that I wouldn't have wanted a separate side. The wines were well priced and the "special" pinot was very good.
Unfortunately they were overbooked, overwhelmed, and overly rude. When I checked into my reservation, the front hostess mistakenly heard my name and rudely said “you were supposed to be here a half hour ago?” And I politely corrected her and pointed out my name on her tablet to show that I was actually early to my reservation. We were then sat with no apology for her attitude.
Fast forward to about half way through our dinner, we were asked to move across the restaurant because they had forgotten about a 15 person reservation that they hadn’t set up for yet. We had just finished an appetizer and were about to get our food, so we didn’t feel like moving and decided to stay while they rushed around to set up for the forgotten party.
Not only was every employee flustered and rushing back and forth next to our table like we weren’t there, our waitress seemed to have forgotten about us as well because we didn’t see her until it was time for the check to come. I have no idea if there was a manager present because there didn’t seem to be anyone in control and I honestly didn’t want to bother finding out. I have never been asked to be moved half way through a meal to accommodate someone else. Personally I think it was a poor choice to treat locals that way and to put all your attention to a party that was visiting out of state for the weekend. There was no concern for our troubles and we were comped one glass of wine even though both of us were having a drink which I found very strange but again, didn’t question it because I didn’t want to add to the mess that the restaurant was dealing with.
I will say that there was ONE waitress who had the decency to apologize for what was going on but I really feel as though it should have been elevated to a managerial level. It was not the waitress’s fault.
Needless to say, we will not be coming back here since the food was average and the environment was poor.
We loved the atmosphere, the staff and the food! Would recommend and will definitely return-
We had a lovely dinner, dining partner said the salmon was one of the best she'd ever had. I had the burger which was excellent. Cute little place with a nice vibe! would definitely go again. We were in the area and decided to try it. Happy we did!
Yummy as always. Great service. Fun time.
I've been to the restaurant a few times before, but this time it wasn't so good. Not worth the money. I had short ribs, "cheesy" polenta and swiss chard. Three things I love. The water from the swiss chard made the polenta soggy, which wasn't very cheesy. The service wasn't very good. Plates and glasses were left piled up on the table and were not cleared away. Never checked up on us after being served.
Stellar as always!!
It was great food, our waitress what nice enough, a little unenthusiastic but we all have those days. The noise level was more than I expected so that was a little disappointing. I also sat next to a couple of younger girls wearing T-shirt’s and sweatpants but I thought I had read there was a business casual dress code.
Fantastic food and service!
Delicious food, great ambiance. Love this place.
A little disappointed in prix fixe for Valentine's Day that was not advertised. Full menu was not available. However, good food and service.
Wide variety of options on the holiday fixed menu with a decent amount of food for the price. Some wines a little over priced, especially those you can find somewhere like Trader Joe's.
It was our first time here and we enjoyed it very much.
When I made my reservation on Open Table, I indicated that it would be for a birthday celebration, and requested a dessert with a candle for my husband at the end of the meal. There was no reply from open table or the restaurant saying that this wouldn’t be possible.
After we finished our dinner, the server asked if we would like any dessert, and I realized then that she didn’t know/had forgotten the request.
It was very disappointing that the ‘birthday dessert’ wasn’t provided as I had expected.
The food we had was very good, and the menu had a variety of interesting choices.
The staff is great... menu has expanded and all apps and salads are worth trying. Steak frites is a classic and the wine list has plenty by the glass choices and variety. Great value too
The Bistro is a great local spot, you can always count on a great meal and friendly service.
Excellent food, service and wine. Doug is a terrific host and bartender. We love eating at the bar there. Though tables are also nice.
