Mu offers ramen and other recipes prepared with New York influences. Originally starting out as a late-night pop-up eatery in Long Island City, owner and chef Joshua Smookler combines fresh, high quality ingredients into memorable meals. Dinners at Mu Ramen can start with selections from the treats offerings, which include charred edamame, okonomiyaki, tebasaki gyoza and U.N.I. Ramen choices include tonkotsu, spicy miso, and shoyu.

Walk ins are always welcome.

Everything about Mu Ramen is great. But the food (ramen and beyond) is what sets it apart. Everything you eat here is the best version of that thing. Love love love.

The broth is amazing. The meat texture is on point, plus a special smoky flavor to it. Very unique ramen place

What an amazing gem in LIC. Great service and ambience and delicious food. For the two of us, we shared 4 appetizers and one ramen. The fried rice and the ramen were cooked to perfection, I don't think I can eat either at any other place. Lobster XO was so delicious, just a balance of amazing flavors of the lemon grass and grapefruit with tender lobster in a broth. Finally we had the fried chicken and the manila clams that came with a nice spicy dipping sauce. Great for date night or casual dinner, we will be back. My only ask would be to put the music just a notch down, it wouldn't take away from the ambience and wouldn't be so distracting. Other than that, five stars all the way!

Second time here. We did make it in for Valentine's this time around. Not sure if the setup of the place was switched up but I felt it waaaaay smaller than last time. Still would come back for the food quality. Best ramen ever.

So this is my favorite ramen spot in all of nyc BUT since the owners redid the set-up, I kept getting bumped in my seat and they rushed us. Even before finishing appetizers that had brought our ramen. In addition, they brought our check without us even fully finishing our meal. Honestly turned me off of the amazing restaurant for a bit.

MICHELIN2020! Congrats and well deserved! So glad we came in on a Saturday and had the PRIME RIB-so tender and flavorful, potatoes were yummy and creamed spinach was one of the best we’ve ever had! LOBSTER XO looks delicate but had just the right kick. TEBASAKI GYOZA was melt in your mouth delicious. All of the ramen were so tasty in their individual broth but my favorite will always be the SHOYU...Great food, cozy atmosphere and super friendly and attentive hostess/staff...5 stars all the way!

Good food, situated near the door so it was cold every time some opened it. They need an air curtain over the door to help with that. Very good service.

It was great ! Place is busy and very lively. People are in and out constantly. I wish the place was bigger and had a waiting area for people who come in earlier than their reservation time. Also wished it had a separate bar area.

Overall food was satisfactory. But before you go mind these details.
1) Cash only
2) You get charged for a container for leftovers
3) They charge for an egg in the ramen (2.5 dollars) and DON'T EVEN BOTHER TO TELL YOU ABOUT THE UP-CHARGE.

Yes I would recommend this location for a good ramen. The service was horrible, you got a very unprofessional host and same time waitress. Like I know this place is a popular spot for ramen but you don’t rush and treat the customers like they’re just a piece of crap. I hope she gets fired that’s how bad it was. I don’t really leave reviews but I think this time around i need leave a note for the restaurant. Not sure if I would ever go back but food was great.

The hype is real. This Michelin recommended (not starred) restaurant serves truly superb food. I will use a Yogism to locate this restaurant. Nobody goes there, because they can’t find it. The restaurant is sited in an industrial area and completely unmarked: no name nor address displayed. It was only the required New York City sanitation grade posted in the front window that carried the restaurant’s name. The restaurant décor is a chic industrial with clean steel and wood furniture on a grey concrete floor. The chefs may be Japanese, but the serving staff is immigrants from around the world; while pleasant, many are clueless as how to wait tables. Nothing is classic Japanese about this restaurant. The food is best described as Fusion Japanese. It is of course known for its Raman. The basic pork stock is creamy and densely flavorful; the noodles angel hair pasta and the various Ramans have different mix-ins. The appetizers are eclectic: I had deboned deep fried chicken wings stuffed with foie gras. My wife had Manila clams in sauce more flavorful than any classic French preparation, our niece kimchee fried rice: all dishes rated five stars.

Bring Cash – they don’t want to pay taxes and so don’t accept credit cards.

We purposely made our first trip to Mu Ramen specifically for the prime rib only severed on Saturday night as our friend Brian tipped us off on this. He knows how much I LOVE this cut of beef.

We started our night off with the hamachi crudo. It was incredibly fresh and the combination of the thinly sliced serrano with the zest of the ponzu sauce provided the perfect punch. We also had the seared foie gras with bone marrow brioche, quince, gaufrette. Of course the foie gras was divine as usual and the bone marrow brioche was a perfect marriage. Unfortunately we thought the quince was a little overwhelming and plated a little heavy-handed. We still enjoyed both our starters but thought the $28 price for each was a little steep for the portions.

Now comes the piece de resistance. The meat of all meats for me. The excellent server explained that they are now serving the prime rib off the bone and of course therefore would be a little thinner portion. As you can see in the picture it was perfectly prepared so I quickly dismissed the fact that it was off bone. The accompaniment of pomme purée and creamed spinach was delicious. The prime rib itself lacked a little of the prime rib richness that I am accustomed to. I'm not sure how to put my finger on this other than that they use aged prime beef and I'm not sure how that changes the flavor of this staple. For true prime beef lovers I'm not sure it will be your "go to" but it is still delicious and well prepared. Once again though I think $79 for this portion off bone is on the high end.

The restaurant itself is very hip and industrial in vibe. The open kitchen in the back of the narrow space is a great touch and the wait staff was great. We look forward to returning to Mu Ramen and trying the ramen next time.

You come here for the Ramen, at least most people do. But as the waitress enthusiastically explained, Saturday night is prime rib night, and the chef makes an amazing cut so tender it’s like slicing through butter. The foie gras appetizer was the perfect way to set the stage. Sound on a cold night? Fugedaboudit when it’s a Saturday at München Ramen. The only downside was the loudmouth at the table next to me who apparently thought his dinner companions were deaf and shouted his way through their meal, taking time out to comment on my dinner courses. After the first time, I gave him the stink eye and he finally shut up. His girlfriends turned to thank me. I should have asked for her phone number. 🤷‍♂️
