Mozaic Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
I have been a repeat customer many years....this visit was bad. Three people, three bad entrees. One diner had a filet, first one was full of gristle, sent back to kitchen, second filet full of gristle and practically raw. The other two diners had the hogfish special....served lukewarm, very small and mine was overcooked. The side vegetable had to be sent back, undercooked and braised as described on the menu. We spoke to the manager about an adjustment on the check....he seemed very lackadaisical but did deduct a round of wine and gave us a small gift certificate, for 3 people, to use on a future visit. I felt the entrees should have been removed from check, we were more than happy to pay for our wine. On top of the problems, both diners who had the hog fish were slightly nauseated the next day. Unacceptable for this restaurant.
Bad food. The fish of the day was not fresh nor tasty. Decided to returned back. No follow up from manager about it, just ignore the issue. Two other tables next to us also have issues with other food. Not a good night. Felt like we wasted an evening in this restaurant . This was our third visit . We used to enjoy the food there, but we found out they change the chief.
We dined with our freinds early on a Saturday so there was not a lot of business yet. Our server was very attentive but not overbearing. The food was excellent-my Cioppino (off the daily specials menu) was full of a variety of fresh shellfish and fish and had a delicious light tomato broth that I had to stop myself from picking up the bowl and slurping it up. My husband' s Ahi Tuna was equally delicious and plentiful as was the Pad Thai. The only negative we encountered was the portion size of the short ribs was quite small. A very nice dining experience overall. We definitely will return.
This was our first visit back to Mozaic for this winter season, and it was as good as I recalled. Each one of our mains was wonderful. I can't help commenting on my side, which was a grain, tiny veggies (broccoli / cauliflower / wild mushrooms / cheese). Our friend's accompaniment had chunks of lobster. Whee! We had no room for dessert as who wanted to leave anything on the plate.
Had 8:30 pm dinner reservations for NYEve..got seated at 8:50...Service was VERY slow. Took over 45 minutes to ask if we wanted any wine, we said yes, he came back and set an opened bottle of champagne on table, left and we never got any wine. At 11:30 , we were just getting dessert, so we took it to go, never got any more champagne, altho it was advertised as a second bottle.....While it was nice to enjoy a very leisurely meal, the wait service was basically non existent.
We were here for their special new year's eve menu and it was terrific. Chef Ash Tucker outdid himself with his artfully presented but very tasty dishes. Three of our friends are not very adventurous eaters, but they were enticed to go out of their comfort zone and loved it. Trust the chef and you will not be disappointed.
This was not a good experience. Despite a fantastic waiter who did everything he could to salvage our meal, we were extremely dissatisfied. Upon arriving we discovery a price fix menu on the table that was mostly seafood. My wife DOES NOT eat seafood. This special menu was not posted on the Open Table web site as were many other new Years Eve menus. Diners like my wife or vegans simply could not eat most of the items on the menu. The waiter did everything he could to satisfy us but there were limits. The food ( what we ate ) was fair...really nothing exceptional. This was a very unhappy experience that was totally unnecessary and was such a disappointment that we will not return to Mosaic.
The food was very good. The squash soup was excellent, the freshness of veggie spring rolls also excellent both entrees the Tuna and the Vegan Pad Thai very good. The service was also good.
I'd have scored this dinner higher but something about the ambiance didn't resonate. The ambiance felt rather quiet and formal. The food is plated very nicely but still the atmosphere just makes it hard to relax and enjoy a great meal which is what I expected from the menu a more upbeat and relaxed atmosphere. Nonetheless we'll be back for sure the food is well worth the trip.
Dining there this month, Mozaic lived up to our expectations. Not always the case. The menu has often promised a more interesting experience than the kitchen was able to consistently produce. This time some of the dishes we tried were outstanding (specifically the duck and seafood), and nothing we chose did we regret. This was our first time there since the new chef arrived. Maybe that is the difference.
Chef Ash Tucker has really improved the overall food quality at Mozaic following the loss of the former chef. Without question, the food and service at Mozaic rate as among the best in all of Sarasota. Another plus is the well selected and very well priced wine list, also a treat in a town with a paucity of innovative wine lists. Do yourself a favor and make a reservation - it's well worth it.
Mozaic is one of our favorite Sarasota restaurants, and this visit did not disappoint! The cuisine is relatively straightforwad but remarkably tasteful and competently prepared and presented. The chef doesn't rely on sauces and seasoning to artificially amp up (or hide) the natural taste, as so many local restaurants do. And the ambiance is relatively quiet and subdued - a rarity in Sarasota. We'll certainly be back!
First, but certainly not the last visit to this wonderful restaurant. The owner greeted us warmly at the door. We were immediately seated. Server and others were constantly attentive. Food was unique, well prepared, plated beautifully, but most of all, absolutely delicious. We did not go home hungry! We can’t wait to visit again. I have recommended this MoZaic to all my friends and neighbors. A true gem!!
Noticed a drop in food quality from visit 3 months ago. Escargot was not presented well at all with 4 crostini and the snails together in a small dish. Need to buy plates specifically to serve them and serve them very hot. The fish special was to be grilled, almost seemed to be poached, not much in quantity. Risotto unremarkable. Spring rolls and crab cakes over-spiced.
Service was good but not too pleasant to be near the greeters who should have been more engaged rather than chatting among themselves. Please fix.
Thanksgiving dinner, reservation for nine. Table wasn’t ready, hostess had an attitude when we objected to them trying to squeeze some tables together in the downstairs dining room. Ultimately got a table upstairs. Appetizers were excellent. Seven of nine got the turkey special. Small portions, most plates had fat and grizzle, very little meat. EVERYTHING was cold. The manager looked confused and offered to reheat our plates in the microwave. Um, no. How about some fresh hot plates. Then he said he would bring some hot sides. Not sure how that fixes the cold turkey and gravy. When the sides arrived they were lukewarm at best. Two of us had the rack of lamb, which had zero flavor and the lollipops were mostly fat. Plates were slightly warmer than the turkey. We were all clearly disappointed and upset and yet it still took 20 minutes to get the check. Instead of comping the cold entrees or the wine, they took 10 percent off the bills. And speaking of wine, two of us paid $52 for four glasses of house. And a bottle of Bella Sera Pinot Grigio that costs $9.99 at total wine... $56. Awful experience on what was supposed to be a nice holiday meal. Had been there before but now would never recommend in a million years.
Outstanding food ... had the red deer osso buck and the crab cakes.
Crab cakes served with buerre Blanc with jam on side. Out of this world.
Both were terrific along with homemade rolls.
Service cud be a little better. Our server asked if we wanted more bread. We answered yes n had to flag down another server to get it .
Owners were excellent.. our best meal while in Sarasota.
