Great seafood and beyond! Mussel lovers’ heaven! Absolutely recommended.
This was a great dinner spot after a late afternoon movie. We asked for a booth and it was quieter than the main area and quite easy for conversation. The beer menu is amazing, both draft and bottles. I didn't even get a chance to check the wine list. It was a cold night, and the menu was filled with plenty of filling and delicious comfort food. Our table tried 2 wonderful appetizers, mussels, and one of the specials. All were absolutely delicious!
Service was unobtrusive but very attentive.
Looking forward to a return trip soon - this will be our go-to restaurant this winter--
Best mussels in town!
Great food. Our server was exceptional. He really took care of us.
We had french onion soup and mussells. Good food and good service.
Amazing beer selection and they let you sample one or two before committing. Great service, delicious food. Fun vibe— I love the mussels because they’re fun to share and not heavy. Had a delicious cauliflower appetizer, too!
Mussel Bar is one part of the growing and excellent group of Wiedemeier restaurants. From the name, the specialty of the house is the mussels -- perhaps better than those I enjoyed in Belgium. Their Belgian beer selection is among the best anywhere. Go there and get your Belgian on!
Great mussels. Great service.
Great dinner, interesting menu, good cocktails and beer! Will return.
The server was very busy but was still good and brought over a birthday dessert that was delicious.
Food was good. But nothing particularly outstanding. Atmosphere was simple and best for good food with bar atmosphere.
We were early for the reservation but they seated us right away on a Sat. I liked the fact they said no problem.
The service was very good. Everyone was friendly. I had Choppino which was spicy. The wine was great. Great mussels and bread.
Great meal. Service was excellent and all of our server’s suggestions were spot on. Mussels and scallops were both perfectly prepared. Tried some new beer as well. Sat outside on a beautiful evening. What could be better?
The mussels were great. Good see Rion of Belgium beers.
Loved it. Will be going back
The food was only average. We were hoping for it to be better for the price.
Mark made it a fab evening; great service and great food - loved the Spicy Thai mussels in curry and the char broiled calamari; felt like home
Roxy is the best waitress!
Our food was delicious and the staff were very friendly. Worth the stop if you are in the area.
After previous visits where we enjoyed tasty salads and entrees, we were disappointed by the paella. Far too much ‘lobster broth’, 3 shrimp, a handful of mussels, and rice topped off with a single grilled fish - not recommended.
No one was there, which should have been a clue. Food was so-so. Waitress was nice, but never returned to our table to refill water.
Before we left, my husband used the restroom and discovered that the water was not working. Ugh!
My rating is influenced by the fact my wife and I got violently ill late that evening and through the night into the next day. I called the restaurant and spoke to the manager who said that she would get back to me after she spoke to the chef. No apology. She told me the it really couldn't have been the food. Yes, it could have been the food! It may not have been bacterial, but it could have been tainted. It has now been several days and no return call. I expected the courtesy of a response.
The waitress and service were very good. My wife and I ordered the same dishes, beet salad and cioppino.
Very unlikely to recommend this restaurant.
Terrible service, but decent food. Sat on the patio and the server clearly wasn’t paying any attention to us. We had to ask for more bread for our crab dip and it took her 10 minutes to get it, by which time the dip was cold. She never offered refills on our drinks, and we would have ordered another round of beer, boosting her tip, had she. The kicker was she dropped the check while we were still eating and our pizza was half gone! We didn’t ask for it, or want it yet. Then, after I paid, she finally asked if we’d like another round of drinks... some of the worst service I’ve received recently. Food was ok, but I’d be hard pressed to go back if that’s how I’m treated when spending $100 for two for dinner on a slow night.
Service was ok. Food was fantastic. However, the tables are way too small and too close together. You can fit wherein the table and feel comfortable. The last time I was there I felt the same way. Both time a glass fell and broke because there was no room. This time the person in back of me smashed her head into mine
Mussels were tasty and served in a generous portion. Trout (restaurant week special dish) was moist and tasty. Very much enjoyed the extensive beer/ale/cider “menu.” We look forward to returning soon!
One of our regular go to spots for celebrations and date night. Knowledgeable staff, great beer list, and wonderful food.
Great meal during restaurant week with good service. We had the crab stuffed shrimp which were excellent. Mussels were also a great option but, since we've had those before (and they were excellent) we opted to try something new. Good wine list but, if you drink beer, the beer list is amazing.
We arrived breathlessly on time for a 6:45 reservation and were awarded an outdoor table. (Inside is “energetic” beyond our tolerance.) Service by Mark was prompt, friendly, helpful, and consistent: he never lost track of us. After an imaginative greens and apple salad for her, and a classic gruyere-topped onion soup for him, we ordered mussels beyond our white wine-garlic comfort zones. He the Spanish version with a sauce glowing with roasted red pepper, she a version with bacon and mushrooms. Both were worth the risk, but we’d still declare traditional white wine-garlic the real thing. A cold bottle of NZ Marlborough sauvignon blanc accompanied. Did we need dessert? Noooo, but an ice cream cake put him over the top while she sipped an Irish coffee. A friend with strong Belgian connections declares Mussels as Best of Breed. We agree.
As rated, the food and service were well beyond average. Overall, this a place I will return to.
Ordered way too much food for my husband and I, but everything was delicious. Started with the crab dip, then had the med. mussels and the short rib. The mussels were amazing, the short rib was cooked perfectly, and our waiter provided great service. Highly recommend!
Mussels are always great, with fabulous sauces! Not to mention crisp frittes!
Lively with neighborhood feel. Lobster tails cooked to perfection.
Boyfriend and I went out for date night before heading over to another nearby venue to hear a few bands play. Wait staff was knowledgeable and available without being overbearing. The food was amazing. The chef and kitchen staff could not have done a better job with our meals.
Excellent food and staff.
Among bethesda's best food but Too noisy for dining.
It was my birthday and I made a note when I made reservations. I guess they don’t celebrate birthdays
We love the mussels here. They are always plump and yummy. Indoors is pretty noisy, so we’re really happy when the weather allows us to eat on the patio.
Everything about our dinner was excellent. We were waited on by Allison, who is sharp, personable, and very attentive. (It's rare to find someone who actually knows the ingredients of every dish on the table AND can catch a "Hey, I need something" look out of the corner of her eye while zipping around to other tables AND can properly pour an English porter AND doesn't mind a request to take our picture.)
The starters - grilled calamari and cauliflower romanesco - were perfect. The calamari was a nice blend of chewy and tender, which is a difficult combination to make. The sauces were lovely. And the Mediterranean mussels were heavenly. We took home almost half of the entree and will be using the broth to poach shrimp and salmon.
I almost never give 5 star reviews. This meal deserved every star.
UPDATE: Next evening I poached some shrimp and salmon in the leftover broth. It was divine. I'd die a happy chef if I could make a broth this good.
The food was outstanding!! I took my boyfriend there for a birthday dinner and the seafood wowed us! Ingredients were so fresh, food was amazing, we are still talking about how delicious it was 3 days later!
French Onion soup was delicious. Lobster roll was good, but for me a little too creamy, and the lobster was very chewy.
