Moxie the Restaurant - Cleveland Ratings and Reviews
Excellent food and service. My husband got the mashed potatoes and filet and it was excellent. I got the fish special that night over risotto. Excellent dishes, would go back again. It's worth every penny. They also serve bread with their house bean dip with oil (hummus) and it was so good we had to take some home.
Lovely Birthday dinner with my husband and daughter. Tuesday evening on a winter night, the restaurant was quiet, which we had hoped for. The service was very attentive without being obtrusive. The menu included a selection of specialty cheeses as an appetizer. This was a good choice as all three of us could share the appetizer and we sampled some cheeses that we never had before. As a main course did I opt for the tuna, which was a generous portion and accompanied by a sticky rice side and spicy wasabi. Very delicious and nicely presented. My daughter had the burger which she loved, but was unable to finish due to its size, good value. The cocktails to start with were nice and the entire evening meal was flawless with really great service. We're looking forward to return soon.
Reservation was easy via Open Table. The restaurant was not very busy, but we had to wait for almost an hour for our orders. My wife's scallops were over done and the plating was unimaginative. My meal, walleye, was very good plated well.
We live about 5 - 10 minutes from the restaurant so it's quite convenient. However, the food and liquor are pricy.
This was my wife's birthday and we have experienced Moxie's wonderful experience and environment a few times in the past. Ryan our server was very good. Unfortunately it was an off night for the food. Calamari was okay at best and our entrees were less than expected. Unfortunate but my duck dish was unexpectedly tough and was removed from the bill without request. Never experienced chewy duck breast before especially when it was confit. Have to think long and hard about returning since there are so many other options in the city. Considering that this was my wife's 50th birthday celebration dinner, we were less than impressed. Sorry.
I used to go to Moxie a couple times a month, for years. Got away from going for no particular reason. Friends recently came to town and I needed a central meeting place and chose this restaurant. Really glad I did. The service was excellent, the menu diverse enough to accommodate our table, and all selections excellent. We will be coming back...soon.
Not bad, but probably won't go back. Calamari appetizer was excellent, as was the bread and hummus served with the meal (though we had to ask for it a couple times before our server finally brought it). Our server was a little too absent for my liking - wish he had checked in with us a few more times. My wife and I both ordered lamb - I had the lamb shank and she had the lamb filet. They were so-so - they both tasted fine but didn't really stand out. The cocktails and wine were very good. Desert was excellent - went with the s'mores bomb and a chocolate cookie. Including one drink for each of us, it cost about $150 - not really worth going back for just an "okay" experience.
Moxie has always been a good restaurant. We just had a terrible visit the last time we were there. The host/hostess did not seat properly and instead of alternating sections, he/she seated 1 section at a time, so the servers got slammed all at one time. We waited an hour for our food. No server was truly committed to us. Our server even said he felt terrible. No one asked if we wanted another drink, until we were finished with our meal - I would have had one with my meal. The manager came by as well and comped us for certain items, however I will not be rushing back. We wanted to go for a quick bite and it was just a terrible experience.
Food was good. We went there since it was restaurant week. The restaurant week menu was very limited. My husband got it and I did not. My entrée was delicious, salmon with a spatzle. Restaurant was way too noisy. Why even play music when you can't hear it. Wine by the glass too limited and too expensive, e.g. 2 choices for pinot noir one at $20 and one at $13. Really? And service was average. Servers were very apologetic. I wouldn't go back.
Moxie was my favorite restaurant! Unfortunately, the service is no longer the word that can be affiliated with Moxie. I am extremely upset it since Moxie was always the place where you can have a great food paired with profesoonal service, not the case anymore. The norm now is the waiter/waitress who is not trained and does not care ....so how can you continue to be loyal when there is no reciprocation ?!
Moxie was very accommodating to our business dinner, especially given that a few of us arrived a half an hour late. Service was outstanding. Food was great. Menu has a lot of choices while remaining distinctive and fresh. My out of town colleagues really liked the place too.
