Nautical Cowboy at the Carlton Hotel
Everyone is very friendly. Food was great. Service was in a timely manner
Great venue for our large graduation dinner for 14. Staff was very attentive and friendly. The food was good and the portions were generous. The standout dishes were the bacon wrapped dates and bruschetta appetizers. They don’t have a full liquor license, so stick to the bottled beers, ciders and wine. Overall we had a great experience and will be back again.
the wait for the food was too long. the food was just okay
Appetizers very good. To expensive for the portions you get as far as the main meal
Very nice atmosphere, great food and service. No need to drive up to Paso.
Mother’s Day was a travesty for some of those who chose the Nautical Cowboy . They understaffed and over promised. I was told when I made my reservations that two menus would be offered , but when I arrived that was not the case. After waiting for more than 20 minutes for our reservation we were sat at a table in the middle of this noisy room and only one menu. They had to even ask the manager for a kids menu because the kitchen was so backed up and behind. After about 10 minutes of discussion and the management not allowing us to order off of the regular menu we decided to leave. A few people who had not yet received their food seemed impressed with our choice. Let me tell you, it’s not a light decision for me to get up and leave a restaurant touted to be one of the best in our town but we were so glad we did! Friends that made the same Mother's Day choice told us later that week of their woeful story. They had chosen to stay and stick it out, but they waited THREE HOURS to get their food! We went down the street had a beautiful sushi lunch with the best service that day!
I had family come in from out of town for mothers day and I was excited to try Nautical Cowboy for the first time. Friends told me about a dinner they had there and that is was good., but a little pricey. So when I was able to reserve a table for 8 I was pretty happy. I did wonder about a restaurant that only does dinner, and how they would do with a brunch. It was a set 3 course menu for brunch or you could order from the regular menu. We got there at 10am and the staff was friendly and the restaurant it self was very pretty. Our waiter was very attentive and we a ordered. The first course came out and everyone seemed to enjoy them. The few of us that got the lobster bisque all said the soup was a bit cold but tasty. Then the second course came out. 2 of our party got the crepes. Imagine a big white plate with 2 small crispy crepe rolls with a blob of whipped cream on top. Nothing else the plate. They asked "aren't crepes supposed to be soft and light" . They only ate half. 4 of us got crab Eggs Benedict. They came out ice cold, the eggs, the manager said was done on a suvee and looked like a gooey mess. My mother inlaw was even missing an egg. We complained to the waiter who went back and heated up my wifes dish and remade my mother inlaws. When my wifes came back, the plate was hot and the food was still cold. The mother inlaws was the same. The ladies just said take these, we don't want them. The waiter said he took them off the bill. Then the dessert came. Chocolate Lava Cake. A little mini cake withe raspberry sauce. It was pretty and we all were excited. Everyone got in a single mouthful and at the same time, they said " does this taste SUPER salty to you. It was as if the chef mixed up the salt for the sugar. I called the waiter over and told him what a disaster this whole brunch had been and asked him to have his manager go taste the cakes before they serve them to anyone else. He apologized and said this happened last year as well. Pretty sad.
The server was great but they were out of the steak we wanted and I ordered the scallops and they were not good. The server did what he could to make it right but it was very disappointing.
Some parts of the restaurant are cold (under the vents). They had a wedding so the kitchen was slow (they informed us ahead of time). Salad came out before our appetizer (best part of the meal was the appetizer). Salad didn't have any dressing. Entree was a long time coming and when it came the sauce on my wife's scallops was salty as well as the demi glaze on on bacon wrapped filet. I asked for medium rare and the steak was medium to well. Server only poured our wine once when he came to the table. They did adjust our bill for the slow service and the food not meeting our standards. We won't be going back.
My steak was cooked perfectly. My wife's pork chop was very dry and too heavily seasoned, but our guest's pork chop was fine. Very nice setting and very good service though.
The brunch was to expensive for the qualty.
Over cooked lamb & tri-tip
Thick nasty gravy, hard biscuit s
It was all bad honstley for $39. Per person
A very nice restaurant inside the Carlton Hotel. We had a very nice waiter, food was delivered in a timely manner and prepared to our liking. The interior has a nice ambiance.
Small wedge salad served with browned avocado-and hardly any cheese crumbles ($17 to split) Baked potatoes were cold. Chicken breast was the size of a Cornish game hen. Errors made in order and on bill.
We are sorry you were disappointed with the wedge salad. I agree - it does look small when split and put onto two plates. I will make sure to let the chef know your feedback regarding the avocado. There is no reason to put it out if it is browned at all, we have plenty of it! We have been training new kitchen staff this sounds like a newbie error. As for the chicken, I agree the breast is too small! That's why we're switching to an organic, half-roasted chicken instead. Should be yummy!
Our favorite place for ambiance. Terrific service, best coconut shrimp and pork sliders ever! Caesar salad dressing needed a kick. Very few local wines on the menu....in the middle of wine country! But we’ll definitely return.
The restaurant is OK but unimpressive. The location and room is beautiful but the food does not not match your expectations on seeing the great decor. The wine list is very limited with a fair selection of beers. Although it is touted as a steak and seafood restaurant, the seafood selection is limited with an emphasis on steak. Overall I would go back again but not expect as much.
College send off
Server had a lot of personality and did a great job. The atmosphere is nice, not too loud, good wine list. The food is run by new hires who aren't very knowledgable. This should be improved. We felt for the money the food was not bad but it was on the bland side and uninspiring. To me this seems more like a burger and fries kind of restaurant than rack of lamb or $40 steak. Maybe we were there on an off night. Bacon wrapped scallops came out burned. When we asked the runner if they were supposed to be like this she said they were fine. The server then came and immediately returned them without us needing to say anything. Overall, fine, not a great value, no good reason to go back.
The service and the food and ambiance is great. We wish they hadn't take their fantastic Mac and Cheese off the menu and we hope they bring it back. With Jen as our server and Mike at the bar, it's always a fantastic evening.
Everything was great, just need to work on decor. Feels a little barren.
Excellent food and service. Short wait time. Reasonable prices.
Very nice steakhouse feel combined with a neighborhood bistro. My ribeye was cooked perfectly and my wife’s seafood pasta was very good. We will definitely be back. Great service and local wine selections.
Very good dining experience but unhappy that there was no convenient handicapped parking.
Very accommodating. Service excellent. Had a great time
The food and service is great here. My only complaint was that the portion of grilled salmon was paltry, and not worth the price value. It looked like the portion was about 3 ounces of fish; way too small for an entree. The portion should have been at least 6 to 8 ounces. This restaurant would be far better if it had a FULL BAR, and also served bread with dinner.
It was a pleasant surprise to find this nice eatery in Atascadero. The venue is lovely, and it has the feel of an upscale restaurant (lots of dark wood, nice bar, etc.). The service was excellent; our waitress was very attentive, as were the rest of the staff that waited on us. We enjoyed both our meals -- the butternut squash ravioli, and the baby back ribs. The quality of the food was quite good. Our service was prompt (no long wait, as we've read in some other reviews). Dessert was the only disappointment: we had the ice cream sundae, and the ice cream was rather tasteless. However, that was a minor flaw in our overall dining experience. We'll be back for dinner again, and we'll recommend it to our friends.
Have eaten here several times. Food and service are consistently excellent. Jason always comes to our table for feedback. My only complaint is that the wines by the glass change every 2 weeks and sometimes are pricey. Last nights only choice for Chardonnay was $14.
We live here and always wanted to eat at the restaurant but we were a little bummed after eating there. My wife had coconut shrimp and it was cold my friends wife had the salmon and it was full of bones. I had the rib eye and it was good other then that just a little bummed I was hoping it was a great place so we could keep going back.
We thought we would give the restaurant a try in spite of what we were told. The ambiance is great! Everything after that was ranged from bad to fair. Getting seated was difficult, the bus boy and girl were poorly trained. Other than our waiter the rest of the staff was nice but also poorly trained. My meal was Ciopino which was tepid & like a reduction sauce from obviously sitting around too long. It was anything but fresh. It was served with no utensils and took a while to get them. I think it has potential but they need a lot more training!
I really wanted to be excited by this new restaurant. It’s such a beautiful building and convenient location. But from the very beginning the customer service was lacking. We must have stood for ten minutes being barely acknowledged. Yes we had a reservation. Once we were seated it took way too long for the waitress to introduce herself. Our order took forever. Every time we needed something our waitress was nowhere to be found. We tried to stop other employees but they acted like they didn’t hear you. A lot of employees just stood around watching the others work. There was no flow, teamwork or atmosphere that gave you the impression they have their processes in place. Looking around a lot of other patrons had the same look of frustration on their faces. The food was decent. The flavor was great but the plates were cold because they sat so long waiting to be picked up by our waitress. For the amount charged and not even a basket of bread on the table I’d say the value could be a lot better. I don’t normally leave reviews but this place has a lot of potential if management can get it pulled together. I will probably give this place one more chance to see if they can improve and make a decision then whether I’d ever go back.
Steak was good, baked potato was ok other tha skin burnt and tough, when I called and asked, I was told there would be live music, the last time I was there with my business associates we were impressed with the ambiance and music. There was no entertainment, and the music I could hear sounded horrible. I wish they would have left it off. Management needs to decide how to stay open.
The only night we could get there was a valentine eve and we were sit in the prime dinning which lost some of the ambience of the Nautical Cowboy but the food and service was excellent
the food was cooked and presented with perfection.the noise level(which is very important to me)was very low and pleasant.the waitress was very nice.the whole night was excellent .
A beautiful restaraunt. The service was sub par, but passable. The food was terrible. Ribeye was all fat and no flavor. Sent it back. Vegetables were way undercooked.
Not going back.
We enjoyed the Valentine's Day 3-Course Special- Appetizer Shrimp cocktail was excellent- Grilled artichoke just ok- Entrees of Filet Mignon with Crab and Hollandaise were excellent- Asparagus just ok- Roasted fingerling potatoes just ok- Dessert Chocolate Flourless cake and Ice Cream Sundae were excellent.
Amazing atmosphere and great food!!! The kids even loved their kids meal too!!
Ordered the tomahawk steak and it was very satisfying.
Truly a neighborhood gem! The bone-in Filet was spectacular. Very comfortable atmosphere too.
Party of 8! Once a month we have couples date night. It was our turn to choose. Since we live in Atown we choose a local restaurant.
This is all our first time eating here. The food was excellent! The dessert were yummy. I ordered the cheesecake topped with yummy black berries. Our friend ordered Tiramisu cake and it was the best one I’ve had . The service was excellent! The only lacking here is that they don’t serve mix drinks. Wine and beer only. They have an nice bar area.
We will definitely come back.
Our dinners were delicious. The salmon and scallops had a nice crust on them and were cooked perfectly.
Our group had the Salmon Piccata, Baby Back Ribs, and Beef Rib. They were all very well prepared and delicious! The side dishes were also very good, especially the brussel sprouts. The service was excellent and friendly. The chef came out and asked how we liked our dinner and seemed genuinely interested and I believe proud of his great food. Dessert - the Flourless Chocolate Cake is divine!
The wines by the glass are from a good mix of wineries and tend to be pricey. It would be great it they had a house wine as an option.
We will definitely return!
