We had a big group to celebrate three birthday. We had a great table and great service. Food was good and we all had a good time.
I would recommend for a birthday celebration.
This is a great restaurant. We come here often - love their Caesar salad and pasta. I gave a low score for ambiance this time because a basketball game was on in the bar. Although there are doors separating it from the restaurant, they were kept open. The constant cheering, yelling, shouting, etc did not provide a pleasant ambiance for the dining room. Either you’re a dining establishment or a sports bar, but you can’t be both and expect the dining patrons to enjoy their experience.
Pretty good food. Plated well.
Server was efficient and attentive, but not very personable.
The server was excellent!!! Thank you!
I visit the Laguna area annually and always make a stop at Mozambique’s. The live music venue upstairs never disappoints. The “dance floor” is small but doesn’t seem to stop anyone from having a good time. This time I included dinner on the main floor and to my surprise and enjoyment also included live acoustic music. The meal and service was great.
Our waiter was great. The Chicken Liver and Seafood Ceviche were very good. The Ceviche actually had more fish than other ingredients. Pork Chop was one of the best I have had and the Sea Bass also. Flourless Chocolate Cake and coffee was tasty too. One of the better meals we have had lately.
Food is great! Service is great!
We really enjoy both menus but the happy hour is a great value and delicious. We love their Caesar salad - very fresh and light. Also their pasta is excellent.
Very good food and service. However I would not think this a sports bar, yet they had a huge TV in the dinning room playing a basketball game. Not the best for the atmosphere.
Sat in the bar ...4 folks...thought it was Mastro's pricing without the ambiance. Shrimp Cocktail 25 bucks....Drinks were fair in terms of quality....15 bucks a piece...Dine out every night wasn't worth the drive from Newport....band was good....lots of people dancing....
We love this place! We enjoyed the Caesar salad as well as the asparagus pasta with other veggies. We will be back!
We had a great Sunday lunch at Mozambique! We were on the rooftop and it was a beautiful day. The Bloody Marys were great, there was a good wine list and the food was excellent. We ordered the ahi burger and the salmon. Both were flavorful and perfectly cooked. Our server, Guy, was attentive and helpful. Will definitely come back next time we visit Laguna Beach.
We stayed in Laguna Beach for a wedding and 10 of us met at Mozambique the following day for lunch. I was able to add 3 more to our reservations just the day before through Opentable. They sat us up on the rooftop with an awesome view of the beach! Guy, our server, was awesome! He was attentive, helpful and conscious of our time constraint. The food was unique and tasty, it was definitely a great dining experience for us!
The happy hour menu is great. We especially love the Caesar salad - not drenched in dressing but just right. The beef sausage skewer is very tasty as is the pasta.
Great dinner experience, food taste very good, super service, great waitress.
Great food and service my wife and I had a nice Valentine
Our experience overall was superb! Can’t wait to go back
The experience was the best ever. The waiter was perfect. The food was incredible. For a set menu; it was over our high expectations. The wedge salad was the best ever. The steak and lobster was a huge portion. We loved the bread pudding and butter creams. It was just magnificent. Can’t wait to go back.
Food was decent, atmosphere was fine, fireplace was on but our server was aloof and totally inattentive.
She took a long time to come and get our orders and once food was served (not by her) she vanished for up to 30 min...
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Mozambique. If you are looking for some quiet away from the music upstairs, the dining room/bar area on the first floor is quiet and romantic. The service was attentive and the bartender mixed up a specialty coffee drink for us after dinner that was delicious (and strong). I'd highly recommend dining here and am anxious to come back on our next trip through or to Laguna Beach. One of the best mahi mahi meals I have ever had and it was an overall very enjoyable evening.
Food is excellent and view is even better
Made specific note that we were celebrating an anniversary and nothing special was presented. Not even a “Happy Anniversary.”
Steam was well cooked, but poor in flavor. Did not present the value and taste I would expect with the price.
I have been coming here for years and never had a bad time. I have talk to many people who have given a mixed reviews but always been an advocate. This will be my last time. It was my birthday and I seriously cried. I’ve never been made to feel less welcome. Our food was under done and cold and requests for no onions were ignored on one dish, so people were eating while others were waiting for their feet. There was a large party in the next room and everyone was preoccupied with helping them. They never acknowledge my birthday, we had to beg for water, napkins and utensils. I could’ve gone anywhere for my birthday and chose here, I really want a do over and will be back.
We love the happy hour menu. We enjoyed the Caesar salad - so light and fresh. Also, the pasta is very good. We normally get other things but this was a refreshing change. Everything is good here!
I wish I could give this place 6 stars. Food was extraordinary, staff made you feel like family and the. Add a killer live band and stunning rooftop bar - you cannot beat it. Did I mention that the food is amazing?
Good, if overpriced, food. Excellent service. Upon entering the restaurant, even if you're headed upstairs to the rooftop deck, you're hit with an off-putting, tired bar smell.
Food, wine, entertainment, and service was great. Awesome experience.
I have been going to Mozambique for 10+ years...dining upstairs and standard dining room. This last time, we ate dinner in the Durbin Room...our second time (first time last year was great). Our server was wonderful and the food was good. Our bill was around $300.
Unfortunately, we were seated by the fireplace. We had to ask to have the piano singer turn down volume so we could hear each other, which they did. Then, at 10:00 a 3 piece band started right next to us. Great music, but not for this small room. It was extremely loud...so much so, we moved outside to finish our meal. The manager, Simon, was dismissive and the owner, Ivan, didn't seem to care. It would have been nice for them to tell us prior that loud music would be starting at 10:00. We would have then sat somewhere else and not had this problem. The fact that the manager and owner don't understand that customer keeps them in business is disappointing and we won't be back.
My suggestion, if you want a nice, quiet meal...go elsewhere or be sure you are finished well before 10:00.
Such a disappointment for our first (and last) visit to Mozambique. The only thing we enjoyed were our cocktails. We were seated in the back part of the restaurant where there was only one other couple...at 6:30 on a Saturday night. The room was awkwardly empty, and not lively at all. The couple seated next us decided they wanted to Face-Time, with their speaker on high. This went on for about 5 minutes- so rude. Our server was not at all knowledgable about the menu, didn't know the market price for the lobster and couldn't answer our simple questions about the oysters....which were terrible and a total rip off. The lobster was totally lacking in flavor also. At the end of our meal we tried a few times to get our servers attention so we could get our bill - but instead of giving us eye contact, she just kept walking past us. Maybe the rooftop experience is different, but honestly we were so turned off by our dining experience that night that we will not be returning to find out.
Fun place ..... great music
Great food and wonderful setting.
Love this place. Tonight was our second visit this weekend. Friday night we celebrated my birthday. Had a wonderful couples dinner on the second floor. The Peri Peri Shrimp and Peri Peri Chicken we're fabulous. Great wine list. Try the wines from South Africa they are excellent. After dinner enjoyed a local group play at the bar. Later at 10 p.m. on the ground level we enjoyed a Motown/ Soul artist. At both bars people were enjoying the entertainment. Came back on Sunday at 5 p.m. to enjoy dinner and sunset on the roof top. Again great dinner. I loved the Mozambique Penne, my husband loved his mahi mahi. There was a reggae band playing on the second level...just perfect both nights!
We love coming here, especially during happy hour! We had the calamari with two sauces and this time we both had the asparagus & veggie pasta with cheese. Everything was delicious.
Food and ambiance was amazing. We had a great meal with great jazz music.
Mozambique was recommended by a friend and it did not disappoint. Had lunch from the rooftop patio where you could enjoy the warm weather and a panoramic view of the Pacific. A couple of us had the beef tenderloin sandwich with a spicy house sauce. It was very good and a nice change of pace from the typical CA cuisine. The seafood sampler with peri peri sauce was our appetizer...could have been an entrée. We visited on a weekday where the patio was half full allowing for a very leisurely lunch.
We made reservations to celebrate our anniversary. Peri Peri Pops were excellent, I had Veg. curry which was delicious, great veggie dish. Our waiter, Greg was fantastic, he made our dinner so enjoyable a true professional. We shall be back.
There are occurrences that cannot be controlled, like losing power to the restaurant. However, the staff did not make any effort to help frustrated diners. We had to use our phones to light our plates in order to see our food. There were 6 of us and 3 of the meals were not prepared properly. When we told our waitress of the problem she informed us that we should just be grateful that we got our food. We have dined here multiple times in the past and have always had a great experience. Very disappointed, especially as we were there to celebrate a birthday.
We love this place! Their happy hour menu is awesome! The Caesar salad is fresh and light. And any of the skewers are great. We’ll definitely be back.
