National Mechanics' bar in Philadelphia is breathing new life into an old edifice.
When you pull open the tall, ancient doors, curtained in a blood red fabric, you open the passage way to a strange and mixed feeling of warmth and welcome. You can tell the work that went into this beautiful and historic building was wrought by the hands of people who love what they do, and care about those who enter.
So with 32 varieties from across the globe occupying our drafts and bottles, we must have damn near achieved Utopia. From local legends like Yards and Victory to exotic imports like Hitachino and Newcastle Brown, our beer selection will satiate any palate. So stop by, soak in the warm and inviting atmosphere, listen to some unique music and put down a few with old friends, new friends, or slightly slurring strangers. Cheers!

Great place in the Independence Hall area. Great food, beer and overall experience. Kid-friendly as well, which was a plus for our nine year old daughter.

I was rather disappointed with my recent meal at National Mechanics. The sandwich I ordered was a bit skimpy on the filling, pork, and the pork was very fatty. I had to spit out several big clumps of fat. My dining partner's salad was passable. The fries were the best part. Overall, not worth the $14 tab for each. I'd stick to drinks there.

We visited for brunch right at opening. The Eggs Benedict were perfect, as were the home fries. Service was outstanding as the restaurant is set up in a beautiful building. I highly recommend this place.

Found National Mechanics by chance and so glad we did. We had a wonderful server, Meghan, who made our dining experience extra special. Enjoyed rib eye steak cheese steaks, and one of the best veggie burgers EVER! Added a large warm fresh pretzel with cheese sauce and zesty mustard to share. Really enjoyed make your own Bloody Mary bar and the 'beermimosas' :) will go back :)

National Mechanics is such a unique place! We enjoyed our food but even better, we really liked our server, RJ. He was attentive and friendly, even providing us with directions and suggestions since we are not from Philly.

Definitely a loud place. I was in town for the marathon and dropped in to warm up and get a quick bite. We ended up staying longer because it was harder to find a place with a big enough table for us all. Some of the apps were better than others. It was hard to find things for someone with celiac on the menu other than one soup. It was really loud. Our waiter was a bit rude and standoffish. The bar was also chock full of stereotypical Eagles fans heckling and telling off a family from Seattle with Seahawks gear on. Food wasn't bad, decent value, but probably won't go back.
