Mudhen is a healthy option for a Sunday brunch or a dinner before the show. They offer juices, local veggies and meats.
It can get crowded, and a bit loud, but it is a lot of fun.
The service there is normally exceptional, but it was terrible on Sunday. I couldn't tell you our servers name b/c she didn't introduce herself (maybe Kiki from the check??) She rudely told us she couldn't serve a mimosa before noon on Sunday (we were seated at 1130 for an 1115 reservation) unless there was food on the table. The TABC rule is in fact that you can serve at 10 am on Sunday with the service of food. So, we ordered coffee and waited for our drinks until the food came b/c she was hell bent on this rule that wasn't right. It was 20 minutes until the coffee came, and then only after we asked for it. The food was amazing as always, just a super disappointing service experience. We were seated at the far corner table in the Sun Room, near the patio.
Mudhen was good but very loud. We were next to a table of about 12 and the parents let the kids run wild. Never good.
I've been to Mudhen a few times now--both for weekend brunch and dinner. The food has been really good. I find their serving sizes generous but not over the top. I will say the mimosas we had on our recent Sunday brunch visit were pleasantly oversized--even when you order the smaller of the two size options. They come in the old ball canning jars. Tasty and lasted us the whole brunch. The menu is creative and seems to have something for everyone. You can be vegan, vegetarian or a carnivore. Of the four I came with we all ordered something different. And we all enjoyed our meals. Noise level can make it hard to talk if you come during a popular time--like Sunday brunch. But I've also been here on a quiet weeknight for dinner where conversation was easy.
Lots of healthy options... nice portions
The food here is excellent but the service is uneven, always seems to be confusion at the hostess stand. The wait staff was understaffed so the service was extremely slow, fortunately the food is excellent so I will be back.
Mudhen had a very fun and spunky atmosphere. We went for Easter Brunch and were not disappointed. The meals were interesting and inspired along with being very tasty. The cocktails we had were also exceptional. We were seated outside and their patio set up is very nice. The one downside to it, is it's proximity to the road which sometimes can get a little bit noisy. They did us more than 15 minutes earlier than our reservation which was fantastic considering we were there for Easter Brunch.
When all was said and done all the members of my party had an excellent time and I strongly recommend that people check out this fantastic dinning spot.
We went there for brunch and everyone loved their meals. The Enchilada Stack was amazing. The spicy Bloody Mary's were very spicy - think fresh jalapenos - but were awesome! We will definitely be going back.
Outstanding fresh food. The only downside is the build a bowl was not available and is my favorite there. Only available for lunch.
I love Mudhen but when I make a reservation on opentable and call and talk to the reservation person I expect what we talked about to be done ahead of time NOT when I arrive and have to wait for it to be done as if I was a walkin.
Second time here and it was awesome! My boyfriend’s fave brunch spot!
This place was awesome. My friend and I were there on business and I just happened to drive by and see the name: Mudhen - Meat and Greens...since we both follow a paleo lifestyle, I knew this was the place for us! IT WAS DELICIOUS...bone broth on the menu, local seasonal vegetables, grass fed meats, crazy good sauces...AWESOME. We wanted to sit outside, but there was a wait, so we sat inside. Inside was cold and noisy, and you couldn't really have a deep or private conversation because all tables are out in the open...no wonder there was a wait to sit outside! Nevertheless, highly recommend.

There was an event ending at Farmers Market so we had a little problem parking. But once we got into Mudhen it was worth the trouble. Local sourced vegetables were featured along with some more healthy choices. Everyone loved their dishes. Our only issue was slow service, we kept having to flag someone down. Considering how few people were at restaurant not sure why we had the problem. Definitely a go to location downtown
Great farm to table dining options from vegetarian to meat dishes. Local farm food and fresh, seasonal vegetables.
Located in the Farmers Market district which continues to be a vibrant area.
The server we had was pleasant and never made us feel rushed.
Service was painfully slow. I think our waitress was overloaded which caused things to take longer that they should. The people that arrived after us were served food before us even though we ordered prior to them.
Delicious! Can’t wait to go again. We were looking for a place good for gluten-free, vegetarians, and meat eaters. There was something for everyone here and our plates were left clean. It was pretty busy on Sunday so I suggest making reservations.
Drove from Oklahoma City for the weekend. Wanted somewhere with a good brunch! Very impressed, it had a nice vibe, good food and great service. Would recommend the crack coffee.
Great food! Fresh and well prepared. They carefully took care of our many food allergies.
Out-of-towners trying Mudhen for the first time. I went with the evening special, which was a cod filet on a bed of butternut squash puree. My son ordered the tomahawk pork chop, which came out slightly undercooked but the staff promptly returned it to the oven for a little longer. Everything was delicious and we could not have asked for better service. Our waitress was well informed and very knowledgeable about the menu items. If you are a coffee drinker, I highly recommend trying their Crack Coffee. We will be back the next time we are in Dallas.
Brunch is great! We love this place!
Love this place! It's super cute, in the heart of the farmers market.
This was our second visit to Mudhen, the first being shortly after they opened. Food after the first visit was mediocre - for me a salad with few toppings. We decided to try it again, this time for dinner. Unfortunately, our experience was negative. It began with the service. Waitress appeared fairly soon after we were seated, but, unfortunately, after that, only when we called her over. Only one of us ordered a drink, but, although it appeared on the check, it never did at the table. Food was even more of a disappointment. Steak ordered medium rare was rare. Salmon ordered medium was likewise quite rare. When we asked to have the salmon cooked to medium, it came back cooked well (with a rude comment from the server that it should have been ordered well done to begin with). Altogether, an experience that we will not repeat.
The server was very accommodating and friendly. The food was excellent. I also loved the coffee and Kirby.
Vegetarian bowls are insanely overpriced. Built one with 5 vegetables - quinoa, black beans, sweet potato, broccolini and spinach and it cost $25!
I could have a full weeks supply of all of those for that price. Flavor was bland and boring. Never again!
My wife liked her brunch entree. She had egg and tortilla dish. I tried it and it was good. It had cauliflower in it. I ordered cheese burger medium rare. It was barely cooked! Some of the sweet potato chips were soggy.
Awesome. Great food, location, and ambiance.
First time in Dallas and being a picky eater, I searched for good places that offered a farm-to-table experience. Mudhen definitely delivered: seasonal foods, locally sourced meats, nice locale directly next to the Dallas farmer's market in Downtown Dallas, excellent service and nicely decorated interior, it was easily a hit. And affordable too! I had to have the burger (gluten free bun option! Fantastic burger!), the bone broth, the chococado-mousse (GF, DF, sugar-free!!!), and one of the juices. The food was so good, two of my friends got two entrees! We were stuffed. Needless to say, I can't wait to come back another time, especially during the summer or daytime, when the market is buzzing.
The best place for fresh locally sourced food at a reasonable price. This time I had the hangar steak and it was delicious.
Great service. Food was delicious. Had vegan guests with us who said they would like to go back again. Tomahawk pork chop was so good my son ate it off my plate along with his cheeseburger. Deviled eggs were good appetizer. Dessert wasn't quite as delightful but were vegan.
Food was amazing and full of flavor. They make everything with fresh ingredients from the farmers market next door so it tastes great. Worth every penny.
Very pricey and the service was not good. The waiter barely came and checked in us
Mikaela was such a superb server; she’s THE BEST!!
Breakfast was good. My dish could have been better looking, but tasted yummy.
My first time at Mudhen. The food was great and definitely fresh/clean eating. The service was good but at times a little slow. I plan to dine here again soon!
I am a carnivore and was disappointed. It is a vegetarian-focused place and their non-veg options were not good at all. I had a beef burger. The beef patty had little flavor, and there were large seeds (pumpkin?) in the buns that gave each bite a weird texture. The deviled eggs also had very little flavor. A bit of paprika on them would have gone a long way. Worst off though, the service was horrendous. I had to go to the bar to get beer and wine refills since our waitress was ignoring us, and the gentleman sitting at the table next to us had to go to the bar to pay his bill for the same reason. Don't waste your time or money, there are far better options out there.
I love that the Mudhen uses local, organic ingredients from the Dallas Farmer's Market. I have dined here several times and never been disappointed. However, the Vegan Valentin's Tasting Menu stands out as the best dining I have had at the Mudhen. Highly recommend! Also love the birdfeeders and hanging plants and the great view of downtown from the covered outdoor patio.
Great restaurant!! Brunch on Sunday was terrific!! Highly recommend!
Great spot for brunch! Mimosa carafe is wonderful!!
Our meals here were good as was the service. Our group had various dietary restrictions and we were all able to order meals that satisfied us all. The coffee was actually something I was looking forward to, but it turned out a bit burnt tasting. Our server was very accommodating of our needs and we were happy with her. The bill was $120 for 5 people at brunch, before tip, which seemed fairly reasonable...maybe a bit on the high side for our meals. We arrived at 10am on Saturday morning and think that's an ideal brunch time; the restaurant was very full and much, much louder by 11am when we were wrapping up.
Always awesome, creatively concocted, delicious delectable. The food is super fresh and not over-thought; each ingredient speaks for itself and is harmonious within the dish. All staff are accommodating g and friendly. Wonderful location. You get a meal and an adventure at the Farmers Market!
