We took our out of town houseguests there as they are big fans of Indian cuisine. They were very impressed by not only the huge amount of options on the menu, but the quality of the food as well. They were particularly excited to see all the dessert choices, something that apparently they rarely see in their local Indian restaurants.
We sat in one of the elevated booths, which makes it very private and quiet, allowing us not to scream at each other as in so many restaurants nowadays. The service was friendly, knowledgeable and very efficient.
Really good Indian food. Flavorful. A good go to.
Food was delicious and dining room was unexpectedly very empty. Staff seemed a little confused and we had multiple people coming by to ask us the same thing (eg offering to take a drink order when we were waiting for drinks we'd already ordered). Pretty sure it was a training night. Would definitely come back again if I was in the area and craved this cuisine.
Lovely place and awesome staff. Food was delicious. Had o save room for dessert. Rose ice cream was great! 10/10
Good Indian food in Old Town Alexandria. I enjoyed my thali. It featured a variety of delicious dishes.
This was the third and final time we’ve been here. We came when it opened and the food and service wasn’t great, but we put that down to opening issues. 6 months later we ate here and while the food was passable, the chicken curry dish my wife ordered had diced chicken bones in it that she choked on.
This last time was the final straw. We went when it wasn’t busy, we ordered and then my wife’s tandoori chicken came out incredibly quickly. The chicken was barely warm and dry. It had obviously been cooked many hours before and reheated poorly. The salad it was served I was limp and unappetizing. About 10 minutes later the Indian Salad turned up - a pitiful plate of limp iceberg and chopped tomatoes with one ring of cucumber on it. No mint dip, no onion, no care gone into it at all. My dish hadn’t even appeared.
We opted to leave and walked out.
The sign outside says ‘Old Towns Best Indian Restaurant’ - technically as it’s the only Indian Restaurant it’s not a lie - but it also makes it the worst, poorest service, and poorest cuisine standards.
Do yourself a favor and stay away.
Very nice buffet ! And nice helpful staff
Had a great meal there. They have a varied and diverse menu and service was attentive.
We enjoyed the service, atmosphere and food. We’ll return soon.
Delicious food and excellent service. The mango martini is a must!
We had the best time! Will definitely go again!! The food is made from scratch and is flavorful. The staff was attentive and the atmosphere so fun.
My family and I come here 2-3 times a month, so much so that they know us and give us our regular table, which my daughter loves.
The food is spot on, even my Indian mom would approve. They are improving their bar offerings, and we are excited to see where they go with it.
Great flavors. Very nice presentation. Staff excellent. Best Indian food in the area without doubt. Jim
A group of six friends had the lunch buffet on Saturday. Lots of choices, all delicious, and nice service filling water and removing plates.
Only wanted the buffet, but it was offered for dinner
Excellent food and friendly service. Pricing is quite reasonable and great variety of choices, including for vegans and vegetarians.
Great food, food service and rrelaxed atmospher!
As an Indian, it’s hard to find restaurants that mom would approve of, but Namaste is one that she’s love.
Excellent selection and variety. Good service. Try the mango martini.
We got seated right away, the menu is extensive, service was good and so was the food!
We’ve been here before and always return because our food is always excellent! We’ve had spotty service before but this time it was perfect. Bravo! Only thé ambiance is a little below the cuisine. But we’ll come back for the delicious food. And always generous portions.
They’ve been making some upgrades in the menu and website, but the food is just as delicious as always! You can’t miss with samosa chat, butter chicken, and onion kulcha!
Sehr lecker. Sehr zu empfehlen.
Lovely space to have a meal with large, arched booths available if you arrive early. We started with samosa chat which were quite good and not too spicy and followed this with the tandoori grill dish. (A nice mix of salmon, chicken, lamb and one shrimp.) Well seasoned and you could order it based on your spice tolerance. The chicken biryani used a longer grain rice and is a darker color than we were used to seeing but was also well prepared and flavorful. We also ordered kasmiri naan (a sweet, fruit stuffed bread) and dal. All good dishes and well seasoned. Attentive service and quiet enough to hear each other talk. Would have liked a little music perhaps. :)
Fantastic flavors! We wanted to lick our plates! But they simply don’t have enough servers to provide good attentive service. But it’s so excellent we will return most certainly.
My friends and I began a ritual of trying different ethnic restaurants once a month. I took a poll from google, yelp and ListServ and Nepalese won for Indian cuisine. I made a reservation through Open Table with a note we were looking forward to trying it. Within an hour the Manager Jay, called me saying to be sure to ask for him. We were greeted like old friends.
Since I was the only one slightly familiar with Indian food, he suggested the buffet. He took the time to tell us about each item on the buffet table. It was all fresh, plentiful and every sauce and entree was absolutely delicious.
If you read this Jay, thank you for a delightful experience. You made these rookies a huge fan and we will be seeing you and Nepalese a lot more.
Truly delicious and a lovely evening, unfortunate that the restaurant was short-staffed so service quite slow, forgetful (multiple asks, etc. as you might expect on a short-staffed night).
This meal was the highlight of a lovely evening in Alexandria. Service was pleasant and welcoming. The minced lamb seekh kabob was fragrantly flavorful with a nice texture, and a shredded paneer dish (name?) that was new to us was quite good too. The Indian dishes we ordered were well prepared classics with no surprises. Spice levels were generous even if a bit inconsistent across dishes. Though we did not take advantage of it on this occasion, others may find it valuable to know that the menu mentions the ability to accommodate gluten free diets and food allergies -- of course, be sure to contact the restaurant directly to verify this prior to making your plans.
My wife and I came to Alexandria (Old Town specifically), because we just love this place and it was her birthday weekend. I made reservations online through OpenTable and made a request for a little something special, if possible, for my wife's birthday. However, I was informed that somehow the reservations never went through (although I was receiving reminders from OpenTable). No biggie, we were able to get a table without a problem. The food was pretty good. She got the lamb madras and I got the chicken madras. My wife absolutely loves Indian cuisine so I was happy the food lived up to expectations. My only complaint was the service. I snuck off earlier in the dinner and spoke to our server about it being my wife's birthday and if there was anyway something could be done. He says, "I'll see what I can do." That was one of the maybe handful of times we saw our server. We had to flag him down to order dessert and once that was brought out that was the last we saw of him. Someone else gave us the check and I never did find out if there was anything he could do for my wife's birthday. The restaurant wasn't packed but the was a large party there that played a large role in the loud noise level that night. If we're ever in town again and choose to eat there, it'll be takeout.
Buffet choices were numerous but food was not kept hot at all in the chafing dishes. Place just seemed sort of slow and tired. Would not return
Great food and great service. The prices were also very reasonable, especially for the location.
Very authentic Indian food! Loved the dosa masala!
Loved our first visit to Namaste. This is probably our new favorite restaurant. Looking forward to regular visits!!!!
Conveniently located near the King Street station, if you are just passing through Old Town. The owner was extremely friendly and the food was outstanding!
We went for dinner. I have been to the Namaste on Franconia road for the lunch buffet and we are always very pleased with the food and service. The restaurant itself is very attractive, but on a Friday night at 7pm it was pretty empty. The service at this location was confusing. We had multiple servers. We asked one server for recommendations, he simply replied it is all good. So we were on our own. Not being especially familiar with Nepalese/Indian cuisine I got the stand by dish of Chicken Tikka Masala, it was unimpressive. I was with 3 other people they all liked their dishes enough, but not outstanding. The naan bread is not included with the meals so you must pay extra for it. We were given 2 dishes of rice, even though 3 of the dishes were supposed to be served with rice. We all shared a plate of chili momo dumplings as an appetizer with a chicken filling, these were the best part of the meal. The bill was $100 for the 4 of us for 1 appetizer, 4 main dishes and an $8 basket of naan...no drinks or dessert. We felt like it was overpriced for what we got. We may try the Old Town location again for the lunch buffet, but I wouldn't return again for dinner.
The food was wonderful. Shrimp curry was excellent. I enjoyed the food so much, I returned the next night and ordered the Seafood Thali, which was beautifully presented and quite delicious.
The food is delicious and the wait staff is friendly and attentive.
We stopped in for the Sunday buffet and were blown away. Incredible flavors. This is seriously some of the best Indian food we have had in years. The sauces were silky and luxurious. The chutneys were thick and flavorful. Servers were friendly. The restaurant is very clean and bright. Highly recommend. Cannot wait to return and order off the menu.
So good. When they say their vindaloo is hot, believe them. Love it.
Great food, nearly empty (due to polar vortex)... Found it strange that they decided to seat other patrons right next to us (no privacy!)
