French Onion soup was delicious. Lobster roll was good, but for me a little too creamy, and the lobster was very chewy.

My husband picked Mussel Bar at random for a combined Fathers day/birthday dinner on saturday his parents. We made a reservation which I would recommend, but at 6:15 there were plenty of tables and booths available inside but all outside tables were taken. We had a fabulous, attentive waiter, cocktails were out of this world and the food was worth every penny and then some! The cleanest oysters and mussels, clam linguine was spectacular, short ribs so tender they melt in your mouth.
Etc etc etc!!
We raved about it for the remainder of the weekend, all 4 of us agree it was the best restaurant experience any of us had in months. My husband and I have for sure found our new date night spot!!

Cole, our server provided excellent service. It was busy, but he seemed to anticipate our party’s needs. I had the mussels and truffle fries which were so good. The portion size was so much that I took half home. Wonderful, because I got to experience Mussel Bar’s deliciousness at home, too!

Go to this restaurant if: A. You want to drink beer and B. you like plump well-cooked mussels. Do NOT go to this restaurant if you want a dining experience. We arrived on time. Wait staff completely ignored our table (the restaurant wasn't overly busy; on a Friday night no less) for 45 minutes; despite speaking to a manager. Didn't have our first 2 wine choices. The waiter was unpolished. the wait staff doesn't work as a team. The restaurant was dirty. If this restaurant chain wants to compete locally with the likes of the Black restaurant group, they have a LONG way to go. Ok to specialize in Mussels; but ditch the restaurant idea and become a bar like your name says.

I've eaten here multiple times. This was the only visit I've had when I could barely hear myself think... hearing my friend talk was almost impossible. The food was excellent. The cocktails were, meh! The Rose was decent, as was the Pinot Gris. Truffle fries and mussels were outstanding per usual. The noise though... I think it was mostly because I had never sat on the bar side of the restaurant. It was a bit annoying considering I have made a special request for a booth because someone in my party was very hard of hearing. To put us on the bar side tells me either the hostess ignored my request, didn't bother to read it or didn't care.

They had very few draft beers available due to problems with the taps, which was a shame because the drafts are a big draw. Service was not up the the usual standard, but the frites and mussels - we had 4 different kinds - were great.

We are partial to this restaurant, of all the restaurants in the downtown Bethesda area. Love their lunch special, especially the appetizer, the crispy Brussel sprouts. Never thought I would be a fan of a vegetable dish but this one is really outstanding.

The servers in the restaurant are always so pleasant and accommodating. It is great to find a place where you really feel at home and welcomed, and have a wonderful meal to boot.

Service: excellent
Ambiance: excellent
Price: reasonable for the area
Food: Meh
Limited menu. I had the Rockfish special which is not on the regular menu. Presentation was excellent, actual taste of the fish was subpar. Dessert was good.
I gave it one star for value because, at the end of the meal, if the food wasn't good, the rest doesn't matter. Those who are more about ambiance, service, and presentation will love this place.
I left disappointed & feeling a bit ripped off. Doubt I'll return.

Food was outstanding (mussels and salmon), but I am puzzled on why the place had so many tables available on a Sunday brunch - Mother’s Day...

We went to Mussel Bar and Grille for Mother’s Day. The server was wonderful (helpful going through details, courteous and attentive, etc.) and we enjoyed the Thai Curry mussels, among the best meals and flavors I’ve enjoyed in DC, MD, and VA. Wow!

A good but not great meal. They need to get a handle on their quality control in both food (e.g. seasoning) and drink (every bartender working Friday night should know how to basic cocktails like a dirty martini). Not a bad casual place overall, but they are priced above the casual price point. I'll go back, but I will lower my expectations.

We dined at Mussel Bar few time in the past and enjoyed. But this time wasn't good at all. Many dishes were out, the server just apologized and it felt like she just wanted to finish her night. Not sure if I'll give them another chance. Too bad cuz the food is good.

We have eaten here a number of times, usually with no complaints. But something seemed off this time. We had the Brussel Sprouts as an appetizer and they were very good. But my wife got the short ribs and was very disappointed. My wife said the sauce overpowered the meat and the root vegetables that came with it. I got one of the mussel dishes and it just didn't seem as good as usual.

the food was mediocre, the service was good, the staff was pleasant. The noise level is so loud that it is hard to carry on a conversation. It is very difficult to locare from the road, both friends were late due to the fact they could not see the restaurant from the street.

The Mussel bar will not disappoint if you like mussels. Great variety of mussel option and exceptional value for the portion and flavor. Other items ordered were also good and this place takes food allergies seriously. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because our server wasn’t great. I don’t drink beer, but great selection for the beer connoisseur!

The lobster bisque had terrific flavor but was thin for a bisque. The sea bass was delicious!! Strawberry dessert was good, not exceptional. I'd visit again - maybe for happy hour. I saw alot of flatbreads being ordered along with the truffle fries - we'll try those next.

Mussel Bar is a friendly, comfortable place. The mussels are outstanding and the sweet potato fries with the sauce trio are the best choice to accompany them. Excellent selection of beer on tap and we were able to taste when we were not sure which to order. Always a winner for a friendly place in downtown Bethesda. Just enough noise to feel comfortable yet easy to have a conversation. Can't wait for the terrace to open!

Wonderful place! We really enjoyed our Saturday night out to Mussel Bar & Grille. It was our first visit and the place was busy. We were seated at a table versus one of the perimeter booths. The tables are close, but did not feel my personal space was infringed on. The seats are hard as a rock and a little uncomfortable; but as soon as food comes you forget.

Our server Steve was fine and quickly took drink orders and listed the specials. A ton of beer choices are available. We ordered the grilled calamari and Brussels Sprouts for starters. Both were amazing and I really loved the Brussel Sprouts. The food was served HOT like it was just off the grill.

During March, they have a March Madness special of All You Can Eat mussels. We did not think we could do that so we ordered regular portions of the Mediterranean. This has really great mergquez sausage and goat cheese in the sauce. You just can’t find the words to describe how much I enjoyed this... seriously good. It is a huge portion and I ate all of it.

BTW- Next to us was a young lady who was someone ordered the All You Can Eat and she shockingly ate 3 portions of multiple versions. On one had I was shocked and the other hand, I was very jealous I couldn’t eat that many because they are just that good!
