The mussels were the low point of the meal--while it was a great portion size, they came out fractionally overcooked. My friend's tuna, the calimari, and the crab dip were excellent, though. Service was good, though we had to flag our server down a couple of times for small requests. Would love to have the mussels when properly cooked.
We were there (two couples) on a recent Friday evening because of the “June crab cake special.” The mussels we shared as an appetizer were delicious, but the crab cakes were overlooked and not as advertised; they were supposed to be lump crabmeat, but there was a significant amount of backfin or filler. We moved outside because it was deafeningly loud inside; conversation was impossible without raised voices. Our server, Taylor, was excellent.
Mussels bar is great place to dine when craving mussels or oysters, which are amazing there. Truffle fries are very good too.
Last time I was in, my experience was less than stellar, which was totally abnormal as I come in a few times a month. Glad to see My experience returned to what I have come to expect from The Mussel Bar...excellence:)
Wow, great mussels, great beer menu, best bronzino in town. Sitting outside is a bit car-honky and service is a bit spotty here and there, but all in all, we'll definitely be coming back.
Great food and service!
The food was delicious and the service was great. We had white wine mussels, scallops, bronzino, linguine with clams, butter cake and peanut butter bar. The food was well prepared and flavorful. The butter cake was outstanding. We will be back.
Highly recommend the mussels, as the name implies.
Outstanding food! Although we sat at the bar, we had great service!
The incredibly slow service was shocking for a lunch crowd. Food was ok but we had to rush through it in order to be out within an hour.
I'd classify Mussel Bar and Grille as mediocre as far as mussels are concerned. The mussels are served in a deep frying pan so there's a lot of surface area and the mussels cool quickly. Other restaurants serve mussels in a pot so that the broth is keeping the deeper mussels warm. The mussel size was reasonable, portion size was reasonable (and could easily be shared) but the broth lacked any distinct flavor. The frites came to the table lukewarm, not hot out of the fryer. I sent my frites back and asked for a warmer batch. I'm comparing Mussel Bar to St Arnolds in DC. I think St Arnolds has more flavorful mussels.
Horrible. This place was completely unprepared for a Mother’s Day crowd. Food was grossly delayed, and a steady stream of folks kept stopping by to untruthfully tell us that our food was “coming right up.” This either is or is not the case, and after the third time hearing this lie, we left. I spoke with two managers, who had no excuses for the failures of the kitchen or why it was necessary for staff to keep lying to us.
We had a wonderful brunch at Mussel Bar & Grille. The highlights where the frites and the Bloody Mary's.
We had a fantastic meal Saturday night (early evening) this place is a jewel - we have been there about 15 times and have never had a bad or mediocre meal. I grew up eating mussels and everyone knows, if you get a "bad"one it just ruins the whole meal. That has NEVER happened here, and that is impressive - if you eat a lot of steamed mussels you know what I am talking about. Our waitress, Yoan, was fantastic. Don't miss an opportunity to visit - not just for the mussels, I had scallops which were delicious and my spousal unit had the salmon - OUTSTANDING.
My new favorite restaurant! Always great service and delicious!
Mussel Bar & Grille gets it right every time! Our server Robert went out of his way to help me make the perfect selection of hard cider, and the entire staff always make guests feel welcome. The mussels and frites are my go-to favorite, but the menu has wonderful options for everyone. These are just some of the reasons I keep coming back!
It has been a while since I have been to this restaurant and was glad to have the chance to go back. However, it was unusual for me to be there on a Sunday evening with the place mostly empty. That was a good thing because the acoustics in the place make it very noisy. Also, I thought we might have more attentive service, but not so. While our server was very nice and asked a number of times if everything was okay, I was surprised that 1) the food took a long time to come out, 2) we had to ask for bread, which in the past had been automatic when we sat down, 3) they were very slow to clear the dishes from the table (the server walked by once without even glancing to see if we might need some table clearing) and 4) we had to flag down the server in order for us to get our check. The food was very good and I would certainly go back, but I hope this review might make them aware that something is missing compared to the many times I have been here in the past.
Most of our orders came out incorrectly...worst experience we’ve ever had there.
Decided to get dinner spur of the moment. They had room outside and the weather was lovely; nearby traffic a bit loud, but not terrible. Enjoyed the mussels with white wine and crab cake dinner. Both dishes were great. Didn’t realize we had to request bread, which was good when we did ask for it. Will likely go back!
Everything was very good. Our waiter, Dennis, was exceptional.
My wife and I have been “collecting” Robert Wiedmaier restaurants since New Years when we had dinner at Marcel’s. The Mussel bar it true to form, excellent food and service. Very casual setting with friendly and attentive service. This is an excellent place for every day, happy hour and casual dining. Would go back, highly recommended
excellent food and service- great value - a half order of mussels was gigantic - tasty - nice pizza too -
we wait for over an hour for our entrees, customers were moderate.
Great food, great service! We had mussels and frites and they were awesome. The server has very polite.
The restaurant itself is one of many in Arlington that sets out to appeal to the younger (happy hour) crowd. When we visited it was empty on a Saturday morning, and stayed that way until after lunch time. The service (Cody) is fine, and there is no problem there, and the mussels are fine, but I would prefer them in something other than the large pan in which they came. Other customers may like restaurants that are all glass and pipes, but if I'm having seafood of any kind I would much rather have lots of wood and a fresh fish market in the building or close by.
We sat outside with our dog and our server was exceptional
Slightly revised menu -- some better, some not.
I go for the mussels which were frresh and tasty. A new addition - snap peas, as a shared plate - was surprisingly delicious.
$26 for a single soft shell crab. WTF?
The mussels were excellent. My wife and I were full by the time we ate the appetizers. Definitely going back.
Loved the food and the wine selection. My husband couldn’t find a beer that could be available but they gave him one on the house. Oysters were amazing and walking distance from the hotel.
Extremely loud. Crazy music. Too loud to ever come back.
Great food. Noisy, and service spotty. Will go again and again.
The food was delicious, but my father was very sick for two days after.
I've been a patron on Mussel Bar since it opened. My visit in April 2019 was a huge disappointment. The service, food and value all fell. The Happy Hour menu used to be great, it was pretty much done away with. The happy hour wine selections are undrinkable and service staff to not understand their own menu. The prices are off when comparing the bar and restaurant menu. After many years, I won't be back.
Overall need to work on brunch menu, and service. Always been for dinner, first time brunch, need to improve overall.
Server was awful, uninterested, and tried adding drinks to our bill that we didn’t order. Disappointing, been here several times and never been treated so poorly
It is easy to over eat! Food and service were great
We are big fans of the food at the mussel bar, and love the beer selection.
However, to say this restaurant is inconsistent would be an understatement, and this past experience left us concerned as to whether we should get our jones for mussels satisfied elsewhere. The mussels tasted fine, but they tasted like mussels and the great flavors Of the white wine and garlic and other broths in which they were supposed to have been cooked were missing. 4 of us had but a thin layer of sauce in which to dip the mussels, and one serving had to be sent back because of a complete lack of the white wine broth it was supposed to be cooked in. Make a better effort mussel bar, at least from our perspective you are on notice.
The new menu was a surprise to those of us who frequent the Arlington location. Some of our favorite starters and sides, such as brussel sprouts, cauliflower, sunchoke soup, and Tempura shrimp, were missing from the menu and was a disappointment. However, a couple of our favorite entrées were available to satisfy us. The new preparation of the short rib with the egg pasta was very good, but the previous preparation with just root vegetables was better when one wanted to partake of the great baguette bread served with meals. The steak and frites continues to be a wonderful entrée for our group who prefer less well-done piece of beef. The butter cake dessert and strawberry tart dessert were a big hit at the table. As always, Chef David provides sumptuous food with exquisite preparation and presentation. Benji provided great service. And, Jeremy is always helpful and truly interested in feedback. Mussel Bar & Grille - Arlington is one of our top dining choices!
Overall Mussel Bar was good. Very loud and hard to hear others at the table. Our server was very nice, the meal was served promptly and we didn't feel like we were rushed. Kind of on the expensive side though.
