About Narcissa Restaurant

Named after the beautiful and feisty dairy cow who presides over André Balazs' Hudson Valley farm, the Locusts on Hudson, Narcissa marries the clean flavors and impeccably-sourced ingredients of California cuisine with new techniques of roasting, rotisserie and slow-cooking. Seasonal, local and organic produce from the farm have been specifically planted to support Chef John Fraser's healthy, multi-layered American menu, which offers both simplicity and sophistication.
The intimate neighborhood restaurant offers two dining rooms, one featuring a large open kitchen and chef counter, the other overlooking a charming private garden, allowing for al fresco dining in warmer months.

Very nice selection of breakfast options. Server was very nice and welcoming, ambiance felt homey. Great value for money. Will certainly return.

Many of the reviews are way too harsh. The service was great. Warm. Sincere. Thoughtful. Helpful. Food was very good.

The food at Narcissa is fantastic and that is reason enough to go through the most annoying, immature host stand in the city. Restaurant has wonderful intimate vibe and lighting but nothing excuses front door staff from the Brady Bunch.
Serving staff was a refreshing contrast though it was a different person at each point of contact.
Will return for Brunch sometime.

Had to wait 45min after making a reservation. I was left to stand in the bar for the longest time while other people who arrived later got seated first. I brought this up to hostess and pointed out all the empty seats but all she said was "i'm one person. Please wait". Am i asking too much for getting seated 45 min after my reservation? I did not even get empty apologies like "thank you so much for waiting". Honestly, wanted to leave $0 for tip but didn't think it's fair for the servers. I've dined at a lot of high-end restaurants in all parts of the country, and this is THE WORST customer service by the hostess i have ever seen. I WILL NEVER RETURN, and suggest other diners to NEVER visit this restaurant. Pity that they have good ambiance and decent food, but to be brutally honest, i got an impression that they think they are better than customers. Understand things get busy and people can get frustrated, but i advise the restaurant to never treat customer that way (if they care to even read this review). I would have asked for a refund if i could. What a shocking experience.

We were truly looking forward to dining at Narcissa, having read rave reviews. We finally decided to go for restaurant week, but our experience was awful. Most notably were the extremely small portions which as we were told, were 'special' for restaurant week. Had we known that, we would have not ordered from the special menu, but we discovered that after teh fact (both my husband and I are petite people, nether of us needs a large portion to enjoy a meal, but we left the restaurant hungry!). It should also be noted that the desert took more than 45 minutes to arrive, after constant reminders and assurance that it was being prepared. Never again.

The service was a bit spotty. One of our appetizers was taken away before we had finished it, and they didn't offer to replace it, instead the gave just one of us another drink on them. The food was delicious and the selection for their restaurant week menu was good. The portions were on the small side though. Overall a nice experience and I will go back to sample the rest of the menu.

Food was delicious, ambiance good, but service was a bit distracted. We didn't get bread until we asked. Also, there was a LONG break between entree and dessert.

I frequent Narcissa in the summer to sit in it’s lovely set-back garden, and now I know I have been missing wonderful indoor dining in the winter. The food is fresh, well seasoned, beautifully plated and served by knowledgeable and friendly staff.

Wow it was so great! The dishes were very inventive with a focus on plants -- the carrot fries were so good as well as the beet appetizer dish. The bread was really great as well. It was quiet (unusual for NYC). I think the decor is a bit weird, but that's it. Really fantastic.

 (Los Angeles)·Dined on January 14, 2018

I dined at Narcissa twice in 5 days and 1/14 was my second time. I think I would have rated everything with 5-stars if it was solely based on my first dining experience there 1/10.

(1/10) My daughter and I dined at Narcissa upon the recommendation of the front desk gentleman at the Standard upon check-in. He said it would be perfect for us because I am vegan and my daughter is not. My daughter had the duck, which she swears was the tastiest duck dish ever. She said that it was not gamey at all and the texture of the crispy skin vs the buttery meat was absolutely incredible. They replaced a sea bass dish with cauliflower for me and I ordered the kale as my side and although tasty, I enjoyed our bread and appetizers much more. We ordered the trumpet mushroom (vegan sauce), roasted-charred beets and the chef sent us the Narcissa salad on the house because it took a while for the food to come out. The meal and service this evening were perfect.

(1/14) We were so thrilled about our meal at Narcissa that even though we were now at a different hotel midtown, we wanted to bring the rest of our family to enjoy all the goodness. We ordered the exact same items from 1/10 minus the kale and added the seafood minestrone and scallops for main and carrot fries for sides. The bread that we raved about was cold and the crust wasn't crunchy like our last meal. The duck was a disappointment this evening for the family. They said that it could have been cooked just a tad longer. The beets were not as flavorful but still good. My husband said his seafood minestrone was very good but that's all I got from him.

I think the problem was that we had such an incredible, palate-stimulating experience the first time, the second time just paled in comparison. Service, starting with the host to our wait staff to the chef were all FANTASTIC. In all fairness, we all still enjoyed the meal and I talked about Narcissa to everyone we met up with throughout our trip.

An outstanding evening reunion of cousins and partners. The room has an urban vibe and the music isn't too low, but the effect is to be totally relaxed and happy. And yes, the carrots wellington and the beets were both remarkable. I read a review in the New York issue of wine spectator; eveny word of it was true.

Amazing food in a great location. The locally sourced ingredients are sure to guarantee a great culinary experience for the most sophisticated paladar, although the service seems to be lacking logistical coordination and customer service appreciation, particularly considering they operate within a hotel. As for the general ambience and decor the the restaurant is cozy with some creative accents but there seems to be an overall disconnect between the food and aesthetic concept.

Really good steak tartare and salad. Fresh indeed. Steak Tartare is as good as the one in Riverpark. Much better than La Sirène’s.

The Artic Char is great. Can be just a little bit less salty. But it doesn’t affect the great taste and freshness of this dish.

Chocolate cheese cake is surprisingly not too sweet. Must be very low calorie. Very good taste. Ice cream is also good. $10 is a great price for this dessert.

Will definitely come again.

Wanted to check this place for a while. Decided to do a brunch as with a couple of standard fares you can judge the quality of overall place. Bloody marys were ok, decent but not extremely impressive. Benedict came w/o fries so needed to order separately. Eggs were overcooked. Overall: nice looking place, good service, decent bar, just dont eat there =)

Nice decor and ambiance. The entrance is extremely confusing - they should block off the door in the hotel lobby since you can't be seated from that entrance.

The food was solid - good huevos rancheros and avocado toast. Recommend the cocktails. Coffee is a let-down. They need to work on that. It's not good quality and it's burnt tasting.

Service was fine but nothing noteworthy.

Overall I'd say it's a safe option for brunch but with so many solid options in NYC, it's not a 'must do'.

The food was delicious but what left a bad taste in my mouth was that as i was being seated , of which i asked to be seated away from the door, the hostess informed us we had to move by a certain time

I had reservations and could have sat at any other table . The hostess decided to put us where we sat

I tried to forget the attitude until the waitress says to hurry up to order dessert . That is when i though ENOUGH!

We spoke to the hostess and no apologies , nothing . We could have sat at sny empty table of which i sat down early

To dine is to feel relaxed and welcomed and guess what , I didn’t feel that way

I will tell people do not spend your money at a place that is not gracious

The staff needs to be spoken to because I frequent many restaurants as my friends and this was a horrible experience

I've never written a review, but felt compelled to do so after a recent brunch experience. The waiter kindly offered to bring us coffee right away, but the coffee he served tableside was bizarrely thin and weak. When my aunt asked for a refill - hoping that she's just been given the last drops of an old pot - the server disappeared with her mug only to return ten minutes later with a drink that resembled a tall espresso. No explanation given. Mostly though, I was disappointed by the service. Long stretches of not having anyone swing by our table and the waiter dismissed my aunt's request for her eggs to be cooked medium. According to him, yolks can either be hard or totally soft, no in between. Very amateurish!

Pleasant spot inside The Standard Hotel. Right around the corner from The Public Theater - great for a bite before or after a show. They bring a small loaf of warm bread at the beginning, which is a nice way to get started. Slight twists to each dish make it an interesting meal.

Came back to Narcissa with a friend. Service was very good but food was not quite as outstanding as on prior visits. The preparation of the duck was different and not as good as I remembered. We also were seated at a small table although the restaurant was half empty - not sure why.
