A consistently great kitchen makes for an excellent dining experience.
Delightful restaurant in downtown Sarasota, warm greeting by receptionist and seated at a table “reserved” for us. Lovely bistro atmosphere, reminiscent of New York City, with outside seating available. Our server quickly arrived , and we enjoyed a fine wine from their list, reasonably priced. For starter we enjoyed a scrumptious ceviche , generous portion , with warm bread crisps. Yum. Our entreea were beautifully plated and prepared. I recommend the Diver Scallops. Definitely will return to this local find.
Great food, great service and a good wine list. You can’t go wrong dining here!
My friends had never been to Mosaic, and it had been years since I had been there. We were some of the first customers at 6pm on a Sunday night, so the restaurant was very quiet. We thought the food was very good, but over priced. The service was friendly, but far from first rate: No ice for the wine bucket until we asked twice. Removed the knives with the appetizer course and did not replace them until we asked two different people. Servers, hostess and bus staff were very visible, but rather oblivious to our raising of hands and waving to get their attention. Not sure whether I would be willing to give it another try.
Could have been a Quiet pleasant room. Were seated at a table where passers by would literally stop at the window a foot from our table and just stare in at us. Food was fine. Somehow didn’t see on OpenTable that it is beer and wine only so that disappointed a few in our party.
Our party of 4 had marvelous meals at Mozaic. Particularly outstanding was the Chateaubriand and the rabbit stew. Unfortunately the service was not up to par. They were quite busy on Easter Sunday, even early in the evening. But after a leisurely dinner, our waiter first made a mistake on our bill and then failed to correct it until I went to the hostess. We waited at least 40 minutes to pay our bill. I mentioned this to the hostess and she said they were short staffed. However we watched our waiter make a number of trips to another table without addressing our issue.
This was our first time eating at this restaurant. We were very happy with the service and the food was really great!!
Been dinning there for yrs
New goat cheese skillet was a cooler evening treat. Jeff always helps us pair wines to perfection. Art of Service achieved at a high level here. Entrees were flavorful without heavy salt (yay!), and the fresh warm bread is such a wonderful start. Ash and crew always have us looking forward to our next visit.
Fabulous service! Friendly and helpful!
The elk chop and quail were outstanding . Amazing flavors and beautifully presented!
Delicious crab cake and butter lettuce salad.
A very good experience .
Would definitely revisit when next in Sarasota!
Although our dinners were very good, we won’t go back. Restaurant was gloomy and empty and looked like it needed a good scrubbing and fresh coat of paint. Hostess was rude and grumpy. Since there are so many great places to eat in Sarasota, a restaurant needs more than just good food, and Mozaic just doesn’t have it. Very disappointing and won’t return.
Delicious lobster bisque and thick, crispy crab cakes. Nice yoghurt sauce for lamb chops. Warm, gooey chocolate cake for dessert. Sweet and friendly waitress.
One of the best in Sarasota! Our food was amazing, beyond delicious! The staff was excellent! A real treat!
Mozaic deftly combines fine imaginative cuisine with warm, friendly service in an artsy setting. It makes an ideal spot for dining before theatre or opera. For us it was the discovery of the Winter season!
Everything was very good: food, service, selections. We will definitely be back again.
Really enjoyed my return to Mosaic after having not been for a year. Everything was delicious and the service was excellent. However, it did become a little distracting that the staff gathered at the bar towards the end of the evening chatting loudly and watching videos on their phones. When we were asked about dessert, we felt we had overstayed our welcome.
Cioppino was better than luke warm but not piping hot as it should have been. Broth was too thick and not flavorful. Our friends’ dinners were also just so-so. Not the greatest for the price. We won’t be returning.
Loved loved the Ahi Tuna entree. Layers of flavors. The whole table was jealous. Service was good and wines by the glass very reasonable.
Second time to this restaurant in 3 weeks. Love the food. The wine list is ok and not over the top. Our meal this night was good but the service was really slow. I don't know if the server was giving us more time on purpose or if it was just slow. No one seemed to apologize and we had a good experience but it was a little strange.
The food was okay, the ambiance was okay, but the waiter, Sammy, was outstanding. Probably won't go back, though.
Outstanding poke appetizer
Haven’t been to this restaurant for awhile. We always loved the food but service was spotty. On this occasion when we arrived our table was not ready so we took a seat at tha bar. Wine list by the glass is adequate but no bartender. After about 10 minutes the hostess came over and poured us a glass of wine. Thoughts of time gone by flashed in our heads. Same old service? After another 10 minutes we were seated. Restaurant was busy so no server for about 10 minutes but we had our glasses of wine. Waiter came over and from then on service was great. Timing of food was good and the food was excellent. Mussels for appetizer, veg, salmon for entree were all flavorful and perfectly cooked. Maybe the old ways are the old ways. We will be back to see.
Chef Ash Tucker never fails to astonish. As an app, my husband had the tuna poke which was a delightful blend of flavors. Nearly licked the plate. I had a duck confit flatbread that was out of this world flavorful. I did leave some to take home because I feared I would not have room for the entree. We both had to have the Australian rack of lamb. Nice, thick chops with a wonderful coarse mustard seed coating. Perfectly cooked. There was no way we couldn't pick them up and chew them to the bone. Yum, yum. The server, Jeffrey, is a treasure. Always pleasant and efficient, working to make your dining experience a real joy.
Food, when finally served was very good but service was terrible. Reservation was for 6:45 but not seated till 7:00. Waiter was pleasant but not experienced and appeared hesitant. Dinner took forever and kitchen seemed overwhelmed. No hostess. Manager badly dressed and frantically trying to help serve.
Skirt steak was tough and lacked flavor. Very disappointing. Coffee was weak.
Soup was very good.
Expensive for what we got. Veggie side dish portion, very small.
We ordered two of the specials: Korean pork belly and rainbow trout. The pork belly was so tough as to be inedible; the trout was very bland. This restaurant makes big claims for the inventiveness and excellence of the food. It was a total disappointment. In addition, the service was slipshod--no napkins until we asked for them, no bread ever served, second glass of a DIFFERENT wine poured directly into the used glass.
Wonderful atmosphere and lively without being loud. Great service, the food was divine - 1 diver scallops and 3 duck breast. Good wine list. I would go again in a heartbeat.
My companion and I both enjoyed our pre-Opera dinner at Mozaic. We ordered the Confit of Duck with Gnocchi, which was very good. Neither one of us had room for an appetizer or dessert.
Service was warm and friendly and quite excellent. I did note that we both enjoyed our sweet roll and butter, but would have wished that another had been offered when the first one was eaten... doubt I could have eaten two, but restaurants should replenish water and offer more bread, particularly when there was no bread basket.
Nice restaurant, good food and great staff
This was our first time to this restaurant. We have passed it several times. The location is great, food was outstanding and service was good. We did have to look for our server a few times but overall it was good. When asked about the menu, we noticed that the server did the "upsell" and only went to the most expensive items.
The person presenting the food didn't seem like he worked at the restaurant. That was a little strange as he did not have on an apron or "uniform" of the servers. He was in "street clothes".
Anyhow, good experience. We will go back, soon.
We really enjoy Mosaic on most every visit; however, this last time found us frustrated with the Hostess and not patient enough to wait over 15 minutes for 4 scoops of ice cream.
Cold food very slow service. Had ask for knive pepper bread. Would not go back
Very nice small restaurant using fresh ingredients. Very hospitable. Great poke appetizer.
The posted walnuts were not included in the arugula salad—“must have forgotten them” was explanation and not rectified. The complimentary truffles that others received with their check were not given to us.
Excellent presentation. Food was well prepared. There are not large portions but enough to satisfy.
I like Mozaic a lot. I brought a pal in who’s visiting from NY, and he was impressed. The service was off, which is unusual, but we had a server unknown to me, and she might have been new.
We return to Mozaic every winter- never disappointed. Menu and presentation first rate. See you next year
We came on a bad night, and the staff did nothing to make it better. We arrived at 7 on Wednesday night, ordered, and waited for our appetizers. About 45 minutes later, we flagged down our waiter and told him that if we didn't have anything to eat in five minutes, we were leaving. He brought us our appetizers a few minutes later, apologizing and telling us that the kitchen was short-staffed that night, and he had to help prepare out appetizers in order to bring them out at all. We ate them, and waited again. About fifteen minutes later the waiter came back and told us that one of the items we had ordered was unavailable. Since the evening had already been ruined, we left.
Had the hostess told us when we arrived that the kitchen was short-staffed and there would be an hour and a half wait for our meals, we would have left with no hard feelings. Instead, they put us through an ordeal that spoiled our evening, knowing full well that they could not provide adequate service. To what end? So that we could have a terrible time and never come back?
A good restaurant should be welcoming and make its customers feel cared for. When reading the positive reviews for this restaurant, keep in mind that while you may be very satisfied if you arrive on a night when everything is going well, that Mozaic is so poorly managed that if everything isn't going well, your evening is as likely to be ruined as ours was.
