Mussel Bar & Grille - Bethesda
We serve incomparably fresh fish and seafood from around the region and the world, including the best mussels in the region — and the beauty is you don’t have to make it an occasion to dine with us!
Because our volume is so high, and because of the buying power that comes when a prominent chef owns multiple, acclaimed restaurants, we’re able to keep our prices low — making Mussel Bar Bethesda a destination where you can go gourmet every day.
Join us daily for happy hour, oysters, great specials, and our selection of — count ’ em — nearly 160 beers (including the fineest Belgians in the world). Check out our Facebook page for our wildly popular Oyster Fests and pig roasts.

All the food was bad
The mussels were great as well as the salmon burger and oysters. Large selection of beer and wine. The service was great and although we were not there at the right time of day, their happy hour specials looked awesome!
The food is great - the noise is deafening. You go to a restaurant with friends to hear them talk, and at this place you should learn sign language instead. While the industrial vibes are trendy right now, they can make dining out a pretty miserable experience. Food and service are great - if you can read lips.
Great fun to sit at the bar, indulge in wonderful mussels and chat
Our go to place for the buzz, beer and the vibe. Food not bad too.
Not all dishes created equal. The grilled squid had an odd flavor, and seemed less than fresh. The mussels with mushrooms and bacon was excellent. The mushroom pizza was very nice as well, although cheese was not applied in a uniform manner so that some slices had barely any cheese, while one slice was overloaded with cheese.
MB&G flooring at the table were sitting was quite dirty, it as obivous a family with children were the previous guests, food, crayons and napkins were under the table, as well as, all over the floor. I asked the waiter to clean the mess, but he was to busy to do so.
Liked our meal and server v much. Table was too small and room was v loud, but overall pleasant experience. Will return.
We enjoyed our meal, despite screaming fans watching the Nats game, and rather aggressive wine prices.
Always very good food! Service is sometimes very good, sometimes ( on 10/11) pretty poor. It all depends on the waiter! Ambiance is great to go out with friends
A loud restaurant with good food and POOR service. Our visit was pretty much a disaster. We were served the wrong wine but didn't know until the bottle had been opened by our server. We had asked for a rose which I glimpsed as he was opening it. It turned out to be sparkling rose. We had to ask three different staff members for bread. We were so unhappy that we skipped dessert and coffee just to get out of there. Oh, and did I mention that it's extremely loud in there. There is little to no softscape to absorb the sound.
I would recommend the mussels and the crab dip. The lobster roll entree was ok. I just didn't think it was that good compared to others that I've had. The green salad was wimpy and overdressed, the fries were greasy and the lobster roll was ok.
Mussel Bar is by far my favorite restaurant in MoCo. Best food and drinks ever. Regular and the bacon mussels are outstanding. Steak and frites are a;so fabulous. Highly recommended
We had a wonderful evening eating outside. Great food and great service! Always a great option. My grandmother loved the oysters and the mussels. We are thankful for your attention to detail and the quality that was served
Roxy did a great job serving us. Food was great too
3rd time we have been here and each time has been enjoyable. Their mussels are very good and the beer selection is wide. Nice evening.
We ate outside so noise level was not a factor. Food was great as was the service. Fun, easy spot for get-together.
Great food, diverse and extensive beer list and an awesome atmosphere. Highly recommend.
Oyster Fest was fantastic.
Inside, the noise level was too loud (at 7:45 pm), and so was the music. We asked to be seated outside to be quiet, but halfway the meal, they turned up the volume of the music outside... The food was good, apart from the mussels with white wine my husband ordered: the mussels looked as if they were not prepared fresh, but had been reheated: all dried out, shriveled and tasteless; the sauce did not taste like a white-wine sauce... The friendly waiter apologized when we asked for the bill and didn't add the mussels to the bill... fair deal. I think that in the hot of the Summer, no restaurant should be serving mussels, like it used to be the case in Belgium and the Netherlands (I don't know what they do today).
We have been here several times before and it has changed. The service tonight was horrible and the food was not good. We asked for bread that never came, mussels were sandy but the big issue was very poor service. No one came back and we had to ask repeatedly for things. The food was marginal and certainly impacted our anniversary. The four of us all felt that it had gone downhill and certainly was not worth $25 for mussels and $16.50 for a Cosmo. Last time we go there for sure. It was overpriced and bad food with poor service.
The mussels were delicious. Other items on the menu were good, but a little on the salty side for our taste.
Extremely loud restaurant; difficult to have a conversation. Other than that, nice place.
Nice place , probably better at the bar ... the food is great, service great, but the noise in dining room is overwhelming , was about to leave ...
no need tv screen in dining room .
Mussels are great 😜
I was quite shocked at the level of service here- hard to believe. The food is also certainly nothing to rave about. But what really lowers the bar for me is the unprofessional servers and the conversations among them and the woman who looked like a manager. It seemed like they were having such an important conversation with some profanity being thrown around while they were an earshot from us. We were neglected for a while so we had time to listen in- Is it really that hard to find professional people who have SOME sense of customer service? this isn’t the typical dinner date I aspire for. Will skip.
Food and service are always great, menu a bit different from the rest of the nearby fare, and service as good or better than any around.
Need to request a booth!
Very loud - can’t hear your companions!
Always enjoy a good meal here. Extensive beer menu and food is terrific.
Very disappointed that our reservation appearance was not recorded by the establishment so that we can be awarded our 100 points from Open Table !
White wine mussels were divine and so was the short rib pappardale. Emily took great care of us.
Unique and way tasty menu with a beer snob’s dream beer list. Great place for a group get together or meet up after work. Friendly and knowledgeable staff.
Portions just the right amount. Highly recommend for lunch
Nice place for food and excellent beer list.
Loved the mussels, even though they are not quite as plump In August. And the truffle fries are sinfully, exquisitely special!
Food was too salty, over cooked and just terrible . The manager tried to make it up to us with the tiniest desert I’ve ever seen and the bill still came out to 100 bucks . We normally are regulars but I don’t think we will be back .
Everything was great except for inattentive, delayed service.
Definitely get the mussels in wine sauce with the frites. The mussels were delicous and so fresh and the frites were crispy. When you finish with that..... leave or if that was an appetizer and you want to order a meal DO NOT order the Cioppino! Words can't describe how bad it was. Everything in the dish was bad including those unbelievably delicious mussels. The tomato sauce/broth is terrible. Two out of 4 ordered it and neither liked it AT ALL. Struggled to eat it. Service is wonderful, everyone is very friendly and on top of things.
Everything was great, however it is very loud due to how the restaurant is laid out.
Place used to be great. The mussel sizes have greatly diminished. They used to have the biggest plump mussels now they are tiny very tiny. Also the server was not very good. He knew little about the oysters. Additionally the menu on their website is totally wrong. Beer prices are very high. Off night?
No matter where you sit (except for the outside tables), the noise is so loud you cannot hear the person accross from you
