MXDC Ratings and Reviews
Overall MXDC was a good option. We selected this place for a valentines night dinner and ended up being overall satisfied. We selected from the valentines menu and got the paella to split. It’s was slightly more dry thank expected but good flavors nonetheless.
My boyfriend uses a wheelchair. The dining room is down three steps. After letting them know we had arrived for our reservation, we were led back outside, down to a separate door through a hall to the back door of the kitchen where we wound through the kitchen area to the dining room. Seriously??!!! This is 2017. The building was remodeled in the last few years and it is not reasonably accessible. I typically take my money elsewhere on principle but didn’t want to make a fuss on Valentines Day.
And we did not know dinner was only offered as a pre fixe. Over priced and nothing special. Servers were kind and attentive, but we won’t be back.
Food came out in under 5min when we ordered, it was clearly sitting in the back pre-made and just tossed together. Quality was mediocre at best, certainly not up to the typical standards of a Todd English restaurant. Honestly I didn't have super high expectations going in, and even those were not met. So many better places you could go for Mexican in DC. AVOID
Interesting, diverse, fresh and inventive menu, and wonderful margarita's made for a nice dining experience. The restaurant has a great vibe and the staff were great at checking in with us, etc. Opportunities for improvement: The price point is a bit steep. More than $10.00 for a one avocado sized helping of guacamole is too much (though in their defense it was very, very fresh). The kitchen was also overwhelmed with a large number of pre-theater diners (our group of four included). Given that the National Theater has the restaurant at the top of their recommended dining establishments, AND a Broadway Smash was playing, management should have really known and anticipated the surge. For us, it meant unnecessary long delays in receiving our food. Overall, the place has promise....especially for those seeking a different (and improved) type of Mexican cuisine experience.
This was a great place to eat before the show at The National Theater. It was in walking distance. We had a reservation for 5:45 and were seated immediately upon arrival. The restaurant really got packed while we were there. The pace of the meal was very good. The food had very good flavors. The margaritas (we got the cadillac) were just right. We definitely will go back.
Somehow I thought it would be...better? Or more Mexican maybe. I don't know. It was good, but I never need to go back. It struck me as oddly unmemorable. And the beer list was not good. There is no reason anymore for any restaurant, let alone nice ones, to not have a great beer list.
Just when you think you have tried all versions of Mexican Food, here comes MXDC. I enjoyed the creative style. The flavors were amazing and the cost was great! A bit cramped (tables were too close together) but I understand trying to maximize seating and lighting was a bit too bright for my liking. But overall, I enjoyed it. I would go back. Perfect place to eat before a show!
The ambiance is great for dates and get together with colleagues. The noise level of the restaurant was quite loud during lunch on the lower level. I switched mine upstairs to the high tables where it was easier to hear my colleague. Great food and service. The food wasn't stellar, but the service was great.
MXDC is a great spot for happy hour! It has all the pizzaz you expect of an urban DC bar. Variety of seating options and a nice bar to look at, if that's your preference. Food and drink specials are reasonably priced for happy hour and they even have happy hour twice in Saturdays. Service was good, but inconsistent. Possibly bc I was a small party, but I never knew who my waiter/waitress was. The is upside is multiple ppl checked on my party and anyone who was asked for assistance was able to provide it. The food was good, but it did not come out hot even though there wasn't many people there. I had a margarita that was quite tasty and strong enough to count as a double.
Overall, I would definitely go back and I recommend it to others.
Everything we tasted was delicious. Both my wife and I loved the Jicama Salad. The staff could stand to be a bit more social, but don’t take it as them being rude, just saturated. Some of the drinks had a strange aftertaste. I’m being very picky. I just wanted to be as specific as possible. You have to try this place if you’re seeking Mexican Cuisine. They even have Molé!
Looking for upscale Mexican without upscale pricing than MXDC fits the bill. The menu has something for everyone and every selection was delicious . The Branzino and Salmon were prepared with beautiful and tasty seasonings. the individually prepared guac was fresh and very tasty. Traditional Mexican dishes like tamales and tacos were also perfect. The service was attentive and fast. Great food, Great service = great time.
This was my second visit, but my first at dinner. Really enjoyed the jicama salad and the hongo (mushroom) tacos. Was a bit loud, and tables are a bit close, but was a lively atmosphere and expected it from prior reviews. Arrived at reservation time and told they might need a few minutes as someone was just leaving. Took just a few minutes as promised. Service was helpful, with an offer to answer any questions about the menu. My water glass was refilled multiple times. Food arrived at a nice pace and was quite tasty. Overall, it was a nice meal at a nice place. I'd definitely return.
We were pleasantly surprised with the restaurant. It is located a few short blocks to the National Theater so it is an ideal location for a pre-show meal. The food was spectacular particularly the Huegos & the churros for dessert. Chicken enchilada was simply divine. We’ll definitely come back the next time we see a show or come to downtown DC.
We were in town for a night and found MXDC through OpenTable and it did not disappoint. The food and sangria was delicious! Highly recommend the Pollo Enchiladas and Carne A La Padilla. The 3 variety tasting option for the tacos is also a great way to taste the delicious flavours of tacos MXDC has to offer.
While we enjoyed the drinks, the food was truly tiny portions for the prices. I also thought everything was sweet, which was strange given that I got tacos. Unfortunately, we also were seated on the balcony area, which only had one waitress and one bartender, and they were overwhelmed. Overall we enjoyed for a special occasion, but I don't have any need to return.
What a nice surprise. I have been walking by this restaurant for three years and never went in. The lunch menu was just the right size: not too many choices, not too few either. I ordered three different tacos for ($12) . Each was delicious and nuanced. The waiter was very friendly, efficient but not overbearing. Unfortunately, we did not try any of the alcohol offerings.
My only complaint is the incredibly high noise level. Our "table neighbors" were the first to complain about it and THEY were the loudest! Only because of that, I will hesitate to return... or arrive at around 1:30 p.m.
Servers were all very friendly. We lucked out with a booth in the corner or it would have been difficult to have a conversation. Loud. The food was tasty, decent selection. We had the octopus ceviche which was way more onion than octopus, but still delicious. I had two white sangrias which would normally knock me off my feet. I didn't really taste the wine at all...
