Mulino Italian Kitchen & Bar Ratings and Reviews
Amazing for a special occasion. It was my birthday and our waitress took such good care of us, complimentary glass of champagne and gelato/Ice cream from the chef upstairs, not to mention the pasta was impeccable. This will be our new Italian go-to! Great experience, highly recommend.
Wonderful interior; very cozy on a cold winter night. We didn't use the outdoor patio area, but know it is "tented" in for the cold weather and when we walked thru it, it was very comfortable. All enjoyed the pasta dished (carbonara and bolognese). Disappointed in the lamp shank as I was expecting very tender and tasty lamp (given the restaurants past as a Moroccan restaurant), but it was tough and bland. Pasta is expensive for what it is.
Delicious food and great service, however very odd atmosphere for an Italian restaurant as when we first arrived the music was more like a club than an Italian eatery. After asking our server to adjust, all was ok and we enjoyed the evening. I would go back for the food given the “club” aspect goes away.
Food was great but service was slow, probably because a wedding reception was going on upstairs. Very loud and vibrant with cool ambiance. The only white wine they serve is Italian so if you are a chardonnay drinker there is not one wine on the menu you will enjoy. Overall, a great place but sadly we won't return because we love a good chardonnay with our dinner.
It was a first time at Mulino for everyone at our table and we all left with the same feeling- disappointed. We had high expectations as the waitress explained the menu and gave great reviews of certain dishes. We ordered a bottle of wine and had pre-Dinner cocktails which was very good. We started with the arancini and they were good, but nothing fabulous. We then split the gnocchi and I had pork, my husband had the steak. Our friends got the salmon special and lasagna. We all had the same general thoughts, that the food was just “OK.” One issue was that each plate had whole cloves of garlic- not one, multiple cloves on each plate. Sure, it’s a sort of edible garnish, but it really led to an overbearing flavor that took over each dish. My pork was dry and flavorless and my husband said his steak was just OK. The ambiance is beautiful and the service was great, but for the price point, there are much better Italian restaurants in Raleigh. We probably would not go here again.
This place is a gateway to downtown if you're coming from the north and we have forever wanted to try it. Dined there last Friday night and it was a TOP NOTCH experience. Funky 150 year old building with great funky decor. Not an extensive menu but well appointed. My wife had a fabulous boneless breast of chicken that was artistically served with the bone-in wing drumette attached....excellent potatoes and string bean accompaniment. I had the house made pasta with bolognese - fabulous. Friendly, prompt, informative server. Prices don't break the bank. We will be back.
Poor Food all around. We had lamb shank with something I think was supposed to be risotto but apparently it was some other indigestible starchy accompaniment. The bruschetta was not even grilled .Lasagna was runny and something I would have been better off getting in the frozen food section of the grocery store.
This place is really a nice venue but incredibly disappointing
Beautiful space inside and out. The food is authentic Italian and delicious (the seafood pasta dish I ordered didn’t have much flavor but I sampled everyone else’s entree and we also ordered countless apps and I was extremely pleased with everything else). Each person we interacted with went above and beyond with customer service.
Let me preface this by saying that the food was delicious, and, Eric our waiter was very good. Three of us went for a birthday dinner and a special evening as we're old friends who don't get together that often. We arrived at 7:00 and told him we weren't in a hurry but after we had cocktails and appetizers, we ordered our dinners around 7:45. It was almost 1 1/2 hours until our meals were served. People came in, were seated and ate, payed and left and we still didn't have entrees. Eric came back one time and asked again what we had ordered as he thought there was a mix up in the kitchen. Time passed and he brought us a complimentary drink. Another waiter and the manager came by and we explained to each we still hadn't received our dinners. More time passed and finally we were served our meals (which were delicious)The staff were nice as they could be and granted the restaurant was busy but that shouldn't have caused that type of delay. By the time we finished it was 10:00. They even comped dessert but when 3 people spend $225 for dinner you shouldn't have to wait that long to eat. Luckily we weren't in a hurry. Overall, enjoyed the experience but given all the dining options in the Triangle I'm doubtful I would return.
We have dined here several times now and have never been disappointed, the service, the food, have always been excellent. Also their bartender’s make excellent cocktails. The restaurant has a cozy feel inside, and out one of the best patios for dining in the state. Our favorites on the menu are lamb shank, spaghetti carbonara, Lasagna, and Zuppa.
The service was, by far, some of the best we’ve had. We loved how the owners worked with their staff - no job was too small for them. They served us wine, they brought dinners to patrons personally and they wiped down tables (all in very nice suits!).
The staff was friendly, helpful, lively and honest. If something wasn’t their favorite, they told us. Our waitress was attentive and upbeat.
The food was great. The lasagna was the best I’ve ever had and we will return solely for that dish. Oh and of course the charcuterie plate and desserts were incredible as well!! We truly enjoyed ourselves.
This place is a true gem! The service staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The bartender (Chazz or Chase I can't remember) is friendly and helpful. The GM Giuseppe remembers you from the previous visit. The Chef Paolo is one of the best Italian food chefs in the Triangle. The wine list is one of the best Italian wine lists I have seen in a while. This is the closest one could get to authentic Italian food outside of Italy.
Dishes to try: Rigatoni Amatriciana, Octopus, Lamb Shank and any dessert they offer
Food was excellent. Octopus appetizer, Bolognese pasta with Egg Noodles!, pizza, drinks, tiramisu!
Negative is that they advertise bread basket but had to beg for it and noticed most tables around us never got any. And I was shamed for asking for butter. They did bring it and it was wonderful and garlic flavored but really if I don't like oil why do I have to apologize and be told not to tell the Matre D that I asked for butter. Yes he's from Italy but I'm from US and I like butter over liquid oil.
Octopus was very good but not served as pictured at all. Was chunks in a sauce not a full laid out fish.
Waiter was excellent, attentive, suggestive.
Spanish guitar live music. Outside very romantic. Inside very noisy so we went outside. Negative outside is that even though we had a reservation which requested a booth we were told no booths and no regular tables. Had to sit at a bar top with backless straw (yes backless straw!) stools for a $150 dinner! Husband did go over and take a stool with a back and carry it over himself. Normal bar stools were just lined up against the wall not being used?
So basically, food is wonderful, atmosphere excellent, music good, waiter good but customer is "not always right".
It was the worst experience I have had ever in any restaurant. We waited for more than fifteen minutes after being seated for our server to grace us with his/her presence but I guess it’s not enough to be a paying customer at this restaurant to expect such luxuries. No one showed up but they were quick to greet and serve another guest immediately after their arrival ignoring us being seated next to them. This was unacceptable and we decided to leave. I also took the trouble to let the hostess know about this but she seemed to have better things to do than to have the decency to apologize. Forget about being sorry, she didn’t think it important enough to make use of her vocal cords to respond to my complaint. I strongly urge other patrons to not waste their valueable time in even considering this place. Absolutely disgraceful behavior on the part of the restaurant.
