Me. Chow is always a favorite. Everything about it is wonderful. You don’t go for value. You know it’s expensive but it’s the experience and the food is always amazing.
Mr Chow in Malibu is a fantastic place fro dinner. Two of us shared a vegetarian fried rice, walnut shrimp and filet mignon. If you order this combo, you will not be disappointed. The steak is a nice long sliced filet with a wonderful marinade. They are known for perfectly delicious fried rice and they deliver. The walnut shrimp were big and just right in a great sauce. We look forward to returning to try other dishes.
Excellent food and good but haphazard service (no waiter is assigned to your table). Chairs were unacceptably uncomfortable, which took away from the dining experience. Price was also unreasonably high - without alcohol, it will cost you about $100 per person and with alcohol about $150 per person. Interesting food experience, however, at that cost and discomfort, I do not necessarily recommend this restaurant.
Very expensive. No ambience. Bad lighting and we were persuaded by our server to order way more than we originally wanted because it would be more “economical” but by the end we realized we were just being sold into buying way more food than we needed. Food was good, but nothing outstanding. Wouldn’t go back or recommend
The food is fabulous, but the service always what puts the experience over the top. They treat my kids no differently than my wife and I. That’s hey we always come back.
Have only been to the one in BH. I didn’t even know thee was one in Malibu until my friend took me there! Love the selection of champagne by the glass. The crispy beef was great, the lettuce leaves was under whelming, not as good as the one I had in BH. The spare ribs were tasty but a bit dry and over cooked. The special Chow noodles were my favorite and the fried rice. The plum sauce was the best I put it on everything 🤗
A special occasion place for our family.
Wonderful food and great service.
Very pricey, but worth it.
Food was way to overpriced, but did taste good
This was our first experience at Mr. Chow's and we're sorry we waited so long to try it. The food was amazing, the service was great and being entertained by a chef who came out to the dining area and made the noodles was an added bonus.
Our waitress was very helpful in explaining the menu options and we were very happy with her recommendations. The lobster shumai, the shrimp fried rice and the duck were delicious. We will definitely be going back!
Fabulous. The dining experience the food and service was next to none.
Something odd going on here. A Mr. Chow that is 2/3 empty on a Saturday night. Must be poor management. Service is subpar, food just ok, men's bathroom has a very bad smell problem.
Had a wonderful time at Mr. Chow. Some things are a bit pricey, but the ambiance is worth it.
Good wasn’t great
We love it! I first ate there 37 years ago in Beverly Hills. Nothing has changed. Maybe the prices but it’s still a wonderful meal we like the Malibu location. We are always greeted by a friendly staff. The service is outstanding, The food is flavorful and fresh. It’s expensive but we feel worth it. The restaurant is beautifully designed and the food presentation matches it. We always leave happy. 👍🏻
Went to Mr. Chow for my son’s 27th birthday dinner. To begin, we were shocked that the place was almost empty, it’s tucked back in the far corner of Cross Creek, that didn’t bother us but it felt odd to be one of only three tables. The Maitre’d was wonderful, she was very polite and accommodating as were our servers. The maitre’d also helped us with the menu and made helpful suggestions. Following her advice we ordered the lobster shumai (marginal) and the lettuce cups with chicken (those were good) to start followed by the beef in some sauce (very tasty and tender), the sweet and sour shrimp (good) and the shrimp fried rice (no taste, practically just white rice with a touch of vegetable, no soy sauce or seasoning). They also brought out some green beans in a sweet sauce that were really nice. Our drinks were good though VERY weak, that didn’t bother us since we were driving but could bother someone looking for a real cocktail. Our dinner ended with a slice of chocolate cake with a candle to celebrate his night. (nice gesture yet the cake was very dry). All in all this Mr. Chow lives up to the reputation of the others of being in beautiful locations, with little to back it up. In summary:
Pros-Beautiful decor, (except for the stained carpet) and Great staff.
Cons-Fair food, weak drinks and high prices.
First time trying the Malibu location. This dining experience was truly divine. All the staff go above and beyond to ensure the utmost luxury comfort. I definitely will be dining here again.
Great service; attentive but not pushy; food perfect
Food was as good as it gets. Also, EXCELLENT chef show in dining room on noodle preparation Outstanding
the bartender was superb. Sent me my fav drink without my asking!!
Expensive and pretentious for supbar food.
The music played was too loud.
I would not recommend this place to anyone who’s looking for a fine dining experience.
Fantastic as always love it especially in the BU!
Sweet and sour chicken
Small portions with wildly out of proportion prices. Total joke.
Will not eat there again
This was truly the worst meal I have ever had. I thought it was unusual on a Sat night that it was empty,,but now I know why. The food was terrible. I had been to another Mr Chows in the past and it was fine. Everyone thought it was horrible and felt bad after.
We enjoyed our meal, but it was seriously overpriced.
It is always a wonderful dining experience...
We go to both the malibu and Beverly Hills locations. This one is quieter and mellow with just as good food. The manager Anessa is super sweet and takes wonderful care of us.
It was a perfect night in Malibu for some Chow- and the food and service were the best we’ve ever had at this remote Chinese restaurant in a high end shopping center in Malibu. The stars were out, the stars (well, a few of them) were there too, and there was nothing to spoil the view. Incredible spare ribs, great bar, try the duck and definitely make your own special menu.
Caution - this is for the 1%ers, but still less expensive and less aggressive than Nobu.
Great way to experience the country village life of the ‘Bu
I have eaten at Mr. Chow in Miami and in Las Vegas… Often tell my friends that Mr. chow is my favorite restaurant in the US… I travel internationally quite extensively and have dined in some wonderful restaurants. I was disappointed in Mr. chow Malibu and cannot recommend it. I created high expectations for my guests. The duck was very dry… The Xiao Long Bao was also dry ( not soupy inside) The squid ink noodles were way overcooked. It was a slow night there and we had a party of 7. With three very large men and four slight Asians… I pointed out to the hostess that the round table was quite small for the size of our party… She said in quite a dismissive way, that the table “would do” and we wouldn’t have a problem. At the time of our 730 reservation on a Monday night there was only one other table seated… We could’ve been moved just about anywhere. Through the course of our to our meal there were a total of three other tables sat. We spilled the one glass of wine and we’re constantly shuffling glasses and entrées to make room… Just not a comfortable table for the size of our party.
The food was pretty aunthenic, but similar dishes could be found at an average inexpensive restaurant in China. I would not say the quality at Mr. Chow is any higher. The service was also not great.
The food and service were outstanding. Having eaten at the Mr. Chow in NYC, I can say the service was just as good. The food was also of the same quality. We had the duck and everything was perfect. I was worried after having read some of the reviews of this location. But we found it to be a fabulous experience!!
Food, service , experience
Servers were friendly and unpretentious. I️ liked the demonstration of handmade noodles.
Excellent service & food & an extremely friendly, efficient staff. We dine there as often as we can.
A place way past it's prime. We spent $200 for two people with two drinks for bad Chinese food. The service was fine but the prices are ridiculous and the food is mediocre at best. Avoid!
Way too expensive. Restaurant was empty.
Me Chow has very a nice Chinese menu and the service and setting are great. HOWEVER, the prices are absolutely outrageous! $41 for a small a la carte plate of what is essentially orange chicken?! $17.50 for a bowl of steamed rice! The tab for my family of four was $340 before tip. This was for four appetizers and three entrees. My wife had one glass of wine and I had one beer. Crucifyingly expensive for food that is marginally superior to what we would get at PF Chang's. If you want a nice dinner in the Country Mart, I would stick with one of the other options if you care at all about value for money.
Food was completely average. Not at all worth the price.
We went there from my husband's birthday and had a great meal. We let the waiter pick the dishes for us and were not disappointed. Favorites were the spareribs and the chicken.
Horrible service, horrible food... definitely the worst mr chow i've ever been. I donnot recommend
Was for a bday...Service was good but overall we had a very bad experience with the food and the place. Was served cold chow Mein and old ribs. Expected much more from Mr. Chow.
