N To Tail
Korean BBQ is a fun interactive way to experience Korean Cuisine. On the Korean BBQ level, there is a raw kitchen which provides a wide variety of marinated meat and vegetables. They are then brought to your table raw where your server will teach you the Korean BBQ grilling process. Each table has a grill built into the center to cook your selections on. The best part? Your food never comes out cold since you can eat right off the grill!
We are now offering Korean fusion on the top floor of our restaurant. By now I’m sure everyone knows how awesome Korean BBQ is. Now we are so happy to say that you can come in and enjoy some Korean food without having to cook it your self!
Overall meh. The service was way too slow. Server was attentive at first and very kind, but seemed “in the weeds” when it was seemingly slow. Had to remind her a few times of things we ordered and hadn’t yet received. Empty cocktails, wine, Empty water glasses too often. Apps were great, KFC Bao, Spicy fried chicken, dumplings, edamame, seaweed salad. Bbq items were just okay. Veggies had 0 seasoning, just raw veggies. 👎 We waited on the rice and Ssam for way way too long. Had the meat and veggies long before. So it wasn’t a cohesive meal. Accompaniments were much too small to actually be shared between the 2-3 people it recommended. We’d try upstairs if we ever decide to go back. But not downstairs again, now do we feel the need to go again.
We went during the week and it was very quiet but according to the staff, its quite busy on weekends. I can tell this will be a great Saturday night out experience; authentic Korean BBQ with a nice presentation. Food quality appeared very high and the staff was friendly. Only complaints is are the price and speed of service. The bill for 2 people was about 140 (for one of the BBQ platters). Also the service was very slow.
Poor service, food was underspiced and really quite bland. Music was very loud, making conversation difficult.
Great food great service!
This new Korean BBQ (served downstairs on your own grill) restaurant serves delicious food! Service was great, drinks very yummy. Pork belly and fried eggplant appetizer are musts!! We have already made another reservation!
Raw tuna was outstanding and the spicy chicken Bao buns were to die for! The bibim bam bowl was boring in comparison to the rest of our meal. Initial table service was quite slow but I think the server didn't have any bar support. The draft from the door in our section was chilly every time it opened. Overall very impressed with the food and will definitely come back!
Service was very slow. The food was high quality and very good.
Took an hour to get drinks, yes a solid hour. Issue was the drinks for sent to the wrong table, those people ended up with free drinks which was annoying. Open kitchen concept is cool but not when you see the Chef handling three different kinds of meat then tossing salads by hand.
The food was phenomenal but the service was extremely slow. We waited 25 minutes to get our drink orders in and another hour to get our food order in. We waited almost 2 hours all in all to receive our apps and main dishes.
The friend chicken mashed potato balls were amazing! Great, authentic Korean cuisine. Would recommend the upstairs restaurant as well as downstairs which has bbq style where you cook your food in front of you.
The server and food was great but we ordered 6 small plates and it took over 2.5 hours for it all to come out. It seemed like there were only two cooks for the whole restaurant. It wasn’t a full house so not sure if they had employees out sick or if it was poorly staffed. I’ll go back one more time but if it’s slow to get food I won’t go back again.
We had a wonderful time and will be frequenting this restaurant with friends. The food was great, servers very pleasant and the BBQ area is really really fun.
I suggest they figure out a way to deal with cold temperatures in the BBQ seating area. It is downstairs and to make it easy to find they leave the door open to the entryway. I found it a bit cold, but if they closed door it would make the temp much better.
One server made it a loathsome wait for anything and everything, it was pretty awful that the owner would make one person try to take every order and to watch her scramble to get everyones order was frustrating. She herself was very good but overwhelmed with being the only person on the floor. Our food took so long that we got our appetizers with our meal. Our meals were very bland, nothing special about anything we ordered. The soup was hot water with no seasoning, Noodles were overcooked, and the 4 tiny dumplings I got were not worth the overall price. This is a place I'll never come back too, and hopefully the owners stop making their servers try to satisfy everyone by themselves.
We have been going here since they first opened. Food has gotten better and better each time. The owner is friendly and always makes it a point to say hello to us. Great place for date night, business meal or a Friday night. Service is a little slow but everything else is great.
This was our first experience with Korean BBQ, great intro. Waiter was super helpful, explained all the dishes and how to eat them. Food was delicious. Highly recommend trying this during your visit to Portland!
As first timers, we wished our server had given us more instruction as we smoked out our table at one point putting meats in the middle of the bbq. We also went long amounts of time between seeing her and getting things delivered. Downstairs was a little cold feeling and uncomfortable ambiance wise. For the amount being spent, we expected a little more of an experience service/ambiance wise. During our dinner there was an extremely loud party at the hibachi in the back and the hibachi chef was being incredibly loud as well. Don’t let this review stop you from going in because it is a really fun date night and the food is delicious. Definitely something fun to do when visiting Portland but personally wouldn’t go again due to service, high price and atmosphere downstairs.
We were at the bar for dinner early NYE. Drinks were great and the food even better! Friendly staff. We’ve been before and will definitely be back!
I am pretty frugal with my stars, so my reading reflects a really wonderful time. We had an early dinner here on New Year’s Eve, sitting along the window in high bar chairs, watching the beautifully lighted exchange Street on a lovely winter evening. Long story short, our service by the bartender was extraordinary. His suggestions were right on, his sense of humor delightful and his attentiveness measured perfectly. Now the food. Where to start. How about with the fried chicken. Oh. My. God. Crunchy, spicy, sweet, tart, I could’ve eaten it all night. The fried squid was again, crunchy with no greasiness, beautifully seasoned and some of the best I’ve ever had. Delectable pork dumplings. And the cabbage pancake really surprised us. I seriously could eat that for breakfast or lunch every single day. We shared a Bibim Bap beef bowl Which out of everything we tried, and we tried a lot, was probably the least memorable but still delicious.
Run, do not walk, to this restaurant. You will not be disappointed. We will be there again and again.
Apparently it was out very sweet waitress’s first night. Unfortunately she wasn’t well prepared. We were new to this and didn’t get a good explanation of how the BBQ works. Everyone felt the sides that come with the shared meals were not sufficient for the stated size of the share. And while the meats were tasty, we all left a bit hungry given the price, which was roughly $60/person with drinks. The owners and particularly their lovely son were helpful and attentive, but it just wasn’t the kind of experience we’d do again.
This is a great little spot! We went downstairs for the Korean BBQ and the quality of the food was great. Was our first experience of Korean BBQ and we were not dissapointed, will be back for sure
We love N to Tail! We got bibimbap and dumplings and both were delicious. Fun cocktails too!
The food was ok but the atmosphere and tecno music really killed the experience.
Great, very aesthetic place with great food and nice waitstaff. Korean bbq plate is a must have!
Great fun, and great way to visit with friends while cooking. Got to eat the scallops- yum. Suggest a wider variety of little plates that go with the meal.
They didn’t seem to know about our Open Table reservation. We were seated and then ignored for ten minutes, while we watched them ignore another couple waiting to be seated. Little did we realize that the other couple would get food a half hour before ours appeared! All this time there were three un-bussed tables near us. We commented on the nearly hour delay to get food and were comp-ed two appetizers. Then they charged us twice for one of the entrees. It took two tries to get the bill right. The food was okay but nothing too be excited about. I have never written a bad review before and we dine out frequently in Portland. Not going back to this place.
I'll be doing a vocal text so please excuse any misspellings. The food was excellent really top-drawer. The Korean pancake was the best I've ever had anywhere.the fried Chicken chunks were excellent sweet and crispy just the right amount of space. The kalbi beef was excellent. The bibimbap was an excellent choice as well.overall this has to rate as one of the best Korean restaurants I've ever been to.it's nice to see a Korean restaurant that just doesn't eventually turn into a sushi restaurant like so many I've seen in the past.these people are trying to keep it original and that's just the way I like it.Excellent restaurant and I hope others give it a try for authentic Korean food.
We sat at the bar. It took 45 mins for an appetizer and then explained that there was only 1 person in the kitchen (which could have been helpful to know in advance). Luckily I was with good company and we weren’t in a rush but the people next to us left before they got their food.
Took an hour to get our drinks, another hour for food...way overpriced. I got the spring grain bowl $16 for a lot of fluff...drink was good but was snatched before I could finish it. Unimpressed won’t be back.
The Korean fried chicken is to die for. The eggplant, dumplings, and pork ssam are also highly recommended. Great cocktails, too.
I lived in Korea for a year over 15 years ago. N to Tail brought me back. Although I didn't order it, my husband's Bibimbap was amazing. My braised short rib was perfection. My oldest's KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) was excellent. My youngest's "black bean" noodles & mandu were tasty. We left dinner properly stuffed and satisfied. We'll definitely be back!
Anniversary dinner with my wife. Rainy Thursday evening, very few fellow diners. Sat at the bar, and had amazing service from our bartender, who also was an opera singer originally from Japan. He was amazingly helpful, as we navigated the small plates from the fusion menu. Everything, everything, was delicious - favorites were fried chicken, eggplant, and toro sushi. Also did a Sake tasting, which was excellent. Spent about two hours, never rushed, very pleasant. Such an excellent evening.
We sat at the bar and Hide the bartender was entertaining and engaging. The Butcher Board and the Korean Fried Chicken were delicious.
Great food and very friendly staff. Loved everything!!
I like Korean food so that was not the issue. The food here was just not very good. Heavy on rice with little protein to go along.
We were super bummed - I had heard great things and was excited to have the chef's experience upstairs in the dining (v. the bbq downstairs). When we arrived there was only 1 other table seated. 2 of the ppl at our table shared hot sake, one person had a soda and I had a cocktail. No only was I never asked for a refill for my cocktail, but my water was empty for the remainder of the meal.
We had the dumplings and the butcher board for an app...there were 3 items on the butcher board...it was not until it was brought to our table that we were told one of the items was replaced with something else. The dumplings were the highlight of the meal.
We all had the Bi Bim Bop, on recommendation from a friend. Between all of us, we tried the steak, pork & chicken. I found the pork belly to have an off taste, and there was very little chicken. The only condiment served with the meal was cojichang (sp?). We asked for kimchi, which we were charged extra for, and apparently it came with raw oysters in it, which was an unpleasant surprise.
Overall, the waitress was very nice, but the restaurant was not busy and I felt we were not well informed nor well taken care of.
I'm sorry, I hate to give a poor review, but we get a babysitter maybe twice a year, and this was one of those times, and I had family visiting from out of state and wanted them to have a real Portland treat. I was really disappointed.
