Nakato 'Sushi Bar and Regular Dining' Japanese Restaurant
Enjoy the most traditional and authentic Japanese restaurant that Atlanta has to offer in our traditional dining room overlooking a majestic Japanese garden. In addition to Sushi and traditional Japanese dishes, we also offer highly entertaining and wonderfully prepared Hibachi on our Teppanyaki Grills.
"Chirashi" Bowl Sushi

Thinly sliced sirloin beef, tofu, konnyaku-yam noodles, and seasonal vegetables cooked in house made sukiyaki sauce
This restaurant is always wonderful. I really like it.
We had great and prompt service and the drinks and meal were really amazing. Waiter suggestions helped in drinks and appetizer selections.
First time visitors. Generally very good service, but slow. I assume like most restaurants these days they were just short on help. Food prices were okay, but drinks were very expensive. We didn't care for one dish and they took it off the bill without us asking.
A little noisy, but definitely would go back. They have a very interesting and varied menu which I think sets it apart from it's competition.
I've been dining here for 36+ years now and have never had anything less than an outstanding experience. Nakato is the best!
We had a wonderful dinner date last night. Great food and wonderful service. We cannot wait to go back
Incredible, especially the tuna flight! Atlanta gets a bad rap for seafood as it’s inland, but Nakato is a gem.
Very nice eating experience and the food was great, thanks.
We selected table dining. Service was somewhat slow. Food was ok. The scanned menu for table service was limited. I failed to ask waitress if we could order from Hibachi menu. First time dining here. I’ll try hibachi next time.
We love Nakato and we eat here at least once a month
Great place. A little pricey, but a great place for special occasions.
This was our first meal inside a restaurant since the pandemic began. We love Nakato and appreciate all the efforts they are making whilst we are still in the pandemic situation. The tables in the dining area were spaced apart. There were partitions between the tables. All the staff wore masks. While using the restroom one staff member was wiping everything down. The meal was delicious as always and the service was very professional.
It wasn't surprising compared to the price of food.
Every single recommendation our waitress gave us was excellent, making the personalized experience incredible!
When my friend and I arrived at this restaurant we were immediately impressed with the Japanese decor of the overall building and the small Japanese garden on the side of the building. As we stepped inside we noticed that on our right is the hibachi dining area while on the left side is the sushi and regular dining room. I am glad that we had made our reservation in advance as we were seated immediately at our table that has a view of the small garden after a quick temperature check by the hostess, where we were able to relax while waiting for our 2 other friends joining us for dinner.
There were 4 of us so we ordered the best items on the menu to share:
1. Wagyu beef ishiyaki style (grilled on heated hot stone) $90
2. Tokujo Sushi (premium sushi) $70/order [2 orders]
3. Fuji sashimi platter $47
4. Agedashi tofu $8
5. Chawan mushi $10
6. Soft shelled crab tempura $12
7. Ankimo ponzu $12
8. Negihama roll $8
9. Karaage (Japanese fried chicken nuggets)
10. Sake sampler of 3 premium sake
I worked and lived in Japan for about 2 years, during which I traveled throughout Japan (Honshu, Kyushu, Hokkaido, Shigoku, and some of the remote islands) to hike, sightsee, and taste the best local food. I know the Japanese culture, food, and language well. This is definitely one of the best and authentic Japanese sushi restaurants in our country, as the quality of the food was definitely top notch. I am very happy to have discovered this gem during my recent visit to Atlanta! I rarely give out 5 stars but Nakato definitely deserves it with its exceptional food quality and service.
Celebrated another anniversary, which has become an annual tradition at Nakato, where we have enjoyed dining for over 40 years. We are fortunate to have such an excellent Japanese restaurant in Atlanta!
The wait staff was great, great ambiance, and the food was pretty good. The sushi was amazingly fresh and beautifully presented. The teriyaki dishes could have more flavor.
Some of the best sushi in Atlanta. Excellent service, felt safe, and did a Japanese import fish flight. Soooo fresh!
Great service, impressive sushi quality
Relatives from San Francisco. Love the sushi. Best so far in Atlanta.
This week have eaten and several top rated restaurants and was really wanting sushi. They had one table available and we snagged it. I’ll be returning frequently. Service was excellent and sushi very fresh. The room was quiet, and in contrast to other restaurants this week, was a welcome respite.
Need better service especially when customers ask for check
The seafood miso soup is so good, and the sushi - amazing!
Some of the best Hibachi, Sushi, and traditional Japanese in Atlanta! Celebrating 50 years, one of the most consistent restaurants in Atlanta. Family run and of the highest quality!
It was very good. Will go back soon and enjoy the sushi again
Go here for fresh, traditional sushi. Incredible selection and talented sushi chefs. Can also order off of cooked menu.
A family owned local establishment with lovely service.
Mother’s Day dinner. Service was great. Food came out quickly. Quality of the food was excellent. Did miss the music that used to play inside the last time I visited. Needed some kind of background ambiance music. Overall it was a good evening out.
Anniversary. Love this place.
Great Japanese food. But a little expensive. I would go back and recommend my friends do the same.
Awesome food! Great service. Would definitely go back.
Nakato never fails to bring a smile. Shame there’s only 5stars to give. Our sever Gemma was awesome! It’s always our special night out go-to.
Mt wife and I enjoyed a wonderful experience on a quiet Monday evening. Our service was perfect, attentive and professional. We ordered sushi, primarily Nigiri, and were very impressed with the freshness, flavor and handling of the fish.
We enjoyed a bottle of Taittinger Chef du Cave Champagne with our meal, then each had an after-dinner cocktail with our dessert. The lavender cocktail my wife ordered was delicious--incredibly well balanced and nicely presented. I had a Maker's Old Fashioned, which was also delicious.
Thank you for a wonderful experience!
One of the best sushi places in town, never disappoints. Food is always great, service was attentive, server friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Will definitely come back for more.
We don't get the opportunity to dine out much anymore so this was a special occasion for us. We thought the restaurant was very nice, although we had a difficult time parking and ultimately used the valet. Also, our food arrived out of order due to a mix up, but it wasn't a big deal to us & they fixed the problem. They also accommodated us arriving earlier than expected which was very nice.
Great sushi. We love it.
Great as always best Sukiyaki ever
Nakato has always been a favorite. There are many sushi bars around Atlanta, but if are looking for an authentic experience, try Nakato.
Even the valet was exceptionally friendly.
Again, I had a great food and wonderful service with my friends. At this point I have nothing to say to improve anything.
Food was OK. I know the attraction is that some of the fish and beef are flown in from Japan and I know that there’s a price to pay for that, which is why some of the meals were so expensive. $70 for a large dish of sashimi and raw fish. Call me a peasant, but raw fish tastes like raw fish no matter where it’s caught. That fish could have been caught off the east or west coast of America and I wouldn’t have known the difference.
I like okonomiyaki and I was pleased to see they have it on the menu but I found the brown sauce that they put on it tasted very strong, and I mean strong as if you had made a cup of soup with bouillon cubes and did not put enough water in it. That type of strong. I found it a little distracting. Haru Ichiban has a better tasting and larger okonomiyaki as far as I’m concerned.
Noise level was a little loud, but nothing the restaurant could have done about it, because some people just insist on bringing their crying one your olds to a place like that and not caring about them disturbing the other customers around them. So I say to the customers that have children, leave your small kids at home! If I want to hear crying kids, I’ll go to Walmart!
When I made my reservations online, I tried to find out about parking on their website and unless I missed it I didn’t see anything about it and was surprised that when I pulled up it was valet parking. Had I known, I would have left some of my valuables I had in the car (laptop, etc...) at home. I think the restaurant should advertise valet parking. But I complement them for it being free. I don’t have a problem with valet parking, I just I think people would like to know ahead of time.
Overall, a good experience, and although a lot of the meals are very reasonably priced, if you plan on getting the food that is imported from Japan, you better bring a lot of money because it’s very very expensive!
Everything was delicious and the staff was very accommodating.
