MXDC Ratings and Reviews
What a nice surprise. I have been walking by this restaurant for three years and never went in. The lunch menu was just the right size: not too many choices, not too few either. I ordered three different tacos for ($12) . Each was delicious and nuanced. The waiter was very friendly, efficient but not overbearing. Unfortunately, we did not try any of the alcohol offerings.
My only complaint is the incredibly high noise level. Our "table neighbors" were the first to complain about it and THEY were the loudest! Only because of that, I will hesitate to return... or arrive at around 1:30 p.m.
Servers were all very friendly. We lucked out with a booth in the corner or it would have been difficult to have a conversation. Loud. The food was tasty, decent selection. We had the octopus ceviche which was way more onion than octopus, but still delicious. I had two white sangrias which would normally knock me off my feet. I didn't really taste the wine at all...
The food was great. We had paella for two. Very tasty, not too spicy, plentiful serving with lots of food leftover. The only drawback was that it was so noisy that my date and I had difficulty hearing each other. Not at all suitable for a quiet, intimate date but but great for a quick bite on the way to National theater. Very tasty food and very good service...very little wait for the food. All in all, a good time that we will repeat in the future!
This meal was a let down. I've gone before and always had the tacos, which I remembered being very good. This time I tried the enchiladas and they brought the wrong dish to start (though quickly swapped), my food was only luke-warm, and quite mediocre. Given the prices, I expect some combination of better quality or larger serving. It's also too loud to have a business meal with more than 2 people.
Bar area is small, but nice. Overall good food. Somewhat disappointed with the quality - expected an A+ experience in terms of taste, etc. (note, my parents are Mexican and I have traveled throughout Mexico a lot...so I know Mexican food well). It wasn't bad - but wasn't as good as I expected from a higher end restaurant.
Food was mediocre to good but service was subpar. After delivering the food no one came by again until we were ready for the check. No one asked us if we needed anything (I would have liked some hot sauce) and no one asked us how the food was. When we left, we passed by four employees who appeared to be immersed in their own conversation, none of whom said anything to us as we exited. Nice sophisticated atmosphere with subpar service.
We selected to come here before an evening at the Warner Theater and we are so glad that we did. The portions of food were perfect as you never want to be stuffed before sitting in a show for 2 hours. We had a couple of drinks, split and appetizer ( shrimp ceviche) and each had a main course. We were both very impressed with the meal and though full were not uncomfortably so. The hand made tortillas were like air....very light. All in all a delightful evening for a very reasonable price.
Way. Too. LOUD! Hubby and I were at a small table and we couldn't hear each other without literally shouting. Place was busy, and I felt very much just like a number at a table; waiter seated me then never returned to see if I wanted to order an appetizer while I waited. With the numbers of people it was impossible to flag him down.
Disappointingly somewhat dumbed-down Mexican food, rushed service, crowded tables, noisy room, but a very good margarita. The wine was also good, but a very small pour for $9. We had three different tacos: the mahi mahi was excellent, the chicken was meh, and the carne asada was lousy. The quesadilla was good, although, served on a single tortilla, it was more like a pizza than a quesadilla.
The restaurant is very loud and you are seated on top of each other. Our table was half in the wait station. I could actually see the numeric password each server was in putting into their computer system to enter orders. The food was good but expensive for what you get. We started with the guacamole and it was sort of bland and we got maybe 3/4 of a cup of it for $11. The blackberry margarita was awesome but again expensive. If you plan to drink more then 2 between you and other person you are with, just buy a pitcher. The pitcher is expensive but you get around 5.5 margaritas out of it and it's slightly cheaper then paying $12-$14 per drink. Overall I would not go back for a meal but possibly for a margarita as that was the best part. The service was pretty slow as far as taking our orders but she was very nice. The thing that got me was when asked which item between 2 she would recommend she said I don't know I've never tried either. I guess I believe the wait staff should at least have tried most dishes so they can offer some perspective.
The food was not bad. It was not good, but it was not bad. The service was competent, but joyless, rushed and disinterested. Felt like a Todd English Incorporated production. Sort of appeared creative, but it wasn't. At least the prices were very reasonable.
This was our third visit here, and it's gone downhill. My food was mediocre and not particularly warm. Service started out good but abruptly deteriorated as soon as the meal arrived. And, after that, there was some shenanigans with the bill which included a service charged automatically added and computed on top of tax (who does that), plus an inflation of the number of members in our party (count the heads and entrees, guys). Got to be better fake Mexican places to go and we're going to find them now.
Lobster, crab and shrimp quesadillas were amazing. So were the mushroom and corn truffle tacos. The Paloma was made with in-house grapefruit soda which gave it a super fresh taste. We were really excited to share the vegetarian Chile relleno but we’d skip it next time. Ambiance is very loud so it’d be great for happy hour and big groups.
