About this restaurant

  • Innovative
  • Romantic
  • Good for special occasions
Musa is a restaurant, art gallery and live music venue in the merchant quarter of old Aberdeen.
It is a haven from conformity and the mundane, where fresh and contemporary food, cutting edge art and live music blend together against the canvas of a 19th century church. Our eclectic menu fuses world inspired cuisine with quirky interpretations of Scottish staples. We fiercely advocate an artisanal, old world approach to food, focussing on local produce from small Scottish suppliers. We serve food throughout the day and dinner starts from 5:30PM, we have a new contemporary art exhibition every 2 months and feature live music at the weekends. Book your table now.

Our group found the music too loud and it was difficult to hear the conversation within our group. The menu wasn't great with the result that three of our group only had starters and the mains were expensive, so for a friends get together we would go elsewhere

We found the food average and the alcohol prices extortionate. £14 a glass of wine (we found when we got the bill, the staff did not show us the wine list or advise us on price) is what I would expect to pay in a top class restaurant not somewhere that sells itself as a casual dining experience. And £5 for 330ml of alcohol free beer and £6 for a 330ml beer - really Brewdog?. The food was "different" but not particularly good. Costing upwards of £20 for a main course the options we chose (the strange caesar "salad" and the fish risotto) were disappointing. The salad was a bit weird and the fish was overcooked or two smoky and the risotto had no salt in it. We went on a Monday to join the open mic session but with prices like this we wont be going back again. And I'd question whether many others will with alcohol prices like this.

The interior is pleasant as were staff. Main course was lukewarm; staff did apologise and reheat, but vegetables came back slightly mushy. No reduction was offered. Despite being asked, we couldn't get smaller (125mls) wine measures, only 175mls and 250mls, a bit uncivilised for an upmarket restaurant. While dietary guidance was very good on starters and mains, there was none on desserts. Overall, a mediocre dining experience. particularly at the price.

Disappointed to discover that the reservation was made with Musa under false pretences. Musa advertised a pre-theatre menu online which we discovered on arrival that they don’t do any more.

This is the second times Iv been for lunch in a couple of weeks The food is always great and the place itself is very interesting to look at My one and only grip is that I have been before in the evening a few times and it’s had time to heat up but both times Iv been in for lunch I have been very cold I appreciate it’s an old building it’s just a wee not as both myself and my guests have been chilly when we have had lunch Other than this it is outstanding and the food is delicious!

Poor vegetarian choice All gins priced at £9 regardless of garnish, tonic etc, not appropriate garnish, served Hendricks with grapefruit, for a bar that promotes gin tasting the correct garnish should be essential. Main course was disappointing for the price

Love coming to Musa. Great food and service but on my last visit my partner and I were very cold so much so had to cut short our dinner. Such a shame.

We were in Aberdeen for a weekend and decided to try Musa. We shared a salad with herbed goat cheese and cheese tart. Both were very good. For dinner we had the Cod with Risotto, and Lamb with potatoes. Both were very good and nice portions. Wine list has some good selections by the glass and limited but decent bottle selection. There was a large party so our dinners were slightly delayed; however, the chef sent over another appetizer (haggis spring rolls -- which were delicious). Our waitress was very nice and attentive. Also they had a wonderful jazz singer / band so that was nice. The ambience is a little bar like, and the lighting could be a little dimmer, but overall it's a wonderful restaurant and I would definitely recommend for a delicious and interesting meal when you're in Aberdeen.
