Mumbai is at the center of the culinary culture in India bringing together the best tastes from around the country and serving them up in the markets and street-side stalls for millions to enjoy.
Mumbai Local is Vancouver’s own adventure into the “Dream City”.
Bringing all of the authentic delights of one of the worlds most diverse culinary destinations and serving them up in a street style restaurant in the West End.
Mumbai Local is not just about eating Indian food, It is a food journey inspired by the street of Mumbai, India.
We have always had great food . The service was outstanding.
This little place serves amazing modern Indian cuisine. The guys that run it are friendly and very knowledgeable. They have lots of delicious dishes you won’t fine anywhere else in Vancouver. I highly recommend it.
The food is ingenious and the chef shows great skill. The restaurant is a big cut above the pakoras and chicken tikka masala routine and quite inventive.
They deserve to be a lot busier, but we all know how fickle the crowd can be. This stretch of Davie is in transition- these guys are just a bit ahead of it all
I hope they survive- they certainly can count on my patronage
What a great experience! My family came to celebrate a birthday, and we just asked the chefs to bring us dishes they thought we would like. Every. Single. One. was delicious! The food is atypical (no butter chicken on the menu), so it was fun to discover new dishes, textures and flavours. Will definitely return!
The food is always fresh and meets expectations.
My wife and I recently went to Mumbai Local for an anniversary dinner. Food was amazing !! The flavour combinations assembled by chefs are noveau Indian. Like Vij's back in the early days. Complex taste combos. Delicious flavourings. Totally satisfying. We loved the Chaat sampler. The chicken masai is really good. The Dal was delicate and more complex than most Dal's (which I often find tasty but boring). ML's was delish. Portions are plentiful. Decor inside is simple but clean. Service was stellar. Can't wait to go back.
Excellent food, flavoured with spice and love. Knowledgeable and warm wait staff. Generous service. We love this place so much.
Food was tasty but very small quantities for the cost. They forgot one item on our order and tried to charge us for it anyway. They also charged $1.50 for extra chutney
Decor and seating was good. Chaat sampler was good for 2 ppl to try every puri they had. Some were quite delicious. Ordered the Sablefish. Very small portion for fish, massive pieces of rice cakes. The rice cake would have been even better if it was thinner and grilled longer. The chili chicken was good and flavorful. But sadly they have not marked us arrived for reservation even though i mentioned to them coming in that i was early and also calling them after i left as my reservation was still in the system. Still have not received my points.
We liked our server, the room and decor, and impressed by the heaviness and style of the chairs.zThe menu reads well which is why I wanted to eat there. Sadly, the food was pretty bad. With a few tweaks I believe it could be outstanding.
A big red flag was the low temperature the hot food was served at. The way that food is held/kept hot should definitely be reviewed. Through our visit, a friend of someone in the kitchen was standing at the pass and talking to the people in the kitchen which optically is bad form. The kitchen should be concentrating on what they are doing and not chatting to friends standing outside the kitchen.
Bhel puri & shev puri - the bhel puri was good, nice blend of textures and flavours but the shev puri was almost identical in flavour. Only the texture of the potato set it apart
Kanda Batata Bhajji Plate - battered and fried potato slices and onion clusters. Both items were really greasy and were barely warm. The chewy texture led me to think that they had been fried in advance and warmed in the oven or in a deep fryer that was not hot enough. The chutney was good
Panir tikka - I don't mind a dry grilled panir dish as long as there is enough flavour to keep it interesting. This was not interesting and had a very tiny portion of chutney that was not enough for the amount of panir
Masala Lamb chop (each) - Expected a loin or rack chop so we ordered 3 to have one for each of us. Turned out to be large shoulder chops. I personally like chewy meat as long as it's flavourful but this lacked spice and the masala coating was very granular. The beet chutney had no zip
Kombadi vade - Large pool of barely warm clove flavoured sauce - which dominated the whole dish - with rice, vade and boneless chicken breast. I know this is supposed to be eaten be soaking the vade in the sauce but the vade were super greasy and had the same reheated texture as the bajji plate. Most of this went uneaten along with the extra vade we had ordered
The food was delicious with complex flavours that make it a cut above many Indian restaurants. Nice presentation and service.
Great food, great service, very quiet on Saturday for lunch.
They don't have high chairs for babies thought.
Lovely Establishment with great food and very friendly staff.
We've eaten at Mumbai Local twice now and both times offered a treat to our taste buds. The food is served Mumbai style with an emphasis on how lunch is delivered in the city. The food is served in functional metal containers that keep the foods hot. All items we've tried were exciting and very flavourful. Like great foods from India, the flavours offered an exciting challenge and combined, it leaves you very satisfied. Wonderful addition to the Davie village.
