What Insiders Are Saying
Namu Gaji is running a menu of Korean-Japanese science experiments in the Mission. Some work, some don’t.
I like that you can keep your coats and belongings in a box near your table!
Noise level was deafening.
Uncomfortable backless wooden stools meant to be used as chairs were anything but.
Some pieces of steak were tender and good while other pieces of meat were tough and because the the pieces were too big they had to be ripped apart using 2 pairs of chopsticks. Again the greens in the salad were not torn into bite size pieces.
Friday night. Rap blasting. My beer was halfway filled, asked for full beer waitress never returned whole night. Ridiculous
Great neighbourhood gem of a restaurant to satisfy your eclectic taste buds. Korean dishes with a flair! Service was warm and friendly. Cool addition to put coats and bags in baskets under the table.
Could use more art on walls to create a more authentic experience.
Amazing food, and was quite enough to talk to my partner even with the community tables / closed quarters. However, we had a reservation and we were a little slow to be seated. Other than that it was fantastic - waitress even brought over extra sweet potatoes when we raved about how good they were.
Love Namu Gaji! Creative, fun, delicious. Food is next level. The chefs are masters of flavor and the grill. Appreciate that produce comes from the Namu farm. Super special place. Order family style for lunch or dinner and you will not be disappointed. Many dishes only available for a season or nightly special!
Great food and service. Easy to have a vegetarian meal here - rice pot was outstanding!
I love it. Did not know what to expect but I was happily surprised
Food and service was great. Highly recommend that you try this place. My favorite is the bibimbap hot stone. The crispy rice is perfect.
Loved this place! the food was delicious!! the cabbage salad was a favorite! sexy vibes inside. only complaint is the tables r VERY close/its a lil cramped. but wud 100% go back for that salad!!
The place got good vibes with friends again, it requires something to complement with bits of ground meat & veggies to balance out.
I wished the seasonings were more Korean inspired. A nice attempt for a fusion-y restaurant but needs further studies of both Japanese & Korean cuisines.
Our 1st visit. Excellent food and service. Lots of veggie options. Definitely plan on returning.
Food and service are always wonderful. I always take out of town guests to Namu because I know we will never be disappointed. Food explorers are always delighted and the less adventurous order the hamburger which is one of the best in San Francisco.
Even tho we had reservations, we waited a good half hour before they sat us. Been here plenty of times but this time their service was completely off. They forgot our drinks and rushed us through the meal despite us waiting to get sat. Oh off, perhaps an off night.
Excellent!!! Great food and service. It’s like being at a Michelin star restaurant which is not aware of it... relaxed ambiance with some great treats for your tastebuds
I absolutely love the food here. It is innovative, creative, and tasty. On this particular visit, we had the brussel sprouts, maitake mushroom, gyoza, steak, and stonepot. All of which (except the steak, of course) are or could be made vegan. For dessert, the butter mochi....delicious. As for service, it's pretty good, but it took a very long time for an initial visit from a server (we sat there with menus for around 15 minutes). Aside from that, service is knowledgeable and friendly. The restaurant was absolutely packed. This is one of our standbys that doesn't let us down.
We had a reservation but still had to wait 15 min to be seated bc the hostess was nowhere to be found. When seated we also waited for a while just to get water because the restaurant was understaffed. Food was pretty good, but paired with the service and noisey ambiance, it’s not worth it.
Love the food here. As someone allergic to both gluten and dairy, it's heaven finding a place that has amazing gluten-free okonomiyaki, and everything marked that can be modified on the menu. For Valentine's Day, there was a great avocado-based chocolate mousse. Don't ever change, Namu Gaji. Loyal customer here.
We live Namu! We live in Maryland but spend about 8- 9 weeks in San Fran every year visiting with our son and his family. We MUST get to Namu several times. My husband loves the Okynomyoki and we have not found it in our area. I mix it up some and get different dishes each time but everything is always relish.
Great place for a get together with friends. Food served family style. Great variety of Korean Asian-fusion bites. We had most of the appetizers which were all delicious. Then we had the steak, the bimbim bop, and the ramen - again, all delicious and flavorful. Overall an excellent place for good Asian-fusion cuisine.
I loved the food. Unfortunately the waitress was likkited in her ability to describe what was being served and or what the dish was special. Could have been a much better experience with a highly trained wait staff.
They obviously forgot about one of our lunches ordered, however wouldn’t admit it. Everyone who ordered after us received food way before we received even one dish, then next one took at least 10-15 minutes.
Love this place -- exciting, tasty creative food in a very warm albeit apocalyptically loud atmosphere! Was bummed they weren't serving one of my favorite dishes (sous-vide beef tongue cubed and then seared) but that gives me yet another reason to go back.
Best okonomiyaki in the city- I pretty much bully at least one other person to share it with me. I added some oysters to my dinner this visit- delicious, briny, and sweet. It was a cold and rainy night- so we opted for the chocolate cake. Stupendous- chocolate with a bright hint of lemon, and a warm center. Would order again.
Enjoyed the creativity in Thai fusion cooking, just wish it was a bit 'less salty'. Like the freshness of ingredients and speed of service. Very happy w/the experience!
Crowded and casual, Namu Gaji serves excellent California-Korean food, with quick but thoughtful service. Nice selection of sake as well as cocktails made with soju and sochu. Expensive but delicious.
Food was excellent! Unusual pairings and great tastes. I felt the prices were very high- it’s a tapas style / shared plate experience but a few of the small plate prices were 18.00.. seating is communal and if you have a bad back it may be uncomfortable- we sat on low, small, no back stools.
The owner David is a true artist and creates edible art with layers of subtlety in flavors, textures and oral sensation. Truly incredible, delicious, special and beautiful food and dining experience as our server Sandy is such an amazing server and beautiful person too. A+++ and highly recommended for a truly special dining experience.
We had an excellent meal but our service was nonexistent.
Unusual and really tasty food. We especially liked the okonomiyaki. When you make a reservataion, specify whether you prefer high stools at the window, low stools at the counter, or a table.
Overall a great dining experience. Location was central, not far from public transit. Service was a bit curt but efficient. Food was delicious; had the kimchi appetizer (tasty) but not wow. The hamburger with cheddar and egg options added was delicious. Would go back.
Very limited menu. After ordering a few things that we consider attractive we were still hungry and there was not much more to choose from.
This restaurant is overrated. I went during restaurant week and the food was mediocre in comparison to the price paid.
Vegan ramen was bland and had burnt Brussels sprouts in it, and the avocado mousse tasted like literal garbage. Time between courses out of the kitchen was too long, and my sig other remarked how they wanted to leave before the main course
Excellent Korean fusion; lovely and delicious plates; often a wait even with a reservation, but a great spot for the neighborhood
Not very satisfied experience. The place is too busy and we weren’t really being taken care of. It’s also loins and the food is not that tasty either
The food is fabulous— at the same time is creative and inventive and also something is familiar and comforting. Don’t miss the dumplings, the Okonomyyaki (so flavorful!), the steak— but really everything is so tasty. Also great cocktails. The service is warm and attentive— Elise our server (who has waited on us before, too) is lovely and helpful. Fabulous evening all around!
I love the food at Namu Gaji. The service is always great. Hate sitting at the bar. I prefer a table. It’s ridiculously loud.
The food was great and the staff couldn't be nicer. We arrived late because I had a fall on our way to the restaurant and not only were we seated immediately, but the kitchen provided me with ice for my injured foot
