MW Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
This was our second visit to MW--and we were not disappointed. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the items on the menu and the whole staff were friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. The restaurant is a little challenging to find--the address is Kapiolani, but it's in the middle of the block and the entrance is actually in the back--it's easy to miss, especially after dark. Nevertheless, it's a real gem and one of our "must dos" when we are in Honolulu!
A nice, casual, and relaxed ambiance. Awesome non-alcoholic cocktails. Very creating food display and food fusion style of cooking. However 50% of pot roast pork served was fat! King Salmon was excellent, but the sauce it was on was very salty! Pan fried mochiko fish was yummy.
Would return to try other menu items.
Birthday. Customized gift was a plus. Returned because of gift card. Enjoyed service levels! Will remember the dish we had. Hadn’t been back in a while. Will enjoy a return visit soon. Rib eye was fantastic and the affogato was an enjoyable adventure.
Our food server’s attention and care in addition to his colleagues assistance were the big takeaway for us.
Job well done!
From start to finish, it was perfect. I wanted to surprise my boyfriend for our anniversary, because this is his favorite restaurant. And they went above and beyond my expectations. Everything I wanted they provided and then some. I live in FL and I cant wait to come back and create more memories. LOVE this place.
The customer service is 100%. My husband and I agreed that this is the best customer service we ever had. We never needed to ask for a refill on our drinks, there’s no complaints, the food is phenomenal, and our waiter was awesome. There are a lot of restaurants who get annoyed when you have a gift card but our waiter still gave us 100% customer service. Our waiter’s name is Giorgio. We will definitely come back again.
We have been at MW before, but this time we were there for the special family style Thanksgiving dinner. The organic turkey and stuffing were very moist, and so tasty. It was obvious that this was not just an ordinary meal, but one by a creative an innovative chef. The accompaniments of the corn, and the seafood chowder were so comforting and delicious. Their creative take on pork and beans took this simple dish to a higher lever (pork cassoulet). They are also known for their deconstructed desserts and the banana cream pie and version of several pie flavors in one dessert was outstanding. This restaurant is unique, fun and a great place to eat....
The food was absolutely amazing. My mom and I were interested in going to a nice dinner during restaurant week, and after surveying options, we thought MW would be a good choice. I'm so glad we did, because everything from the food to the service was spectacular. My mom ordered the ribeye, and the combination of flavors from the ponzu, the daikon, and the meat itself was to die for. I had the crab-crusted monchong, and the flavors from the scallop gravy reminded me of the flavors I had only come across on my travels to Hokkaido. Michelle is truly an outstanding chef, and I anxiously await coming back here for other special occasions in the future.
I really recommend this restaurant! I cannot believe I live nearby it for almost 3 years and never visited before.
I had dinner with my husband here for a date night and we were surprised by how nice our experience was.
I don’t remember her name, but our server was very friendly and professional, and was always checking if the food was ok to our taste. The manager was also friendly and presented himself as soon we arrived in case we needed something.
The food is just amazing, it is in my opinion a very creative mix of Hawaiian and Asian food!
We had the kampachi ceviche to start, and the steamed Onaga as entree, since Onaga is my favorite fish, and for dessert we had the Lilikoi creme brulee, and cocktails. I recommend all and would return for those again, and also to try other items of the menu.
This is a special place especially during Restaurant Week. The food is outstanding! We were there for lunch and it was wonderful. The hostess is excellent and starts you out with a smile on your face. So personable and efficient.
The waiter was friendly but wouldn't explain the dishes. This was especially frustrating as there were several that sounded interesting. He could have decided we were going to get the RW menu so why bother??
We look forward to returning soon for the amazing food!
This restaurant is one of my wife and favorite go-to restaurants. We wanted to try their restaurants weeks menu. Unfortunately my wife dish was not prepared well. The center of the mochi crusted onaga (instead of kampachi because they ran out) was still raw. Waiter noticed and ordered another one; the second round was still raw. We didn't want the dish to go back again and have them cook up another dish, so we decided to eat half of it. My dish was good but but overall ambiance and service was excellent.
This was my first time to MW and I was pleased. We were greeted nicely and were seated promptly. Food presentation was "wow!" and it tasted great, too. (I had the pre-fixe meal.) Our server and his assistant were friendly, professional, and attentive.
My only complaint is the tiny bugs that swarmed our table during the entire meal. They didn't bite or anything but we had to constantly shoo them away, fearing they'd fall into our food or drink.
We had the butterfish. Why one would batter, albeit light batter, butterfish is a puzzle. It became tasteless. The serving was basically just the tail with a very very small filet (deep fried/again, tasteless). The crunchy consistency of the vegetables and, as well, the flavors (taste, scent) were just wrong with the butterfish. This restaurant has difficulty blending flavors and in trying to be creative can't seem to get it right. (On that note, please do not mix kimchee with your potato salad.)
For the hassle of parking ($5 valet + tip), with that type of food experience, the restaurant will be hard-pressed to have return customers.
I am rooting for this restaurant to succeed, but the food has to improve.
What a shame the bright and cold ambiance doesn’t match the sophisticated food. Hire an interior designer and make the place more cozy and/or sexy. It feels like a cafeteria.
With that said, the food, particularly the desserts are very good. A bit fussy but high quality. The server was gregarious but tried too hard to be funny and prove his chops in terms of food and wine knowledge.
Overall, a good experience. With a few tweaks it could be excellent.
Wade and Michelle run an incredibly fun and innovative restaurant. Service is excellent and food is wonderful. Recently experienced our 28th wedding anniversary there and I often take business clients to MW for lunch. Every time, without fail, our experience is top-notch.
