Mot Hai Ba Vietnamese Cuisine
The menu changes regularly and features seasonal dishes as well as Chef Peja Krstic's imaginative specials. Dinner Only. Cozy front room and a lovely patio. Cocktails and full bar.
This place is a magical, intimate spot perfect for date night. The grilled duck hearts have a bit of smoke, a bit of chew and perfect amount of flavor while the blue crab salad has a generous amount of acid, an occasional super hot spice from the Thai chili but then soothes all with the flavor and crunch of cucumber. I highly recommend this place, and encourage you to try off the beaten path menu items like the duck hearts and lamb neck.
Delicious food inspired by Vietnam. Key word is inspired! Small place so expect to be seated at the same table with other parties but it’s a hole in the wall place that is worth a visit. Service was great!
This is a favorite for special occasions. I have only had a delightful time at Mot Hai Ba - the food and service is unsurpassed. Everyone is friendly, and the menu is always exciting. My husband and I (as well as our friends) are delighted with this charming restaurant. Dallas is lucky to have it.
Excellent food. Good value .
Food was good but the tables were tiny and you had to share the table with other parties. It was like eating at bar. This place is way too small for a restaurant, take out at best. The owner needs to reconsider moving as this totally unacceptable space to dine. Get a bigger place that can at least fit a couple tables! Very disappointed
Delicious, unique dishes and cocktails. One of my favorite dining experiences in Dallas if not the top. Had the duck heart salad appetizer, lamb neck, sticky rice with pork and caviar, and garlic noodles. Can't wait to go back!
I love the feel and atmosphere of this place – it was beautifully designed and it's so fun to share a table with other guests! We love everything we ordered! I definitely would love to visit again to try more dishes. Our waitress was really kind and the food came out very timely. Order the garlic noodles...actually, order two servings! They are yummy and you WILL want more!
Dinner was amazing! It’s definately one of our favorite restaurants in Dallas! Garlic Noodles, Imperial Rolls, Steamed Bun, Flounder...all are must try’s when you go!
Always great food. High quality. Pricey. Dinner for 4 with drinks $300
Food or cocktails, never had anything I didn’t like or love here. Nice folks too.
I was disappointed that the food was not as good as the reviews led me to expect. The restaurant is a small, atmospheric dining room that is not hospitable to any but very able bodied people who are on the small size. The food is interesting, but the flavors not distinctive enough.
One of the best meals we’ve had in a long time. Delicious food, great service, perfect ambiance. We can’t wait to go back!
One of my favorite restaurants in Dallas. We come here at least once a month and have made it a point to always order the specials, and of course, the garlic noodles. I think the chef should be nominated for a James Beard and if Michelin ever comes to Dallas they should add Mot Hai Ba to the list.
One of Dallas's best - so fresh, so tasty. A great neighborhood (and city!) spot.
One of the best, and most consistent dining experiences that never fail to exceed my expectations.
Peja offers a delicious menu and the service is always fantastic.
The food was amazing! We enjoyed all that we ordered and look forward to returning. We had a female server, she lead us through the menu and was perfectly attentive to our table. I have already recommended the restaurant to several of my friends - a must!
Thank you
Amazing experience! No1 restaurant in the city, no wonder
Wonderful expression of flavours and dishes bigger than the cozy dining area can handle, but lets you feel like you discovered something big and exciting in small places. Attentive staff and eclectic inspired cocktails with extensive French grapes collection to pair with your amazing dinner.
Thoughtful, non-traditional take on Viet-Namese food. Modest but warm interior staffed by a very competent crew both front and back of house. The food is creative but not fussy or pretentious. It is, however, seriously delicious. Every dish was well balanced and expertly seasoned. The wine list is all French and replete with many options that drink well above their price point. The cocktail list is short, but focused and well-executed. On the whole, the dining experience was memorable and reasonably priced. This little restaurant swings well above its weight class and I would strongly recommend it.
So glad I finally made it to this place! I love the petite dining room, it creates a very intimate environment that compliments the love the kitchen is putting into every dish.
We love the food here for example, there were 3 tables for two in a tight line when we were there. One neighboring table of patrons didn’t moderate their voices, which was obnoxious. Our other neighbors didn’t need to whisper to be less distracting, and were very nice. Service was excellent. I am always impressed by the quality & freshness of their ingredients. My flounder was great. The starter rice dish was great. My husband didn’t care much for his eggplant curry, but has loved other selections.
I met my mother in law here for dinner and had a wonderful time! Everything was delicious and presented beautifully.
Emilio was a great server!
We had an incredible time. The food was absolutely phenomenal! The service and atmosphere was great!
Delicious and unique.
The restaurant looks unassuming but charming from the street. Service is top notch from host to server to the chef delivering dishes to the table himself. Very unique feel inside from decor to music. Everything we tried was so delicious and also beautiful on the plate. Will definitely be back despite being located a long way from home!
The starters were excellent. The bao was outstanding. The chicken pho broth was perfect, but the dark meat was disappointing. I can’t recall the last time I had chicken pho with dark meat (maybe never?). The shaking beef was very good, but a little undercooked for our taste (we prefer medium). The garlic noodles were very oily, as were the mixed vegetables. I would have expected steamed vegetables instead of stir fried, but my fault for not asking. The service was impeccable and the wine list was surprisingly good. If I’m in Lakewood for dinner again I might give it another shot, but would get something different. Worth another chance.
One of my favorite restaurants in the city. Food and service are always on point.
Best restaurant experience in the last year. Wife liked it more than Petra. I thought both were terrific.
Food is delicious! Seating is terribly uncomfortable. No back support and is slightly awkward as you share with strangers. If you can get over back pain long enough to enjoy the delicious food then totally worth it. Otherwise, order to go and enjoy in the comforts of your own home. Truly though I love the food.
Came here after hearing all my friends rave about it and it did not disappoint. Went with all the classics and the garlic noodes more than lived up to the expecation. I could have probably just had a meal of those. We also go the Imperial Rolls and the Ban Bao as appetizers which were great and the Shaking Beef as an entree which was delicous (especially the tomato salad on the side). We went with donuts and the cold brew ice cream as dessert which was a great nightcap. Our dining neighbors also let us try their flounder which I will definitely be ordering the next time I return.
Everything was delicious and I would eat them again, my only complaint is the Shaking Beef was a tad overpiced for the amount of food we got.
Service was exceptional (waitstaff was very friendly and helpful with recs).
The food was quite good and our server was friendly and helpful. The downside is the size of the restaurant and how close together the seats are. Be prepared to get cozy with your neighbor. It was also quite awkward to be seated in the middle of the table for six. A very lovely woman got up from her meal so I could get to my seat. Fortunately when we were leaving, a spot next to me was open so I could scoot out before the next diners were seated. Really wish the chairs had backs too. Maybe we’ll just order our food to go in the future?
We sat across from each other and tried the dick hearts, banana flower salad and the roasted halibut. Part of the experience is sitting next to other couples at the same table. We learned one guy has a thing for dolphins but not whales (good stuff).
Very intimate with excellent food - a Dallas treasure. I highly recommend!
Fantastic meal at Mot Hai Ba. Very creative Vietnamese cuisine. We can't wait to try more on the menu. Limited seating and you are seated with other parties at tables of 6 but it all works. Excellent and knowledgeable service. Can't wait to go back.
Mot Hai Ba quickly became my and my wife's favorite restaurant in Dallas. We have yet to try a dish we have not enjoyed. The atmosphere is fantastic. Tables are shared which makes for some excellent camaraderie with other guests while at the same time not making you feel forced to converse with strangers. I cannot say enough about the food. The fusion they have sought to accomplish is met in a way that causes both intrigue and satisfaction in the same bite. The outward appearance of the restaurant in no way readies you for the amazing experience within. Please give this place a try. You will not regret it.
It has really changed with the new ownership. We hadn’t been in few years since the new owner. I must say, it was very disappointing. It used to be one of the most unique Asian fare restaurant. It has now been Americanized. Everything was heavy on the sauce. The famous garlic noodle was dry and over cooked. MHB use to blow me away but now, not so much
My girls and I had a wonderful evening sharing several uniquely tasty dishes and drinks. The service was impeccable and humble. I love the community seating, it’s always fun to make friends with other guests enjoying the same menu! The chefs treated us like royalty and every plate was thoughtfully executed.
Favorite dishes:
Bahn Xeo
Bao
Collared green spring rolls with black truffle nuoc cham
Blue crab salad
Favorite drinks:
The first one listed on the menu.. I forget the name. It was a twist on a French 75.
This place is perfect for date night, ladies night, guys night, or a business dinner.
Mot Hai Ba has become one of our very favorite Dallas restaurants. Having been here four times in the last six months, the food and the service are consistently excellent.
We were there for a BD celebration and our party of six included some serious foodies--all of us were very pleased.
Overpriced for quality. Would not recommend this to friends/family
I knew this gem was going to be good but over exceeded my expectations. I went with my mother for her birthday we split a bottle of wine and got the rice cake appetizer with shrimp which was huge. Then the lamb neck which was even better. We skipped on desert which i am still regretting but will definitely save room for next time.
