Murphy's Grand Irish Pub
A short 10-15-minute drive from the nations capital, this landmark establishment is located at the main intersection in Old Town, King & Washington.
Today, the tradition of great food and drink remains as steadfast as when the doors first opened back in 1978
Murphy's has Live Irish Music seven nights a week and on weekends, on both floors.
This review is about the brunch, which has been a favorite of ours for many years. Now that Murphy's is accepting reservations online for brunch, the worst part of the brunch experience has been eliminated -- the long lines. Our table was waiting when we arrived, we weren't rushed out, and we could hear each other perfectly in the calm of a brunch hour without a gaggle of people standing in the doorway. We always love the food. Crabcakes benedict on the special menu are outstanding, but half of our party ordered the traditional Irish Breakfast, which is outstanding in all of its parts. Having champagne included is such a bonus to make it feel special. Love, love, love this brunch.
Nice atmosphere, good food. I would definitely go again.
We had a large group of 14. Service was great. No mistakes in the orders. Always a favorite spot for Sunday brunch.
Hands down the best brunch deal! $10 for food and $1 champagne refills. Cannot be beat!
We love you, brunch is amazing Saturday morning around 11 was peaceful. Stall is always nice nd patient.
We ate here on a Wednesday night.. The restaurant was quiet given it as the middle of the week.. Seems like a local hangout.. The special for the day .40 cent wings. In batches of 10 .Almost everyone was getting the special.. The wings were very crispy, the way they should be, but not dry.. There were 3 choices of sauce, buffalo, barbeque and dry rub old bay.. We ordered the dry rub, good but a bit salty, and the buffalo, which had a nice hot tang to it. We would go back when we are in town again. Very reasonably priced meal. Specials daily..
Murphy's is great! Strongly recommend! Especially brunch...
Menu is diverse and filled with great choices. we found the Irish spring rolls to be unexpected and quite tasty! We sat upstairs which was the perfect choice for our birthday celebration as downstairs was packed and very noisy. There was a bit of noise and commotion upstairs when the bachelor/bachelorette party came in for a while ~ but it demonstrates how Murphy’s offers the perfect location for a variety of occasions. Our server Maggie was wonderful!
This is an Irish Pub with a gorgeous fireplace and surprisingly great food!
Murphy’s is great for any occasion!
Buena opcion para tragos y pasar un buen rato con musica tradicional irlandesa
All you can eat ribs were fall off the bone delicious!
Great brunch experience. Very good food at great prices and excellent service from very busy staff.
We had a party of 10. One table received their food and finished before the other table received their food (about an hour)
Our first time for brunch. Had family in town. So much fun they can’t wait to come back!!!
Delicious. Fast service.
We love Murphys! Good food, good service and a great location. This is our go-to spot for Sunday brunch. The best in town!
A fine Irish nite
Beer and menu clearly Irish and above average. Good menu selection, the beer flight provides a sample of four Irish beers and would recommend. The night I was there was totally cramped, people actually on top of each other-so took good conversation out of the experience. Service was great, but servers were totally understaffed. So if you are looking for a whiff of Irish, a good place to end up. Otherwise, try to pick an evening when you can get some breathing room.
We always love the Murphy’s brunch. They are always busy, and we tried to get ahead of the crowd since we had a group, but the trade off was that the service was very slow to start as the staff was just arriving. Didn’t matter to me as I love the brunch and the atmosphere, but just go a little later.
I thought the food was ordinary and the place was very noisy and uncomfortable. It would be a good spot for a beer, sports game, and some quick eats. Not a good place for a leisurely, healthy dinner.
Great for Patriots games
The food was amazing and it was the perfect atmosphere for a Sunday brunch! 10/10 I would go again!!!
Murphy's is our go-to place for brunch and we're here often. It's also where we take our out of town guests before they head out. Great food, great location, great staff. And the prices for Sunday brunch can't be beat!
Food was not fresh made as described. Our meal came to table in two minutes and was lukewarm.
Fish was definitely from a frozen bag.
Our server Felipe was very nice! Irish pub feel. The live music was just starting as we were finishing but it sounded good!!!!
My only downside to Murphy's was that no where did it state that on Sunday's it was only a limited brunch menu until 3 pm. Service was so so.
Best brunch value in Northern Virginia. Food is good..includes champagne. Andrea was our server. She was efficient, personable and friendly. Kenny Mitchell, the GM, is great and makes sure everyone is happy and has the great Irish sense of humor. Check it out.
We ended up only getting a portion of our meal due to a fire alarm which wasn’t there fault. The food and service were great. We would return!
The atmosphere and service were impeccable! I made my reservation the day before with OpenTable and when I arrived a couple minutes before my time, my table was marked reserved and waiting for me even though there was a line already at the door. The Champagne Brunch is a must of your are in Old Town Alexandria on a Sunday!
Great place for live music. Food is standard pub fare, but very good. Service was good, but it was very crowded when we were there and there were a few times when we had to flag down our server. He was excellent, it just seemed that he was responsible for too many people at one time.
Meat pie was below average and the gravy, if not canned, was made to look canned! The burger was a likely a frozen pattie, the bun hard and low quality and the side of "vegetables" was squash with no flavor.
Great Service!!!! Our waiter Joe was awesome and the entertainment was so fun!! Will definitely be back!!
I tried the Shepherd's pie and it was amazing. The service was outstanding too. Very cool atmosphere. I highly recommend it.
Wanted to try this place out after viewing their menu. Wife had the fish and chips, daughter had the stew and I had the corned beef and cabbage. Food was authentic and we'll prepared. Server although busy was attentive and did a great job. Only disappointment was did not realize the dinning area and bar were in the same room and we made mistake of going on a Friday night. Bar was packed and very lively. We could not hold a conversation without shouting due to the noise. Basically enjoyed the meal and left. It's definitely an Irish Pub.
The place was packed, but that's to be expected for a Friday I imagine. The fish & chips was good and they brought my husband regular peas because he doesn't like the mushy ones!
