Muss & Turner's - Smyrna Ratings and Reviews
The noise level was a big deterrent to conversation- we almost had to yell to hear at our table for 4. There is nothing in that main dining area to absorb sound. We should have asked to sit outside....might have been better there.
Our server was super- she was very informative and helpful- great personality.
Our server was helpful but was stretched too thin between tables so service was slow. The cocktails were good but not great. We shared a seasonal plum salad that was the highlight of the meal. Entrees were just average and the desserts both the goat cheesecake and the carrot cake were a disappointment. Our server tried to salvage the desserts by offering another which we declined. She sent us home with a cookie which my husband said was good. Although the overall experience was pleasant I would not return nor would I recommend to friends.
We always love coming here for dinner and seeing what's new each season. Muss & Turner's seems to do fall really well and creatively, with deep, earthy flavors such as cocoa pasta, root vegetables, duck leg confit, etc. Currently, they're running a very nice pecan pie for dessert along with some of the more run-of-the-mill regular selections. Fairly small draft beer selection, but always interesting and local finds (there's a pretty robust can / bottle list).
Went back to try acclaimed burgers again after a very disappointing first experience, when they arrived overcooked and dry. My husband's was perfect, mine was overcooked again. Salad was great, and they split it up for us to share. Drinks good also. Sat in the more romantic and dimly lit Eleanor's in the back, but within a short amount of time, it had filled up with lots of very loud singles. Kind of put the nail in the coffin for the nice date night out. All we could hear was loud laughter and voices all around us, so no, we probably won't be back for that. Sure wish there was a great local place with good food and great atmosphere so you could stay close by home when you wanted to.
Muss & Turner's needs to get the A/C situation figured out in the main dining room. Was uncomfortably warm in there throughout the meal. Would not recommend going on days/nights when it's super hot outside.
Part of the menu was also hard to decipher. Outside of what was clearly marked a Burger/Sandwich one entire side of the menu was just a list of dishes. It wasn't until I asked that the waitress told us that some of the dishes were smaller and meant for sharing and others were larger entree size. Menus should be easy to read and understand. Should have to ask for an explanation of what is what.
Miss the change of menu daily when Chef David Sturgis was there, but overall service was excellent. Disappointed in this day and age or people cutting down on alcholic beverages for various reasons and DUI issues, they don't have a selection of quality NA beers. Food is still a great value and one of the best restaurants in Smyrna / Marietta.
I had high hopes for Muss & Turner, but the food was lackluster. The tacos were lacking in flavor, the heirloom tomato salsa they stress is barely enough to enjoy on more than one taco, and the beets in the beet salad appeared to be from a can (instead of fresh roasted.) The fries were good, but nothing exceptional.
The best part of the restaurant was the hidden "speakeasy." If you decide to eat dinner here, definitely ask to be seated in there. The ambiance is much better and the bartenders are great.
M&T is always a GREAT evening. We ended up in the Speakeasy bar located in the back of the restaurant, in a separate room. We completely lost track of time drinking and eating over 3 hours. We enjoyed the charcuterie and chesses, kimchi pancakes, chicken thighs and lots of yummy cocktails. For dessert, I always get the Goat Cheese Cheesecake.
There is nothing that my wife and I can really complain about regarding our experience at Muss and Turner's. It's just that, for us, the experience was good but not outstanding. The food was decent and the restaurant was clean. We had a great server and the food came out in a reasonable time. We loved the fries as appetizers but recommend the horseradish sauce over the garlic crema. The list of beers was almost as long as the list of wine. There is something here for everyone but it almost feels too much.
It seemed to us (and it's probably just our personal tastes) that the menu and the ambiance didn't completely sync. It's like an award-winning chef from New York moved to a southern suburban neighborhood deli and the two haven't quite made friends yet. The menu was an odd combination of sandwiches and dishes with fancy sounding ingredients but served very casually. There is a strange mobile of cooking utensils hanging in the center of the room that seems out of place. Overall, something just didn't click for us but we can see others really enjoying Muss and Turner's.
Family was there for a business trip and we like trying new places. The menu available online enticed us immediately. W entries several items on the menu and the cocktails were incredible (esp. the bourbon Brownster cocktail). Our server, Alex, was tremendous. She was incredibly attentive, well versed with the unique menu and was obviously personally invested in the success of the establishment. Can't wait to return.
We went to Muss and Turners for a last minute dinner on a Friday night with our 9 month old. The staff was super friendly, we were able to enjoy great recommended cocktails, and locally sourced food. There is also a speakeasy in the back of the restaurant through a walk in freezer!
Excellent service, I just personally didn't find a lot of options that I liked on the menu. What we ended up ordering tasted great but the portions were pretty small and the main dishes weren't accompanied by anything whatsoever.
I had previously been to Muss & Turner's several times. It has never disappointed with Eleanor's handcrafted cocktails. We met up with old friends and shared their small plates as well as ordered the several of their sandwiches. They've kept their menu new with new dishes that are still a foodie's dreams.
