A fun Friday night dinner with great Korean food made with local ingredients and paired Mediterranean wine list. Perfection! We sat at the bar facing the grill and enjoyed watching the action in the kitchen.

Food was great, service was the worst in a long time. Our waitress was awful. We sat for 15 minutes with no water, she suggested an appetizer which came a minute before the meal. The table next to us got their food before us even thought they sat down after us.

We loved this place - very tasty and creative fusion food. Must have the dumplings to start!

Food was great, and our first server was great. However, somehow we got another server, and she was extremely unpleasant, scowling and throwing things around. It was almost comical how unpleasant she was.

Fantastic service and excellent food, with the exception of the steak dish (undercooked, very close to rare; too chewy). By now we've tried alost everything on the menu -- I strongly recommend the dumplings, lamb, and stonepot. Somewhat pricey (portions are small for most menu items).

Some of the most impressive cuisine in SF. Incredible combinations of flavors and texture, they are absolute artists and masters. The amount of care put into each dish carries all the way to your pallet... so much complexity and uniqueness occurring in their dishes. The staff is always wonderful. I've been here a handful of times over the years and always have a top notch experience. It is almost entirely communal seating it is best fit for smaller parties. I don't see a party of 6 having much luck walking in without a reservation, but who knows? It is however, perfect for a date or dinner with a special pal.

I generally enjoyed Namu Gaji, but the experience was a little hit or miss as we moved through the evening. The setting is really unique and beautiful and the service is pleasant. Most of the food was delicious. Mushroom dumplings, kimchi, and the stonepot with steak were highlights. On the negative side, the mushroom terrine ended up being a nearly flavorless loaf of mushrooms and our wine was straight up refrigerated. Not slightly over-chilled, but actually seemed to have spent a few hours in a refrigerator.

I made an attempt to try this restaurant and this korean place has good vibe. How ever the kimchi that I order was overly fermented and dry. I know this restaurant is making qualitative approaches to customers but the quality of food and price for the food was not as compelling to me. Overall customer service was very good and well trained. Highly recommended for the people who wants good service.

This was my first time dining at Namu Gaji. I was with 3 other friends for Sunday brunch. We ordered at the counter and seated ourselves - there was no waiter/table service. I ordered the Okonomiyaji, a very large pancake topped with kim chi, veggies, fish flakes, and a delicious mayo. Overall, the dish was very rich and heavy, so I could only eat about half of it. The restaurant is very small. The ambiance is quaint and cozy. The decor is modern and contemporary. I would return to Namu Gaji to try some more dishes.

Love Namu Gaji as a very tasty option that's a little nicer/more expensive than a basic night out, but not too extravagant. If they had cocktails this place would be complete.

I wish I followed the recommendation for the server when she recommended 4 small/cold dishes and 2 big/hot dishes for 4 people. I was still somewhat hungry after the end of the meal, but good thing I did because my friends actually wanted to go try a different place after.

I liked how the meals came out consistently and we were never left waiting for the next plate. As soon as one dish was done, the other came right out.

I ate there with my daughter and she is half Korean. We could not get past the fusion aspect. I.e., blue cheese dressing, no kimchi, etc. Korean food is fantastic on its own without the strange twists to the meals that we ordered. It was also quite pricey considering that the menu is organized like tapas/tasting plates.

I knew not to have super high expectations after reading other reviews and also because it was a Sat night and thus very busy. My expectations were met fine with the quirky food options, but I did want to point out a few things that I found challenging. I had an Opentable Res but still got seated at a 'counter', that I'm not opposed to..., but having a table would have been nicer. There were a few that the two of us could have been seated at but I suspect they were being held for 4 ppl, so ....I get it. The counter was actually fine and the service, adequate. Couple things that the restaurant could improve on tho are: The food comes out when it's prepared and you don't eat together if you order special things for yourselves. We chose to split everything and that worked as we never knew when someone would come by and drop food in our space. We ordered the burger to split and I asked them to cut it in half....the very aggressive server said she would bring a knife....and she did. Woulda been nice if they did what I requested. The Burger was GOOD. I got my hands all greasy but not the end of the world. We also read the descriptions of that nights okonomiyaki to split. It was great to split but in the description they did not list that a mayonnaise sauce would be completely covering the dish and my other diner doesn't eat it. If they had listed that ingredient, we would have ordered something else. I ate most of it and we had a show to go to so there wasn't time to order another dish for my dining companion.....eeesh. He left hungry. Just 'list' what's in your dish folks. We also waited FOREVER for our food, which made me nervous. It was enough time but nothing moved quickly. Oh yeah... I had glanced over at the kitchen to see if we were ever going to get the burger and I watched the burger sit on a counter for several minutes before it was brought to us Young ppl might like this frantic vibe more. The food is worth a visit but doubt I'll go back.

A fabulous meal. We were not familiar with Korean food. Our server did an excellent job of guiding us through the menu. She suggested sharing family style. The number of dishes she suggested was just right for our group of 4. All of the food was fresh and flavourful. The pacing of the dishes was just right.
You do sit on stools with no backs which might not be suitable for everyone.
We were visitors to San Francisco and would highly reccomend this restaurant.

Food was underwhelming and very expensive. A lot of the dishes seemed to lack acid and fell flat in our opinion because of that. The lamb skewers were very good - tasted more Persian than Korean - but $20+ for 2 tiny skewers? The restaurant was on our list - we are glad we went, but we will not be coming back.

Lunch/Brunch menu offers creative options: (esp Gamji Fries!)<-- fun. Dinner: Overpriced for the plate. Maybe, they feed on location, and ambiance. I had a burger which was, ok. Rich, of course, but, lacking gusto. Bites became chores. Fries were dull. The ramen was, par; but pricey for par. I pay for birdies. Of course, burger + ramen are perhaps not the dishes one would order at a spot like this. I almost wish they weren't on the menu! ~we were trying to keep it simple. Simple turned into, disappointing. Wine/beer/saki list: solid; I'd rather drink elsewhere ––Unless I was having an important leisure conversation––. The service was the finest quality; relaxed, cool, helpful. I recommend this place for a Mid-afternoon light brunch (if you have a stomach for rich food) before hitting nearby spots like Dolores Park or the Mission. Overall, 3.5/5 because I was a little let down tbh; by the food, as it compared to the price. But, it is also kind of fun so. A niche and creative venue, good service, nice ambiance (bit boujie) , rich food --- could be tightened up to become more luxurious (shorter menu, so the chef doesn't have to wing those less-ordered burgers etc.); or, more relaxed so that either that burger is cheaper, or, less rich! peace. thank u.

Must try the Okonomiyaki, insanely good -- tastes authentic! We also had the Turkey Tail which was a treat. I would pass on the Napa Salad (acquired taste). The service was dodgy and we felt rushed, cramped and pestered to order more drinks /beer than we cared for. The stone bowl lacked flavor ... there are plenty of restaurants in the city who do it better and for half the price . To that I'm not sure if I'd think of this place as a comfort place ... and it's not spacious or pulled together enough for a nice night out be it on a date or as a group . It's a little bit in limbo land and we found ourselves wanting a bit more in the food and service when we left . ps. And I'm not sure how I feel about having to view the endless queue of bi-rite ice cream patrons while eating ramen...

As much as I wanted to like this place, I couldn't get past the sodium level of all the food - and I like salt! In theory, the menu seemed a good idea of Korean, Japanese, Chinese and Italian fusion; however, perhaps the execution was off when we dined there since the individual components making up the dishes were lacking in flavor except the salt!
We started with the gamja fries, which were undercooked skin-on fries covered in what pretended to be bulgogi, but was just salty teriyaki covered tough meat, then dressed with a "kimchee relish" which just seemed to be pureed washed out kimchee. All that was decorated with a swizzle of mayonnaise, teriyaki-ish sauce, and gojujang. End result was flavorless soggy potatoes with salty tough meat.
We also had the stone pot (bibimbap), and the rice crisped up nicely in the large bowl, but the toppings were salty with no resemblance to any of the Korean or any flavor that they should have had (I'm Korean, so I do know about Korean food - even when trying to be fusion!)
The ramagnolotti (sp?) had potential, but for a tiny bowl of $22, it had 5 less-than-bite-size dumplings that were tough in a, you guessed it, overly salty broth which was supposed to be a "sauce" but was more like a soup dish where the soup was forgotten! At least the egg was nicely cooked.
Finally, the galbi style steak was trying to find it's identity... is it teriyaki steak or galbi? Fusion is great when the flavors complement and marry each other, but when forcing two foods together that are already salty, well, don't want to beat a dead horse.
I always try to give a place more than one chance, so I do hope to return and find that I just hit a bad day!

Namu Gaji is a really lovely restaurant at the corner of Dolores Park. I really enjoyed sitting at the bar seating at the window, watching the fog roll in over the park. The food was very good - a mix of Korean and American, with a sophisticated viewpoint and interesting touches. We started with oysters and dumplings. I loved the broth the dumplings came in - great umami, lots of depth. Our mains were the burger (incredibly well cooked and the pickled dashi and green tomatoes were fantastic on it) and the hot pot (delicious wagyu beef, vegetables, crispy rice and egg). A really memorable date at this lovely neighborhood spot.
