Not your typical neighborhood Chinese food restaurant. Food is a little cleaner (lighter not so heavy) and the restaurant is upscale. Expensive - but then the neighborhood is expensive too.

Incredibly busy restaurant, but very friendly staff. Food was excellent! I'd recommend it to anyone who doesn't mind a crowd and some noise.

I've never written a review for a restaurant, but my recent experience dining at Mr. Chow was so horrible, I feel compelled to say something. I had dined at this location over 10 years ago and the experience has entirely changed. At our recent meal, the service was completely erratic -- at least four different waiters in a flurry coming to our table at confusing times -- the food inedible (dumplings tasted as if they had been frozen, defrosted, then panfried), scallion pancakes tasted of undercooked donut pastry, and soup dumplings contained no soup, but instead a stiff miscellaneous filling attributed to pork (or at least we believe it was pork) -- and the surrounding environment was incredibly... strange. Loud music, furniture moving above our heads, food getting thrown down at our table in a messy rush on old faded plates and silver. All of this was so disappointing as what was once a posh environment for a sophisticated meal has turned into a frenzied night club of defrosted dumplings over loud music and expensive cocktails. Clearly this is a case of a once successful restaurant getting by on the coat-tails of what it once was. Do not go here.

we had Peking Duck for six people. Inexplicable it came with so many appetizers -none of them very good- it was hard to imagine how we would eat out duck.

The Duck was sliced as if my a hatchet- the fat was not rendered nor were there slices of crispy skin. What a total disappointment especially because of the rave reviews

Fixed menu, far too many tables, gave me the impression of being in an overly expensive Chinese take away

Visiting NYC for the first time and booked in to Mr Chow for valentines, the ambiance was fabulous and the food was outstanding. Although it was a set menu for valentines it did not disappoint. The mood was happy and the waiters and service was impeccable.

There was no mention of pre fix menu when we made reservations. So ended up having very limited vegetarian food.

The food was good (very authentic according to our Chinese friends), the service was attentive, but the pricing was very strange. We ordered four appetizers, four entrees and three side dishes (for four adults and two children). The price for the most expensive combination of appetizer and main course was less than the fixed price menu price - but when the bill came we had been charged for five fixed price meals. In all it probably cost us 30% more than we thought we would be paying ordering a la carte. No-one explained this upfront, so the bill was a bit of a shocker. Be warned.

I had a good experience the ambiance was nice. I had a 9pm reservation, but I had to wait a lil while. I don’t see the point of a reservation if you have to wait more than 10-15 mins. Besides the wait I had a great time!

I tried this famous Chinese restaurant with the restaurant week menu at a Friday evening. It’s not a typically Chinese restaurant. When I walked into the place, I felt it’s a steak house. The food is good not for me as a Chinese guest. Tasted like Panda Express. Very noisy and crowded. Very disappointed.

I believe everything was great until the end if the night when the waiter drop sauce onto my pants and jacket while clearing the things from the table. Now, i have an unexpected cleaners in which could have been avoided had he been a little less clumsy.

I be been to Mr. Chow-57 th quite a few times. twice before for restaurant week. This is the first time I felt rushed. I was afraid to put down my fork for fear someone would snatch it off the table. It was so bad that at one point a man was standing at the table and watched me take a last sip of my drink with his hand out to take it from me. We were served our dessert with the check and were out the door in less than an hour. If I wanted fast food I would have went to Mc Donalds, and I don’t eat fast food.
As always the food was delicious.

While the service was excellent, decor and food presentation nice, food quality decent, it's really over priced and overrated. Definitely not for the claustrophobic - the tables are squeezed in and packed tight. So tight that they have to move a table to let you in to sit and move it to get up.

They should find a larger location so we don't have to sit on top of strangers.

I wouldn't return.
