Mulino Italian Kitchen & Bar Ratings and Reviews
Let me preface this by saying that the food was delicious, and, Eric our waiter was very good. Three of us went for a birthday dinner and a special evening as we're old friends who don't get together that often. We arrived at 7:00 and told him we weren't in a hurry but after we had cocktails and appetizers, we ordered our dinners around 7:45. It was almost 1 1/2 hours until our meals were served. People came in, were seated and ate, payed and left and we still didn't have entrees. Eric came back one time and asked again what we had ordered as he thought there was a mix up in the kitchen. Time passed and he brought us a complimentary drink. Another waiter and the manager came by and we explained to each we still hadn't received our dinners. More time passed and finally we were served our meals (which were delicious)The staff were nice as they could be and granted the restaurant was busy but that shouldn't have caused that type of delay. By the time we finished it was 10:00. They even comped dessert but when 3 people spend $225 for dinner you shouldn't have to wait that long to eat. Luckily we weren't in a hurry. Overall, enjoyed the experience but given all the dining options in the Triangle I'm doubtful I would return.
We have dined here several times now and have never been disappointed, the service, the food, have always been excellent. Also their bartender’s make excellent cocktails. The restaurant has a cozy feel inside, and out one of the best patios for dining in the state. Our favorites on the menu are lamb shank, spaghetti carbonara, Lasagna, and Zuppa.
The service was, by far, some of the best we’ve had. We loved how the owners worked with their staff - no job was too small for them. They served us wine, they brought dinners to patrons personally and they wiped down tables (all in very nice suits!).
The staff was friendly, helpful, lively and honest. If something wasn’t their favorite, they told us. Our waitress was attentive and upbeat.
The food was great. The lasagna was the best I’ve ever had and we will return solely for that dish. Oh and of course the charcuterie plate and desserts were incredible as well!! We truly enjoyed ourselves.
This place is a true gem! The service staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The bartender (Chazz or Chase I can't remember) is friendly and helpful. The GM Giuseppe remembers you from the previous visit. The Chef Paolo is one of the best Italian food chefs in the Triangle. The wine list is one of the best Italian wine lists I have seen in a while. This is the closest one could get to authentic Italian food outside of Italy.
Dishes to try: Rigatoni Amatriciana, Octopus, Lamb Shank and any dessert they offer
Food was excellent. Octopus appetizer, Bolognese pasta with Egg Noodles!, pizza, drinks, tiramisu!
Negative is that they advertise bread basket but had to beg for it and noticed most tables around us never got any. And I was shamed for asking for butter. They did bring it and it was wonderful and garlic flavored but really if I don't like oil why do I have to apologize and be told not to tell the Matre D that I asked for butter. Yes he's from Italy but I'm from US and I like butter over liquid oil.
Octopus was very good but not served as pictured at all. Was chunks in a sauce not a full laid out fish.
Waiter was excellent, attentive, suggestive.
Spanish guitar live music. Outside very romantic. Inside very noisy so we went outside. Negative outside is that even though we had a reservation which requested a booth we were told no booths and no regular tables. Had to sit at a bar top with backless straw (yes backless straw!) stools for a $150 dinner! Husband did go over and take a stool with a back and carry it over himself. Normal bar stools were just lined up against the wall not being used?
So basically, food is wonderful, atmosphere excellent, music good, waiter good but customer is "not always right".
It was the worst experience I have had ever in any restaurant. We waited for more than fifteen minutes after being seated for our server to grace us with his/her presence but I guess it’s not enough to be a paying customer at this restaurant to expect such luxuries. No one showed up but they were quick to greet and serve another guest immediately after their arrival ignoring us being seated next to them. This was unacceptable and we decided to leave. I also took the trouble to let the hostess know about this but she seemed to have better things to do than to have the decency to apologize. Forget about being sorry, she didn’t think it important enough to make use of her vocal cords to respond to my complaint. I strongly urge other patrons to not waste their valueable time in even considering this place. Absolutely disgraceful behavior on the part of the restaurant.
This is a special restaurant, one to put on your Raleigh “must-do” list. First, the setting is special and very inviting. Second, the menu is authentic Italian, meaning the meal is traditional in that it is intended ( and best received) in phases. So plan on an appetizer, a primi and a second I, as well as a dolce at the end. This is NOT American Italian — this is a beautiful slice of Italy in Raleigh. We will be back whenever we visit!
Four of us dined at Mulino this past Wednesday. One of our party had been there before and recommended the restaurant. We were not disappointed. We had outdoor seating (as requested) overlooking the large pool, some of the Raleigh skyline and a huge fall moon. A perfect setting for a long-overdue get together. Although we were outdoors we were able to have a conversation easily. Our server was very attentive and professional. We didn't feel rushed and were given ample time to eat, drink and talk. We tried several appetizers, four different entrees as well as all of the desserts! We were able to taste each other's selections so we have an idea what we would like to order the next time we visit Mulino. The restaurant is not inexpensive and the portions are not large but the prices are in keeping with an upscale downtown restaurant. The atmosphere and location (a bit tricky to find) and the availability of onsite parking is a big plus. We will be back!
Three couples dining out and we had a great time at Mulino. The food and service were excellent. The inside, where we sat is lovely and quiet. There is also seating outside on the patio which is very pretty. The parking lot was crowded due to a wedding reception going on upstairs but there is Valet Parking. All in all I highly recommend Mulino for a delicious meal and a fun night out in Raleigh.
We were wowed by the ambience and the appetizers. After that it went downhill. Although the waiter made a point to explain the menu was authentic Italian, we only fully understood when our pasta dishes arrived in a much smaller
portion than expected. I guess in Italy the pasta dishes aren’t entrees. We ended up ordering a pizza because we were still hungry and were even more disappointed when it arrived looking weighted down with greasy cheese. I would only return for appetizers and drinks.
We were very disappointed in the place. The heaters were too hot, the meals were cold, the steak was awful, the pasta dry, I can go on..but it is not Babylon and the background music was loud. The waitress tried but I am sure this place will not survive as is. This was my 2nd meal there..and the menu is mediocre. I usually dont write negative stuff but they sent me an email to review so here it is.
The ambiance is great, a reclaimed factory making the internal restaurant look like a classic Italian Hotspot. An outdoor sitting area that's heated. The wines are mostly Italian. The food though is bland at best, lacking in flavor or creativity. The bruscetta was one with cherry tomatoes but others with just cheese or pancetta. Tomatoes were sour, tomato sauce had no flavor. Avoid, unless you want to have your boys revoke dinner choice privileges.
This is a place we drove by regularly but never seemed to visit. That changed the other evening and we were very happy we finally did. The food was very good as was the service. We sat inside but the next time if the weather is good we will sit outside. The patio looked great -- big, its own bar, a pool, and lots of different seating arrangements from couples to groups. We had the lamb shank, which was excellent, and the zuppa de pesce which was very good. We shared a good spaghetti carbonara. The wines are good and priced correctly. There were lots of things on the menu we will go back for. This is an easy, fun, good place for couples, friends, and groups.
I liked but didn't love Mulino's. The decor is fabulous, and our server was excellent with the exception of one period when we were finished but no check appeared for quite a long time. The menu is good, but there were few healthful options - most dishes had some element of meat, which was a problem as a vegetarian, and the veg options were all pastas or fried. I did really enjoy the salad with the burrata, and my husband liked the fruti di mare but thought it was pretty thin on seafood.
I'd think of going back, but I wasn't entirely wowed.
Nice ambience especially if you like repurposed old factories like we do. this one was a linen mill. We are inside because Sunday was rainy but would love to come back and enjoy the outdoor seating sometime. There is bar food which is nice. Very attentive service and friendly people.
There is no better atmosphere and ambiance than Mulino. It is a beautiful restaurant with an equally great view of the Raleigh skyline when you are seated outside in the courtyard. The food is excellent. It seems to be freshly made and not processed. The service is very good as well. I have been several times and the experience has been consistently excellent. I highly recommend it!
