The food was excellent and service was friendly, but slow. Beautiful and creative decor, but the buzz of conversations a bit loud. Great for a casual gathering of friends for a great meal.
A little loud but lovely decorations and good food. I
We went on a Thursday night about 7 and the restaurant had only about 4 tables of people. A few more came during our stay. The drinks tasted watered down. The fried chicken was good but the mac and cheese that came with it was cold. Service was ok but the person who delivered our food did not clear starter plates first so there was no where to set the food. It took a while before our waiter returned to check on things and take a new beverage order.
Dropped in after a lecture on the Great Migration at the Smithsonian. Was surprised at how empty the restaurant was even for late on a Wednesday evening.
Service was efficient and friendly.
My girlfriend noted that on our last visit we saw Dick Gregory at another table and she regretted that she hadn't walked over to greet him. That became poignant when the comedian died a few days later.
The food was OK--nothing to right home about. The service was good at the beginning, but as more customer came in, we were forgotten. We had to wait 25 minutes just to see the waiter to get the check.
Mulebone never fails. Our waitress was amazing. She was friendly, attentive, and ensured our meals were to our liking. Service was prompt.
We went for Saturday brunch. We were a little early at 10:30 and the place was pretty empty, but filled up soon after. The food was very good, with generous helpings of potatoes and big, fluffy biscuits. I ordered the bubbly punch which was very good (& strong). I didn't do the bottomless but I would say for the quality of the drinks it is worth the $15. The service was a bit slow, and after the food came out our waitress never came back to check on us, so some of my friends were unable to order drinks since they hadn't ordered them at the beginning. In general it was hard to flag down staff. Overall it was a good brunch experience and I will be back.
Fantastic food and creative beverages. Mulebone was the culinary highlight of my families recent vacation to the D.C. area. If I could make only one recommendation, it would be the catfish; if I could afford it, I would have sampled it all. We ordered quite a few items from the eclectic menu, each just as impressive as the last. I suggest anyone who has the time give this establishment a go.
Great service, solid food, and really cool atmosphere. I'd love to eat here again.
Great food and drinks with authentic southern flavor. Service was disorganized and inconsistent, like there were still things to be worked out. More than one person took our drink order, which came out wrong. Food wait time was reasonable. Biscuits are amazing, btw. Throughout dinner, service was sparse and we had to flag down other servers. Overall, the food and drinks made it a great brunch.
I ♥ this place!
The food was awesome! Hot, fresh and very tasty! The only issue was the SLOW service. The restaurant was not crowded but our service was very slow. The fried green tomatoes were delicious and the macaroni and cheese taste like home!!! I would go there again, hopefully I'll get faster service.
Filled with screaming millennials, this overpriced and underwhelming spot serves boring cold food in an unpleasant environment. The service, however, is very good.
Since opening as Eatonville, I have frequented this establishment. The food was always delicious and never disappointed. I have had birthday dinners, book club meetings and dates with my husband. I have recommended to countless friends and family and everyone has always given me great comments. As Mulebone, there has not been a change. Keep on doing what you are doing. We Love You!!!!
The ambiance and atmosphere is great! The energy is lively, and the environment is a great one to have a fun meal. The service is highly attentive and fun. The food is soul-focused -- good, but not outstanding. For brunch, the coffee options are limited to basic coffee or iced coffee, not fancier, more-nuanced options of coffee and tea specialties. I recommend sitting inside for the atmosphere; however, there is also outdoor patio seating. This can be a slower meal, so don't go if you're in a rush. Plan to chat with the waitress, chat with your friends, and have a slow Southern experience.
While he food was good, have never received worse service, our waiter was inattentive, failed to bring us our drinks until after our food had already arrived and was unapologetic and rude. Would not return.
We were getting together with friends and thoroughly enjoyed our first experience at Mulebone! The waiter was very accommodating and did not rush us as we worked our way through Acts I, II and III. The food was very good and we will definitely go back!
The hostess was great at helping me select items for my nephews since they don't have a kid's menu.
Had a group of 18 staff was very nice very friendly however things were a little bit slow in getting our drinks
It's a big place, so it wasn't difficult to make a reservation for a brunch one day before. I'll definitely keep it as an option for the future.
Friendly staff and very accommodating for a larger birthday group with extra guests showing up last minute. Fun cocktails and beers.
Great food, I had the HECB and it was amazing! Drinks are really good too, especially the Bourbon punch! Service for drinks was slow but I think it was a one-time issue..
Overall, the food was very good but for a repeat brunch place the service was just slow and it didn't seem to bother any of the serves/staff. Drink re-fills disappointing. In a city with so many good brunch places it would be hard for me to recommend Mulebone to a large group.
I love this place. The chicken and pancakes are amazing! And order the biscuits!
First time visiting under new ownership. Was disappointed with the service. You could tell the staff was still getting into a rhythm and they weren't familiar with the menu. They did try to make amends and complimented some of our drinks. My friend is allergic to shell fish and the cook agreed to substitute chicken in place of the shrimp in the Shrimp and Grits. I looked so declicious, they should add it to the menu as an option.
Overall all of us enjoyed our meals and the drinks were good. Mulebone should now focus on the speed if ther service delivery and spend time educating their staff on what they have to offer.
Room was very loud& busy and service was not great. Drinks arrived after food, seating numbers were wrong, tables werent ready at reservation; not typical service at all. Guests werent pleased despite our great tipping- likely wont return.
Perfect atmosphere, service and food! We had a great time!
The food was so good and the place looks great!
We celebrated Father's Day at Mulebone with a late afternoon family dinner for which we had high expectations, given Mulebone's reputation for American fare with a Southern accent, much like the guest of honor who hales from Richmond. The high point was the food. We shared an order of the oysters and kale salad and the brussels sprouts, both starting with (a rich creamy shrimp and grits dish which we all proclaimed as one of the best we'd ever tasted, both the trout and pan-seared sea bass dishes were prepared very well, and the fried chicken-properly seasoned, spicy, delicious. Then there's the service. The service, or its lack, for the first 18+ minutes after we were seated perplexed us, as they had our 5 pm reservation and a table seated after us had service. It seemed as if no one had been assigned to our table. Not until we asked a passing staff person if she'd find who was our waitperson did anyone come by to see if we needed anything. From then on, several staff quickly brought our water and took our drinks and then food order. In fact, because of the attentive service we received after the poor start, we think there must have been a communication failure between host and wait staff for our table. It shouldn't happen, and staff made great efforts to meet our needs once we got their attention. We liked the bold colors and decor of the high ceiling dining room--reminded us of a jazz restaurant we'd enjoyed in New Orleans. Upon learning of the multipurpose intent of the physical space, a restaurant co-existing with Share-Space, we felt that our experience had been expanded as well. It was a memorable Father's Day for us all.
The food was a total disappointment. I ordered a smoked trout omelet where both the fish and eggs were totally overcooked and dry. I definitely could have made a more delicious breakfast for myself at home, which is never a good sign. I also ended up paying close to $20 for an omelet and a cup of coffee. Not very affordable for what it is.
Went with the family for father's day and my husband thoroughly enjoyed the chicken and pancakes. Everything was fresh and well seasoned. I'm not usually one for gluten free anything, but the doughnut holes were pretty delicious. Ran into a minor hiccup with the bill - charged $45 for a $15 item; but it was cleared up quickly and without any issues. We will return.
Get the biscuits.
My dining experience at Mulebone was not great. The waitress service was very slow. For example, to start off, my party ordered two beers and an appetizer. The appetizer came out quickly; however, the beers arrived well after I had finished eating my entree. Yes, the beers came well after my entree was finished, even though I ordered the beer with the appetizer. Attempts to get a refill on water was a "nothing doing." I asked the waitress at least three times for a water refill and finally I got water. I would not recommend this restaurant if you have time-sensitive plans after you eat. Service is very slow (I mean slow), but the food was good.
Not enough wait staff...food took entirely too long. We waited 20mins before anyone came to take an order. We sat at 8:20 and left at 10:30 due to how long the food took and slow staff.
Love the catfish appetizer, fried chicken and bourbon ice cream. The Mulebone burger and mac-n-cheese are also tasty.
great food and drinks, had the applewood steak and a couple of hockbones and I was more than satisfied.
Very good food at a reasonable price. Lots of veggie options and some menu items not seen at other restaurants. I'd go back again.
We sat outside and it was really nice. The food was great!😀
Sat outside and it smelled like sewage, was extremely distracting during the entire meal. No music outside, completely silent. Inside looked much more lively.
Food was awesome. I love the art work and the bottomless brunch drinks were great.
