Murphy's Ratings and Reviews
I’m a long time customer. This time, our server, Rebecca, was truly splendid. The food was not quite up to its usual standard. Asparagus was fibrous and scorched. Sandwich bun was also scorched and tough. Little things, but annoying and uncharacteristic of Murphy’s. Perhaps, I hope, this was a “one-off” event.
My husband and I had the specials for the evening. I had sea scallops and he had the skirt steak. Both delicious! We had calamari for an appetizer and they also brought bread to the table. All the food was great and our waitress was very friendly, upbeat, and attentive!
Disappointed that there were limited vegetarian options, especially no soup without a meat based broth. Talked to our waitress Caitlin about this and nearly 5 minutes later she walked out with a vegetarian soup that the chef just created to accommodate me. It wasn't the best soup I've ever had however it was tasty and I was impressed with the effort made by the chef and Caitlin. Murphys has been around for a while and that's hard to do in Atlanta. This is one of the reasons it's so special...neighborhood gem for sure!
I've been to Murphy's a couple of times with my work team. The staff is wonderful, efficient and informed and the food is nicely prepared. We're a group of seven and we've been very satisfied with all seven meals both times. Top reviews go to the braised brisket!
We had an excellent time at Murphy's. There were a couple vegetarian options, but I felt like there could have been more. We spend over 2.5 hours here and had a really nice time. The coffee and dessert after dinner were spectacular and the neighborhood of Virginia Highlands was really cute in general. The service was awesome, our waitress was very nice and attentive. Would definitely recommend and we will be coming back!
Everytime we go here we wonder why we haven't been back sooner. The food is always fresh and delish. We had the best flat bread appetizer and the best tuna salad we have ever had. We sat at the bar and Julian hooked us up with the perfect wine pairing. Their brunch is also wonderful. Please go you will be glad you did!
Consistently good food, but the hostess needed a bit more training. If the server for our reserved table was too busy, then seat our party at a table in a different station. After all, who really wants a view of the toilets while eating?
Also, after seeing three desserts come out of the kitchen with birthday candles and expecting the same for our son, why did the hostess bring out the cake without a candle? If you're going to help out the waiter, do it correctly or don't do it at all.
Murphy’s is consistently good! Our server Caroline was attentive, fun, knowledgeable and the food was delicious as usual. Good wine options too. We were able to get reservations for 7:30p on a Friday the day before for 4 of us and it met everyone’s dining needs, awesome!
I made my reservation two weeks in advance, and when we got there, they sat us at a cramped table in a corner right next to a heavy traffic area. When we asked for a different table, they acted like it was an inconvenience. We never got bread service, and our waitress took the order and brought the bill. She only checked on us once, and that was to try and upsell wine. I have been in the F&B business for more than two decades and was a little unimpressed. I will say the food was amazing.
Ordered Hagar steak. Expected fall vegetables as in menu. Got wild rice which I don't like at all. Think I should have been told by server ahead. She told me it came with it but it,didn't mention on menu. Had 6 bites of steak two pices were over cooked to well. For $28 pretty pricey.
Our meal was perfect last Saturday night. I had the skirt steak over mashed potatoes and leeks and it was divine, perfect comfort food for a chilly November night. The service was excellent; not only our server, but also everyone else who helped our server. This place is managed with a team attitude and it is well done. Terrific. Highly recommend to our neighbors in Atlanta and to visitors as well.
I have been to Murphys a number of times and have always been pleased with the food and the service. Yesterday our service was not just bad, it was horrendous. My husband and I took my parents promising a positive experience and it was anything but that.. Wine didn't come for 45 minutes..my mom asked the hostess to change tables (to try and get a waitress that would give us service) and the hostess said that our waitress only had 2 tables that night..so not sure why so slow?...waitress dropped the menus on the ground, didn't bring the bread without us asking...then brought the bread but forgot the oil...then forgot the oil again after we reminded her...then left us sitting there for a good 20 min instead of taking our order. Then brought the wrong wine... I don't understand what happened. Entrees were good but the presentation was just thrown together. The trout/lentils literally looked like someone just dumped them on the plate haphazardly. This experience was bad enough to make me rethink coming back for awhile-which is a shame, bc I've had other positive experiences. However, this is the second not so great experience we have had (last time we came for wine and were made to stand there for 30 minutes even though there was plenty of space and no one else waiting and we only wanted to drink at the bar??? ) we figured it was an off night, but clearly with our most recent experience, I can see that things are going downhill for Murphys. Hope you guys can get hostess staff and wait staff that know what they are doing, otherwise we won't be back!
