Our bar area is the perfect space for a happy hour with extensive cocktail and tequila menus.
The decor and ambiance makes MXDC the perfect destination for a romantic evening, a family dinner or to host your next private or corporate event.
Created by Todd English, MXDC's menu includes small plates, entrees, and family-style dishes. The menu offers traditional foods from various regions throughout Mexico. Taco options include Pork Belly; beer-battered Mahi Mahi; and Carne Asada. Other favorites include the Seven-Chile Lamb Shank, Tortilla Soup and our open-faced quesadillas.
MXDC is a great upscale Mexican Restaurant in the DC area. It is a great lunch spot. I do wish the tables were slightly farther apart, as the noise level can get high during lunch, making it harder to have conversations with other guests at the table.
Food was average and prices high. The service is not great - the waiter refused to write separate bills for our part (he said they do not do it as mxdc) - this is contrary to every other restaurant I have been at in the USA. Plus, my credit card bill showed up with a higher tip than I gave (disputing it now). Not happy with the waiter.
Great place but much crowded and LOUD! Food was very delicious as were the margaritas 🤗!
Booked the table that day and was glad we did because it was busy. Slight wait to sit down because our table wasn’t leaving but eventually got seated.
Incredibly fast and efficient service as we said we were headed to a show. Helpful staff.
Delicious food, consistent with past visits.
Packed restaurant with a big party in the bar. However, service was still excellent and the food was delicious. This is becoming our go-to before theatre shows.
Decent. Fast. Menu is limited.
Fantastic ambiance and food. I absolutely loved everything.
Always love guacamole , it was good but considering the cost there should have been way more. Margaritas were just ok. Dinner was good but pricy.
This was our first time there and we were very pleased. It was national margarita day so they were priced down and so delicious! It's a busy place with a lot of energy - the food is worth the hustle. Try the jicama salad and Mahi Mahi tacos. The ceviche is unique but pieces are small for what you pay. Queso fundito is a table pleaser!
The food and drinks were terrific, but it was SO LOUD, even upstairs, that we won’t go again in the evening. Maybe at off-hours.
We were sat near the bar and it was expressly loud with the people that were standing there.
Preshow dinner before heading to Warner Theatre. Great location, easy to walk to, paella was awesome- highly recommend!
A group of four foodies, high expectations, very disappointed with food quality. Margaritas were excellent. Worst queso fundido we've ever had. Ever.
Love this restaurant, but prix fixe menu was a bit ridiculous, not price wise but selection wise. I was told I couldn’t substitute mashed potatoes with corn. No corn at a Mexican resto? Disappointing that they couldn’t make a basic substitution, especially given how common food allergies are and now preferences differ.
Overpriced food that was not that exciting. Service was slow and made us late for our Valentine's day show even though we asked them to be sensitive to our need to leave fast. For the price we paid I was expecting something better. The ambience was nice and not crowded.
Effective, efficient, and cost effective for a tasty meal. Great value
Everything was great! Loved the ceviche and interesting guacamole. Service was friendly and helpful in navigating the diverse menu. Definitely will return when in the DC area!
Server was attentive and cordial. She answered questions and gave good recommendations. Our food arrived promptly and was very good. It was a bit loud, but happy hour was taking place in the bar area and it was packed. We had a great dinner experience.
Food was lukewarm at best. Guacamole was essentially smashed avocado, no spices. Wait service almost non existent.
The cochinita pibil is to die for! I would like a bubble to sit in and eat my tacos and lick my plate. Service is always top notch here.
Great food and drinks. Only negative was that it was very, very loud.
It was fine. The food took forever though! Guac was delicious.
Overall our dinner was really good. We were disappointed though, when we were seated in the back corner right up against the cash register with the bright fluorescent lights shining down. I know they are trying to pack as many people in but we had reservations in advance and it took away from the ambiance. Chips weren’t very fresh. But the margaritas and tacos were awesome!
I will not be recommending mxdc to my friends. The waiter was inattentive - i had to call him over multipe times. He never checked in to see how we were doing or if we needed a refill on cocktails. The guacamole was ridiculously -- a very unimpressive display and minuscule quanity on a plain plate. Definitely not worth the price. I don't recommend this place at all and will discourage friends from dining here.
I'd give the restaurant 5 stars, except it would have been awesome if they offered a complimentary basket of chips/salsa like so many restaurants, rather than having to order a ceviche or gauc appetizer, especially when you bring a few kids, who aren't always adventurous. The drinks were a tad pricey, but overall the food was tasty and the staff was pleasant.
It was good! Service was incredibly fast and the food was good. I would definitely go back!
One of my favs in dc.
Tough luck....Best part- service was great. Guacamole was excellent but why charge so much for it? Beans were also authentic black not refried but $5?? And I ordered the three taco entree with all Casada. Big mistake as beef was tough with large veins of grizzle. Yuk. Had two Margueritas and bill came to $60. Maybe I’m just a food snob from NYC but I wouldn’t recommend or return.
Met a friend for dinner. Arrived early and had a drink at the bar. Great service, the sangria Blanca hit the spot. Moved to the downstairs dining area. It was quiet and great for conversation. The food was great, except for the churros, which were greasy and did not rise over the level of State Fair fare. The guacamole was tasty and the tacos were incentive and light. We had the cauliflower, mushrooms, carne, shrimp, short rib, and mahi mahi, but all very tasty. Service was stellar and of the level you would see in New Orleans. Had a great time. Thanks.
The paella was the best I’ve had in DC. It was absolutely delicious. Everyone else at the table seemed to enjoy their food as well - we got the churros for desert and they were the perfect small bite of something sweet. The drinks were not good. I ordered a strawberry mojito and then a pineapple one. They were so strong and not sweet or sparkling at all. In a good mojito you can just taste the alcohol a bit - in these, it was all I could taste even after asking the waitress to ask the bartenders to make my next one less strong. Service was pretty good but drinks were really slow. So... I think the bar needs new employees of some adjustments. Overall great experience - I recommend!
Food was great. Service was excellent. Very much enjoyed our meal at MXDC. We will be back again.
Great food and service
Excellent service and food! Thank you very much for your hospitality.
The chips and dips were the highlight... And good thing--it took another hour before they even came by to take our entree order. Mediocre cocktails. The kitchen staff deserves better. MXDC has good food, but the portions are a tad miserly for what's being provided. For example, it looks like each order of guacamole incorporates only one avocado. Service is jarringly bad. They may have been short staffed the night we were there--we were certainly served like it. We had to waive down a server for drinks, entrees, and the check.
I went for the first time for lunch and had a very good meal. While it was Restaurant Week and we did choose the special menu, our portions were hearty and the food was excellent - just really good. I would not hesitate to go back here!
Excellent food and very friendly service. A bit loud so somewhat difficult to converse.
Tried to order in way that met dietary restrictions, but try as they might the meal was not very good. Also forgot the drink I ordered. It was also very noisy at lunch. There are not many mid-range options in this part of downtown, so it’s passable at best.
The branzino was fantastic if pricey for the portion size
Came here for restaurant week lunch. Very good guacamole, branzino, and my favorite dessert, flan - a very good one too, super creamy. Good street view sitting at bar level, dining room in sunken area with no views.
Tacos were very delicious and food service was quick! However, after our food was delivered, we didn’t see our waiter for a long time & we wanted more drinks and ultimately, our check. Sat around for at least 20 minutes after plates were cleared with no one checking on our table.
