We came on a bad night, and the staff did nothing to make it better. We arrived at 7 on Wednesday night, ordered, and waited for our appetizers. About 45 minutes later, we flagged down our waiter and told him that if we didn't have anything to eat in five minutes, we were leaving. He brought us our appetizers a few minutes later, apologizing and telling us that the kitchen was short-staffed that night, and he had to help prepare out appetizers in order to bring them out at all. We ate them, and waited again. About fifteen minutes later the waiter came back and told us that one of the items we had ordered was unavailable. Since the evening had already been ruined, we left.

Had the hostess told us when we arrived that the kitchen was short-staffed and there would be an hour and a half wait for our meals, we would have left with no hard feelings. Instead, they put us through an ordeal that spoiled our evening, knowing full well that they could not provide adequate service. To what end? So that we could have a terrible time and never come back?

A good restaurant should be welcoming and make its customers feel cared for. When reading the positive reviews for this restaurant, keep in mind that while you may be very satisfied if you arrive on a night when everything is going well, that Mozaic is so poorly managed that if everything isn't going well, your evening is as likely to be ruined as ours was.

I’ve eaten at Mozaic twice within the last month. The food is delicious and offers many options from light bites to more substantial selections. There is something to suit every taste.
It’s located near the Sarasota Opera House and Florida Studio Theatre and is convenient if you’re attending one of them. However, on my last visit we had informed our server that we were gping to the opera. At the end of the meal, we ordered dessert a half hour before we needed to leave. We asked a couple of times and were told it would be right out, but we ended up having to eat it in a few quick bites while paying the bill with the other hand. We should have been told there wasn’t enough time for dessert.
Still, I will go back, just be more mindful of the time myself.

Never go on a Saturday night...noisy, service rushed, prices high. We went earlier on a Tuesday night and it was so much better. Better food and wonderful service. Loved it the first night on a week night...avoid Saturday nights.

A truly memorable experience. Quiet, tables well-spaced restaurant. Food was perfectly prepared. Service was low key and efficient. Wish it were located near our home. We'd be there frequently.

After 1 hour and 20 minutes we had to leave. They gave us the appetizer but our entree never showed up. Then I get one of these “3 more minutes” from the server, I think it must have been her first day. Owner asked what the problem was, clueless, the upstairs table did not receive food or water, it is a dead zone. Don’t go up the stairs!!!
Went to Classico down the street for a totally different type of meal. It was good and came in a timely manner.
To many choices to ever go back to Mozaic. To bad, probably not around for long.

In past years I’ve considered Mozaic’s the most exciting cuisine in Sarasota. This time the butternut squash soup and the flourless chocolate cake were fantastic, but the cioppino, while fine, was unexciting and in fact a bit dull.

A real gem in downtown Sarasota. Not only is the food interesting, carefully prepared and delicious, but it is plated and served with artistry. The service was excellent - attentive but not in-your-face, and very accommodating of dietary requirements. Just a really nice evening out - now on our faves list.

Valentines dinner. Waitress was very nice, we were surprised that they did not have a full bar. That got things off to a bad start since I’m not a wine drinker. Waitress said they also had beer. She did know much about what types they had. I settled on a bottled beer I never heard of It was better than all the IPA offerings they had.
The food came really quick after a long wait for my beer and wife’s sparkling wine. Food was good. Surf and turf presentation was nice, but skimpy. My Duck pasta was tasty and filling. Overall, food and wine offerings were overpriced and were not comparable to similar priced restaurants in the area with the Five Star ratings

This is my favorite restaurant in Sarasota. Everyone is always friendly. The service was wonderful - thanks Jeff!!! The food is always great. Have the crab cakes...the tomato bacon jam that comes with them is so good. And the And these are the small plates!

Excellent food wirh good variety of complentary tastes and flavors on the plate. Often, an entree is pretty bare, but here the chef has curated the entree with appropriate and tasty sides. Even better than the last chef here who we thought was the best in town. We were wow'd.
